actually got rid of omarchy because of all the bloat. i was testing it out because of all the people talking about how great it is. went back to cachyos i3 because it has everything i normally install anyway so i like being able to copy over my configs from my internal microsd and have a comfy desktop in seconds after first boot and be able to use my computer instead of spend all my time ricing it.

I am regularly amazed that we pretend folders are the right way to organise files. They’re entirely arbitrary. Every competent file system ignores them to its best ability. Why can’t I have a file in two folders? Why does one have to be a “reference”? Why can’t I filter for files that exist in 3 folders with X extension?

We’ve been played for absolute fools.

The problem with tags: discoverability is shit

Good part about Folders: god tier for discoverability and de-duplication

He's right though, and I've been saying that since forever: folders should just be the output of selected file tags.

Could it be any more retarded?

I’ve been running Linux Mint for over four years and was happy with it until the recent drama, especially the AI security scan fiasco. It really shook my trust in the maintainers.

I started looking for alternatives, but after testing hundreds of distros, none of them met my expectations for stability and reliability. I began to accept that my system would just break from time to time until I found a thread recommending Windows Seven as a rock-solid alternative.

After researching, it turns out this version is still surprisingly usable. It’s stable, reliable, and with extended updates plus a good firewall, security isn’t a major issue.

Has anyone else tried this? How did it go for you? Personally, I haven’t run into a single problem so far.

Sounds like you need help to recognize when you should feel remorse to stop your kleptomaniac / worse impulses.
>>
>>107686889

I do feel remorse when I get caught for getting caught but other than that I just use it to not get caught the next time. I am not kleptomanic, kleptomania is when you have an obsession to steal for the purpose of stealing. I don't like stealing, I don't do it unless I have to, but whenever I see an opportunity, I act on it. I do it calculatively meaning the skim has to remain undetected for as long as possible. I steal because I want money to spend on shit, and if there's something I like to do, it's spending.

The dopamine from buying new shit and having nice stuff is just too strong to ignore. I also grow and sell weed, because stealing doesn't produce enough alone. I also leave some taxes unpaid and put a lot of shit on expenses so I don't have to pay taxes on my side gig. I'm one mistake away from getting entirely nuked by a police investigation yet it seems like there is not a single deterrant. This way of life isn't easy or fun, but I never chose this myself.

why are so many programming "help" groups like this? like, somebody will specifically opt into helping people, and then get frustrated when they dont do exactly what they expect. it constantly feels like im testing everyone's patience whenever i ask for help and its even harder trying to just learn everything myself, especially considering all the weird semantic differences in both the language itself and guides.

like i can imagine a full script in my head but i wouldnt know how to translate it into the language im currently using. and on the offchance that i *do* get the help needed, usually its just "oh just use the blah function", so its not like i just Dont Know How To Code or anything i just dont know the shit thats specific to the engine, and its not like i can just look it up in a glossary or something because the words can be totally different from language to language, like how "object" in one language can be "entity" in another, and object in *that* language refers to an object in an array or something, so theres just a huge language gap that i cant really cross without the help of others, which sucks because working with others sucks

Were you around using computers at the time? The reason 8 moved to that interface was to copy smartphones and make computing "more accessible" but the problem is how far it deviated from how pcs were used at the time that users really complained about relearning basic things

I am currently in possession of a Dell Precision 5550 my school gave me and didn't ask for back; this happened 1.5-2 years ago so I forgot I even had it. I would like to use this as a personal laptop to replace my old desktop; however, the BIOS is locked, and it is running heavily restricted Windows, making it practically just a web browser.

I have already read a fair bit about how this is difficult but all info regarding actually unlocking it doesn't work--any advice? Is there a reliable way to do this without having to do anything to the BIOS chips? I am fairly technical but currently do not have access to the required tools for soldering/chip flashing. I do not have a USB-C flashdrive, but since I can't even open BIOS boot order due to admin lock, I doubt it would work.

Laptop model: Dell Precision 5550
Bios Version: 1.22.0
BIOS Mode: UEFI
CPU: i7-10750H
GPU: Quadro T2000 (Max-Q Design)
RAM: 32GiB

Should this be unfeasible/too painful, I am thinking of buying a ThinkPad P53 as an alternative.

I can provide more specifics if need be.

>(De)soldering SMDs on a laptop where making a single mistake would likely destroy it completely isn't a great risk to take when the laptop still has resale value. Buying a programmer and soldering gear is extra money that could just be put towards a P53 instead, which is a better laptop and is vastly more upgradable.

so basically you're a criminal , and you're trying to flip a laptop you stole.
>>
>>107688536
>isn't the password stored in the NVRAM/EC
Usually that's the same chip as the BIOS because of cost saving reasons. Stinkpads might be different depending on the revision.
Also I am writing this from a P53 right now. It came with a GPU fan where all the blades had shattered, and I had to buy a replacement heatsink assembly with both fans. The replacement fan also rattles and is close to dying. Replacing the fans, heatskin, or just applying thermal paste requires a full disassembly of the whole laptop and is a nightmare. Skip this one if you don't necessarily need the touchpad buttons
