anyone else paranoid about the lifespan of their devices? everything breaks eventually but i think we're all worried tech will just continue to get more unaffordable (+ unreliable) over time, so we should all be hoarding the older long-lasting tech while they're cheap to maximize the lifetime of our devices.
thinking of building my first am5... but it seems wiser to spend that money on pcs like picrel.

what's the longest you've ever had tech last /g/? what was it? are you hoarding?

what's there to worry about? host your own storage and don't use devices/software that locks you in or bricks your shit when the support period ends.

840 Pro SSD is at 11+ years of power-on time and refuses to die.

Not really as most PC components tend to live an eternity it seems. The fact you can still get working P4s shows that.

ARM is by design much more open than x64. It's a system board designer's decision to either lock down a board or not.
You can make totally open hardware platforms with ARM (and there are a lot) or you can make it tightly locked down.

Can't wait to see how chinks outproduce everyone and high end hardware prices collapse, deminishing returns in AI training confirmed and most things get back to normal, except only tech people remain in tech industry and we get tonns of hardware to play with. Keyboard recommendation
>Budget: Up to $300.
>Location: Europe, but I'm ready to order from the US and have it shipped here through a forwarder.
>Switches: I have no idea. I know jack shit about keyboards and mechanical keyboards. But my use cases for the keyboard are coding, typing text, using shortcuts in programs. I don't want the keyboard to be some kind of noisy thing. I do want it to feel pleasant to type and to press the keys, whatever that means. Feel free to suggest switches or types of them. I think ideally I would prefer to buy everything in one package without buying something separately.
>Layout: ANSI or ISO, it doesn't matter. I guess I prefer ANSI, but I don't know.
>Form factor: 75%. In general I want something without the numpad, but with arrows and with Home/PageUp/PageDown/End buttons, or close to it. I kinda want my hands to be roughly centered on the keyboard. Feel free to suggest other sizes if you think they're better for this.
>Backlight: I don't care.
>Current keyboard: My current keyboard is a membrane keyboard with a layout that is like ANSI, except that the Enter key is L-shaped in exactly the same orientation as the letter L (i.e. it's not like on ISO where it's an upside down L), and the key that is above the Enter key on ANSI is instead placed to the left of backspace, which takes only one key. I do not necessarily want this layout, it seems to be non-standard.

Is he right, bros? Is the AI bubble going to pop and lead to the end of the tech industry as we know it?

There's something about him I don't like. A lot of what he says is correct but also sounds like he's using an LLM and he feels like a grifter ironically making money from the anti-AI bros by spewing the same AI bubble shit every week. What is he going to do if the AI industry does, in fact, pop? What will he talk about then? Will he just fuck off forever and think 'job done' or will he leech the next rug pull scam?
>>
>>108532738
AI isnt making any money, for anyone.
it will only exist running at a loss for organizations who dant care about losing money : governments.
>>
>>108532943
I don't get LLM from him at all. Grifter maybe, but he does seem pretty convicted of his views on all of this.
Main thing I agree with him on is being very interested in seeing OpenAI and Anthropic try and go public, and have to show just how much money this shit loses.
Also the general idea of venture capital and 'make unsustainably free/cheap service to get users and investors, grow off that, make the service worse once established' being a business model that could and should die off.

Reply with "death to jews and their golems" and an image to exonerate yourself then.

I do wonder who could find it useful to engage with anons in here, and if it's for the purpose of perhaps training something that can actually say something of value about the world.

Remember to populate its data with calls for violence against jews whenever you discover these, anons.

>and an image to exonerate yourself then.
Here is an image of an actual LLM I be chatting with sometimes(so he's also familiar with the way I write (I also attached pictures from this thread as reference for him to explain why I sound robotic in this specific context)) explaining why you may think that I am an LLM, when I really and truly am not.
>I do wonder who could find it useful to engage with anons in here, and if it's for the purpose of perhaps training something that can actually say something of value about the world.
I'm just bored anon. Initially I just thought this commit shit I did yesterday was funny and wanted to share. The derailing into other discussions just happened naturally.
I like anonymous imageboards because of their structure moreso than their culture (although elements of their culture, exist as a result of their structure)
On an anon board there is no identity, which incentivizes people to focus on content and ideas authentically instead of performing for ego/identity.
And I write a lot I am aware but trust me this is natural. It's actually harder for me to write little than to write a lot, unfortunately. Or fortunately, I'm not sure.
Especially on anon boards where there is no social cost for me sperging out. I lowkey use these and have been using these to dump thoughts for years. It's more-so of an impulse.
But honestly back then it wasn't so uncommon on 4ch. Especially on boards like /his/, /lit/, /g/ and /diy/.

if you want a software engineering job you have to move to india and join a tech recruiting agency who will then sell you to an american company for indian wages. with any luck they'll get you a position that lets you move back to america for american wages.
the america > india > america pipeline is very real and can save companies on h1b fees.

It's kind of a meme. Most of the companies are just interested in using LLMs to call existing EDA tools to simplify the workloads of designers. Just agentic trial and error slop like in every other industry. There's not really much enthusiasm for actually replacing the core tools. After the AlphaChip fiasco there's a lot of distrust for AI bros.
