Long story short all the tutorials of programmers i watched online, never liked what I saw. They all look dead inside, depressed, robotic face and speech completely lacking emotions. And they are content creators-programmers. I wonder what real people who sit at the screen write instructions all day look like. One needs to sacrifice having a fun charismatic personality to be a coder right ? *John Carmack looks all right though. A bit nerdy but doesn't radiate sadness.
>>107795287A lot of construction workers seem actually pretty happy around where I live, but maybe it depends on the country and area. Lotta people find construction quite satisfying since you are building actual tangible things every day with your own hands that will stand and be used by real people for many years. Money aside, the main drawback is the climate and risk of injury, but if you work at a temperate place that follows safety regulations and you take care of your body, you can minimize the physical long term damage a lot. Tbh I think the most bitter people I've met were either office workers, teachers or healthcare workers. Staying inside for a long time with people you don't like definitely fucks up people's brains. More so if you don't enjoy the work.My dad worked trades till 60 and he has always been mentally healthier than most techies past 35.

There were topics that were completely off limits with Dennis – mostly having to do with any form of personal intimacy. This was true for his Bell Labs colleagues, who speak of Dennis’ personal life as a kind of private zone where they do not tread, and true with his siblings also.Half the good programmers have shit like this in their background

I hope whoever designed usb a died a very miserable death. when can we kill this useless shit for good?
The design is fine. The blame for the shittiness of USB falls on The People(tm), for being retarded and not holding manufacturers accountable.
>>107800549Going to guess it was a marketing decision to lean heavily into it being a generic and universal port for everything. At the time it came out, most other connectors had specialized shapes so the back of a computer looked him a restroom toilets Star Wars. The promise of USB was that you'd simply have a bunch of identical ports that anything could plug into. Like most USB promises, it failed on accomplishing that one.
>>107800772That was usb B type and it was the worst one and broke the most, that's saying something too because none of the others broke. >>107800533They did nothing wrong other than adapt a retarded naming convention and make usb minishit to appeal to appleshit products that can't even fit a standard usb.

thoughts on fruit arrow?yeah yeah yeah zoomer this fake history that. I just want to talk about this aesthetic, particularly in software. I personally really like it. It feels lively, peaceful, and futuristic. After this came minimalism where UI was super flat, dull, and spaced out. Basically the opposite of the 3D gradient-heavy water vibes of fruit arrow.

A bit of a general question, but why is the tech market so "winner takes it all" like? It has not always been this way, back in the day (00s to early 10s) one social media, dating or messaging platform replaced the other within 2-3 years.Nowadays, even non community apps which are super easy to copy, are being enshittificated with no replacement popping up. I am talking about Komoot, Duolingo and the likes.I understand for stuff like Hyperscalers the CapEx is too high, so there will NEVER be a European AWS/GCP/Azure (or ChatGPT/Gemini). But how come even small fucking apps like that cannot be copied and improved?
>>107798385>doges the question entirely because he can't answer
>>107798268Um, because they emerged as the winners in their respective sectors, rather than their competitors, as the internet was developing? What point are you trying to make?

>try linux for the first time in 10 years>put linux mint 22.2 on USB key with rufus>boot>open GUI software manager from the start menu>write "steam" in the search bar, click on the install button>error message>try to uninstall a random software with "rightclick, uninstall" from the start menu (one of the libre office applications)>another error messageI eventually got steam working by using a flatpak, and I uninstalled successfully the same libre office app after rebooting. But both failed my tests on the first attempt. I noticed a lot of improvements since I tried linux 10 years ago but it's sad that it still feels like beta software nonetheless. And linux mint is supposed to be the most polished non-technical oriented user-friendly distro.

It's not serious. It's why Linux has basically no market share. It's the default on almost everything and it sucks dick and it has no apps, except for the ones built with different libraries which don't fit in on it.
