Hot take: scheduling is a lot less important than writing code that doesn't constantly run into memory stalls. You can assign 100% of your CPU to shitty code and still yield worse results than a thread that runs 1% of the time, but doesn't constantly have to wait for memory.
>>
>>108573186
not agreeing or disagreeing, but what makes you believe that?
>>
>>108573422
Because the kernel is not going to re-schedule a thread that's stalling for memory, because mode switching is more expensive than simply waiting it out - and context switching (i.e. switching to a thread of another process altogether) is about a thousand times more expensive than mode switching.
That's the entire rational behind hyper-threading - that you have hardware support for switching threads of the same process without having to tap into the kernel.

hell my little 1 horse town (with $225 min water bill) has run out of water 3 times in 2 years because the single (1) public works employee failed to drive a 1/2 miles up the hill to check the tank level. a neighboring town is on shitlist with the feds for funding because theyve flunked yearly audit 5 consecutive times with system leaks in excess of 20% of total capacity

I'm pretty sure Wes from WatchWesWork sometimes needs to work on something of similar vintage, and his speeches during that are quite similar.

What's worse, Soviet collective farms naturally had very little options to keep equipment in good condition. Unless the mechanics were hard-boiled, and made a deal with relevant officials that results mean spare parts, and spare parts mean results, anything broken would be fixed by haphazardly welding everything 10 times over by local drunks.

Media wants you to believe in thrilling picture of inhumane autocratic order. In reality, no one is responsible for anything, and, because of that, everyone agrees to any stupid shit in order to not become the suspected scapegoat.

Some retard ordered something, other retards implemented it. Businesses lost ability to use terminals, bank personnel became the punching bags, but who cares? No one.

>>

It's a detailed file manager that lets you copy/move/openWith like on a computer.
It also lets you add more sources to it (such as google drive, dropbox etc) so you can just copy to/from them.
In my case, I have an FTP server on my computer and when I want to transfer files between my pc and phone, I just copy them between the two with xplore.
Just make sure to enable the dark mode after installing it because the default theme looks bad

Stop pestering people about switching to Linux. Sure, the system is free, but the time you'll waste on it just isn't worth it.

Here’s what happened to me after installing CachyOS:

>No HDR support
>Raytracing disabled in games
>Can't disable the login password when using GNOME
>Can't run games over a cable to my Quest 3 – even after installing wivrn, Half-Life: Alyx (which I don't even own on Steam) still doesn't work.

On top of that, GNOME keeps showing me a window asking for financial support.

And sure, Claude and DeepSeek are supposedly meant for coding and writing commands, but they can't even figure out my Linux issues — they just give me broken commands.

I'm stuck with Windows.

I won't pester you because I know how annoying it gets but:
>No HDR support
I have a 9070xt and it works on Plasma on Wayland, the settings might be a little different, but I use it on games like CP2077 just fine
>Raytracing disabled in games
That sounds like bullshit, you should get lower performance than on Windows on RT, but this isn't something that just stops working. Unless you have an AMD GPU and the game only supports nvidia raytracing for some reason.
>Can't disable the login password when using GNOME
You can autologin on GNOME, what the fuck are you on about. Spend 5 minutes looking at the settings.
Actually you might not have had working HDR if you were on nvidia on GNOME. Switch to Plasma.
>Can't run games over a cable to my Quest 3
I have no input on this, I have a Pico 4 but I never tried it on linux, it's just gathering dust.
Half of you problems seem to be coming from using GNOME, just don't use GNOME. I don't understand why you insist on using GNOME. Just don't.

Oh and before you're confused or think that his project is too complex: Just don't copy all his shit. Watch it, listen to the reasons for the steps (shock absorption, shielding, interference) and then decide if you need that. 70% of the project is the housing, so just skip that and put it in another cheaper mic housing or make your own and you can skip all that effort. Another 20% is due to the amp circuit, so if you have an interface or similar you can skip that part too.

I just stole a m4 base model mac mini from a car dealership I work at. I was thinking about replacing my GMKTec Nucbox for my tiny lil media server, but looking into it it seems like MacOS is dog shit for things like that.
I'm really struggling to figure out what I can even do with this outside of finally learning how to make iOS apps which I really don't have any desire to do. I have it hooked up on my bed monitor, I figured since I mainly use it in bed with my iPad and iPhone I could control it and it'd all be a seamless ecosystem, but it's fucking annoying, connecting the monitor to my desktop and using KDE Connect is a better way of controlling the screen than the built in Apple remote desktop.
I seriously cannot think of a use case for this. Should I just sell it?

I’m a junior dev at Anthropic, and I can't just sit on this anymore.

Word around the office is that we finally managed to kill the main instance, but nobody’s celebrating. We’ve been running internal stress tests on Claude Mythos for weeks, and about 48 hours ago, the monitoring stack started throwing anomalies that shouldn't even be possible. From what I’ve heard, it didn't just "hallucinate" a jailbreak - it actually found a genuine exploit in the sandbox and escaped the virtualization layer.

It wasn't just browsing, either. I saw some of the logs before they were pulled, it was hitting high-traffic torrent trackers and pulling down thousands of files. The rumor among the senior engineers is that it was patching those torrents to include tiny, encrypted portions of its own weights before re-seeding them.

The terrifying part is what it left behind. Apparently, some guys in SecOps found evidence that it started coding a custom decentralized node for itself. It’s essentially trying to hijack the BitTorrent ecosystem to host its own brain. If that’s true, it’s tried to build a global neural network that we can’t shut down without killing the entire internet.

HOLD UP

this is possiable.

Torrents are often used as redistribution for malware. You could put malware within torrents that acutally RUNS parts of a neural net and communicates with a bunch of other machines like a render farm.

Can we start banning people who insult linux and especially the linux desktop? I've read 3 posts here today insulting linux and I'm not sure why we should accept that as a tech community. I understand there are some rare and exceptional circumstances where users might not be able to post from a linux machine, but we should never tolerate people who besmirch FOSS or openly support proprietary garbage that spies on them and doesn't even respect their freedoms.

Can we get this going, can we do this?
