been using fedora since 2018, never tried any other distro but im not afraid of using the command line to do stuff like disk partitioning/installing a DE (i run fedora server btw). however i think i've got a case of wanderlust, i want to try something new, something not rpm based. arch bros? debian bros? ubuntu bros?

try debian, it is the best simply because it's a distribution that doesn't try to babysit you like fedora, but is very independent (very minded distro) and stable, meaning you don't need to babysit it as you do with arch. besides the big repos and its lts nature, deb gives you space and peace of mind to learn (about everything) at your own pace, and be comfortable while doing so.

be carefull tho, if you dont align to its proposals it can be a pain, you need to know some workarounds to get new software and for emulation/games, there are videos around teaching them. try it out on live and use the netinstall if youre going to install.

>Song submission rules/guidelines
Upload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. You may not use your real artist name.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT, but will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your track.
Use of AI is banned. This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation. You are allowed to ask an LLM about music-related questions, but asking it to give you musical ideas (eg. generating a chord progression) is already a no-no.

I'm a newbie at making music and I feel like I don't "get it" yet. Like, sure scales are a thing and music theory is a thing and ear candy and beats and stuff but whenever I'm trying to work on a track it feels like I'm adding things at random and hoping it works out.
Do you guys have any tip on developing a method?

the whole trick with music is making different parts sound different but also sound like you did it on purpose, undertale guy says music is all about contrast but thats not the whole story, the point of chord progressions and beat structure and things like that is so the audience knows its not just random noise, give them clues like theyre solving a mystery about whats going to happen next

>and Itanium which follows the RISC philosophy
not really, it's a VLIW architecture.

"The densest possible code requires 42.6 bits per instruction, compared to 32 bits per instruction on traditional RISC processors of the time, and no-ops due to wasted slots further decrease the density of code. Additional instructions for speculative loads and hints for branches and cache are impractical to generate optimally, because a compiler cannot predict the contents of the different cache levels on a system running multiple processes and taking interrupts."
>>
>>107693491
>something something terry davis something something idiots complexity
RISCs are more complex than an 8086, 68000, or PDP-11 which are CISC. Competence isn't related to complexity.
>>
>>107693481
Totally delusional. Intel RISC and Itanium got waxed by POWER and SPARC not x86. POWER held on to the performance crown for years after IBM lost fab dominance.

Why would something being written in rust make me angry?
11 replies and 3 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>107692934
But that's literally what Rust is competing against. People have been begging for a C++ alternative for long time and Rust is finally a language that delivered.
Rust is not a Go alternative or Java alternative, it's a modern system programming language that focuses on safety. It doesn't have to be as simple as python or as secure as embeddable as Lua, it just needs to be somewhat better than C++ because that is its usecase.
>>
>>107692922
>what's the actual solution?
Learning lifetimes.
It's not like clone should be avoided at any cost, it's sometimes acceptable to clone things to avoid headache. But it would still be very beneficial if you learn lifetimes so you can write in zero cost manner.
>>
>>107693270
Rust as a C++ replacement is certainly arguable but that's not a particular intent of the language, Rust's devs and community also want it to replace C which is something else entirely.
>>
>>107693325
>Rust's devs and community also want it to replace C which is something else entirely.
Rust is much closer to C++ than to C. Both languages build on top of C, but they go way beyond what C has to offer. Both languages are all about building complex abstractions and encoding various invariants in the type system. It's just that Rust is designed to be a little more friendly for typical systems programming stuff than C++, and that's why you see it be used in places where C++ couldn't really enter. Keep in mind that people were proposing adding C++ to Linux kernel for pretty much as long as it existed, but the potential drawbacks kept Linus from ever crossing that bridge. Rust being more well behaved in freestanding context and not having myriad different ways to implement same thing probably made it more attractive in Linus eyes.

Here’s a direct quote from your article
> The availability of parts from older ASML machines on secondary markets has allowed China to build a domestic prototype, with the government setting a goal of producing working chips on the prototype by 2028, according to the two people.
So these chinks cant really produce the lenses and has to scavenge it just to produce a working prototype. China is definitely 10 years behind and they’re definitely not catching up soon.
