Do people really fall for this? Like college educated people with important shit on their computers?

>An email arrives with subject "Reservation Cancellation." Sender appears to be Booking.com. The message mentions a refund over €1,000 and urges the recipient to click and review. Booking.com has been a popular target before, with similar campaigns in 2023 and 2024.

>The link leads to a perfect clone of Booking.com with the correct colors, logos, and fonts. Indistinguishable from the real site.

>Then a loading error appears. "Taking too long. Click to refresh." One click and the browser goes fullscreen.

>A Blue Screen of Death fills the screen.

>But Windows is not crashing. This is a webpage designed to look exactly like a system failure. The victim cannot easily escape.

>Instructions appear: press Win+R, then CTRL+V, then Enter.

>The malicious webpage runs JavaScript that silently copies the PowerShell command to the clipboard the moment you click. You never see it happen. When you press CTRL+V in the Run dialog, it's already there waiting.

Saas is the most common way malware is deployed now, and vendor reputation is the only thing that stops the vendor from sniping clients victims (so yes it happens sometimes)

In many instances, especially with fake captcha variants, it does not use powershell (it executes msiexec or mshta on a remote url) and runs the installer/MicrosoftHTML app with user privileges -> then launches an explorer session with the UAC skip parameter -> info stealer. Those protections do not apply.

Besides some severe shit like malware depending on devs being retarded and introducing backdoors via bugs (and you cannot prove whether it's intentional or if devs are really that fucking retarded), yes, malware can only abuse low IQs.
Funny how folklore about vampires was all it took to explain everyone who wants to harm you by teaching some accountability for your own actions but suddenly now it's some le evil spook o algo.

>I want amd to backport zen4 and 5 to am4.
That would be insanely fucking sweet, AM5 is a huge clusterfuck.

>I also want a stack of hbm ram to be included on the cpu.
My dream is to have an APU with decent number of execution units (this will be coming with Medusa Halo which will have a 24CU "medium" sized version), with onboard HBM memory. It either wouldn't need RAM slots or it would work without any RAM installed. Yeah you can't upgrade your memory but in return you have something like 500+ GB/s bandwidth.
But I realise now that even if they made such a thing, the issue would be AMD giving completely fucked up shit support for such a thing. Even Vega 56 had some games it just did not work with whatsoever throughout its entire support history.

>Whatever happened to that amd apu from back in the day that was supposed to have a cpu, gpu and hbm all on one chip?
HBM cost is very high so they are only using it for enterprise stuff which they can sell at 50x the price of consumer products.

READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

bsd limits your hardware choice, consider that.

It depends on your use.
Server rack:
- big
-expensive
+ easily expandable

Computer tower:
+ small
- hard to upgrade

If you have room in your house then get a small server rack. It makes everything cleaner. If not and have to put the thing in your room, then get a tower. Or if you have a big enough room, a server rack.
I went with a tower because it's in my small room. I also don't like the look of the server rack itself.

I got a small wall-mounted 19U enclosed rack
Its pretty nice but its already almost full. If you actually have more than one server and networking equipment, i'd recommend it, it keeps things tidy, but its not a requirement. Before I got the rack it was just a bunch of devices stacked on top of eachother on a wooden shelf. It worked for 3+ years but it looked ugly

>He thinks the kernel is not backed up by Amazon and other corpos
Linus Torvalds and all kernel organization members are literally under corpo payroll and complies with anything under US laws.
Arch linux is only for x86_64, 30 people making scripts and hardly ever managing infrastructure, Valve got fed up with their shitty signing package they had to give them one and then Arch got wet thinking they were on the same level as Valve, absent from giving news to users, relying on everyone with the AUR and a wiki, having no working isos ootb, thinking having a setup script is the achievement of the century, still adopting anything Fedora pushes first, with a shitty packaging policy.
Literally all distros can have an arch-like setup experience. Any distro has a base, minimal iso where you can start installing shit, while also having working ISOS ootb and supporting most architectures, with a good package selection.

Your ram is running at it's basic core clock.
You need to go into bios and activate XMP (usually a couple profiles available, just pick 1) and then save.
Ignore the trolls, xmp is literally one of the first things you do on a new pc.

you might have manually configured the RAM and its settings, that also still works in almost all BIOS? but XMP has the settings included.

Upload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. You may not use your real artist name.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT, but will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your track.
