ultrasonic is not better, just samniggers can't make optical. So western oriented chink phones copycat them.

Verizon used to use special snowflake CDMA technology but today it is pretty standard. I know at least one carrier uses a whitelist of allowed devices. I think it was AT&T. Just make sure it supports the requisite bands and VoLTE.

Gaming phones are a meme, I especially laugh at the idea of having a fan on your phone for water to get in.

The A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max is the fastest chip at the moment, Qualcomm might catch up with the 8 Elite. You don't usually need 12 or 16GB of RAM for gaming... so 8GB in these phones is fine.

As a side note, I have had a phone with >8GB before and didn't notice any extra apps being held in the background or really any improvement in phone function from 12GB vs using phones with 8. I wouldn't want a computer with less than 16GB but for a phone it seems to matter less.

I had an Xperia 5 II which started out like that but then devolved into pic related (not my picture, mine's worse now) after a couple of months, apparently it was because of the Samsung panels for that year was really bad so it happened for some S20s as well but I didn't realize it would happen for newer models too

I kek but it's unfortunately true. When I was in uni, I had a group project where everything was communicated through iMessage. Me, being the only android user, didn't get a single message or any information or didn't know if we were meeting up, and I always had to ask them for rundowns on what they talked about in the group chat. Undoubtedly pissed them off that I existed.

On another note, there were a few times where women were pissed that they couldn't just iMessage or FaceTime me, and refused to download other apps to circumvent it as it was "too inconvenient".

Poco X4 GT. Redmi Note 12T Pro if you can import from chinkland. Both of them have custom ROMs on Telegram, and there are ways to bypass HyperOS when unlocking the bootloader.

You know this isn't Red Magic's first tablet, right? Last year's tablet didn't have a headphone jack either. I'm wondering where the fucks concerned about 9 Pro going to remove the jack were back then.

Did you also forget about the Red Magic 6R that also didn't have a headphone jack? It was an experiment that failed. No gaming phone line can survive ditching the headphone jack for 2 generations. Razer, Black Shark, Lenovo Legion, all died this way.

Which games? The only games that tend to tax the graphics capabilities of any phone seem to be Mihoyo games. You may have better luck disabling Game Optimizing Service. I'm not going to disagree that OneUI is a heavy skin that harms performance though.

>>103161565
Depends how much you want to spend and how long you plan to keep the device. With two years of OS updates and another two years of security updates you've got 4 years from release date of the G85 to remain up to date (but might feel FOMO when you can't get the latest Android later on). With Apple, Google, and Samsung (the latter at least on flagship phones) offering around 7 years of both OS and security updates this is quite stingy. If you want stock Android with some handy additions you could do worse than Motorola.

It's a simple convenience. It's not really "essential" to anything, but it's just another option. It's becoming standard on most phones anyway so it won't even be something you have to wonder about in a couple years.

What are the easiest Android phones to root and flash custom ROMs to these days? More accurately, I'm looking for a phone manufacturer that doesn't try to cuck their customer by arbitrarily making this process harder than it needs to be.
I'm considering a Fairphone 4/5, The FP4 even has an offering that comes stock with /e/OS so that's good.

I had a OnePlus 8T running /e/OS for a few years and it was perfect, but I was running it on an EOL Android 11/12 ROM and had the bright idea yesterday to finally try updating and it softbricked me, forced me to flash back to stock with the OnePlus MSM tool which also relocked my bootloader, and now in (Current Year) on a TMobile 8T you essentially can't unlock them anymore.

Been getting more interested in hardware lately and I'm due for a new phone, found this thread specifically cuz I wanted to know if anyone else had been up for the red magic x launch (some youtubers I like were promoting their products in the past and I assumed phones are kinda like pc's; get the one for gaming and you can handle just about anything else with ease) but desu I have no idea what the X is gonna cost and I could pretty comfortably swing the still pretty new 9s pro+ with maxed ram and storage. Is it worth to wait for something that may be only maginally better and potentially more expensive? If I bought a new phone today I would save already over $100 probably in phone bills by next month when the X drops.

Can someone help me out?

I'd primarily use the phone for spotify, puzzle games, discord, emails, notes, and shitposting

> Minimal bloatware is essential
> For every ad my phone shows me, I'll shoot a dog
> Decent storage (Fucking sick of phones insisting that I have 'no space' to install apps, even though I've only installed 2, and rarely take photos or download shit. This is mostly because of bloatware. But I can't even WORK AROUND this issue because most apps I want to use won't let me install them to a separate SD card).
> Decent battery (I charge my phone every night, but I need it to reliably run apps like spotify all day without dying. Anything more powerful than this is unnecessary).
> Decent camera (Architecture student. These might occasionally be printed at A2 size, but never larger than that. If they're ok at A1, I'm happy. I think 20 mp is ok, but I don't really know shit. Anything more fancy than this is unnecessary).
> Not apple
> No dumb gimmicks or goblin tomfoolery (eg: folding/curved screens, glass backs, no audio port).
> Smaller is better (can't type one-handed with most phones), but not necessary

If someone could point me in the right direction or give me some tips, that'd be dope. I'll do the research myself, but I need some pointers.

Batteries are consumables. You shouldn't worry about conserving it for years when you can just replace or get it replaced in a couple years. Wireless charging has a bit of heat but it doesn't deplete your battery in a crazy way. Of course, it depends on your charger and phone how much heat is actually generated.

The closest you're getting is a phone from Sharp or Sony Xperia, or a gaming phone from Asus ROG or Nubia Red Magic, but they all have glass backs (except maybe for the budget models). Alternatively you could bite the bullet and go for a rugged phone with a headphone jack, like a Unihertz Tank 3 (I'm using the 3 Pro right now), but their cameras would be worse than average, although probably still better than your current one.

If you still want the 3.5mm, you really don't have much choice.

The claims that 3.5mm jacks bit the dust because of waterproofing is bullshit. You can put a silicon plug in and it'll be sealed tight. And now because of the slide, FM radios, which relied on 3.5mm to use the headphone cable as an antenna, are also on the way out.
On this note, charging port covers should come with every phone out of the box.

Anon, I'll try to be as nice as possible here since you seem quite clueless: Every single phone has "Bloatware". Even pixel phones are not actual pure stock android. The reason to get a Samsung right now is primarily because of OneUI which is currently the best android skin on the market.
>>
>TFW you're tempted to shitpost at cellphone manufacturers by developing a 3.5mm power solution to replace USB-C
>>
>>103175986
OneUI is gross. Don't worry you'll get a stable version of OneUI 7 <indefinitely>. It will finally make it good hahaha just kidding. I prefer Google and Apple's takes on mobile OS than a skin.

>>

Hypothesis: You could engineer a super-3.5 jack/port combo that has a far greater capacity for energy transfer, a far greater capacity for lanes, and a far simpler implementation and utilization than USB-C. Because USB-C tried to answer a question that 3.5mm already answered. A robust power/data connection that is omnidirectional. And the conceptual super3.5 standard would be far more resistant to wear.

FM radio support is handy to have even in the event of a bad storm. It's a redundancy that allows you access to outside info, even if mobile networks are down.
>>
>>103176426
nothing, the popular phone makers get shit on, nothing new. they make both good and shitty phones. for example your s22 is considered trash and I would agree, but for casual users it is probably a perfectly capable phone.

2nding this >>103176221sister. i'm on One UI 5.1.1 and since i know One UI 6 breaks a shitload of Accessibility apps and features and i had known One UI 5.1.1 to be stable before i even updated in the first place, i'm never updating it. it's either i die using it within the next 4 years or a 6G phone comes out in 2028, by which point this Accessibility concern will have long been irrelevant.

>through which app/feature exactly?
The phones where I've had an FM radio have generally had a baked in app for handling the radio and discovering/saving channels. At least the Motorola did. It used a 3.5mm headphone cable as an antenna, and you could elect to disable the audio going to the jack to have the radio play through the speakers.
>>
>>103176535
I'll admit it wasn't the best radio and the reception was spotty depending on the cable used and how it was positioned, but it was nice to have. To me it's adds a level of utility to the device where, if smart fails, dumb still exists and it isn't just a brick.
>>
>>103176554
Humorously, if we're talking a raw diversity of features, the Galaxy A15 is the most feature-rich Samsung phone. It sort of explains why the base-level A-series phone is the highest-selling Android phone every single year.

>>103166897

>>
>>103176586
I'll just sing the praises of the A10-series to get the point across.
Cheap, complex in its feature set, utilitarian, plastic. You're putting it in a case and actually using the device, so a glass back would be an anti-feature. You're slapping a $2 screen protector on it, so Gorilla Glass is pointless. You're using the device. And as soon as you go to the A20 series, features disappear in favor of anti-features. The phones get features people who buy the A10 series might like, but it's packaged with bullshit and Apple design convention and it's a steady sacrifice. The A30 series and up are high definition TVs for hamster cages.

S24 or s24 plus?
Was even considering the ultra but I think it's too much now
>>
>>103173577
Sony is the closest one to this
>>
>>103176456
The only issues I've personally had is that the radial blur is really annoying and can't be turned off afaik, which sucks since I like taking zoomed in shots of tiny subjects ((bugs)picrel)

>>103176498
And this, the battery life is trash, I have fast chargers at all of my household hangout spots, work, and car.

And the fingerprint sensor sucks with glass screen protectors, luckily the face recognition is snappy enough (slower than my old OnePlus 6)

These are admittedly major drawbacks that annoy me several times a week.

The happiest I ever was with a phone was my pixel 5, but I dropped and bricked it, and the new pixels are big and ugly.

I hope the s25 is good :x

>>103176586
>>103176620
I was thinking of getting one but anons here said it's slow as shit, so now I'm planning to get an Xperia 10 VI instead
>>
>>103176620
Oh, and the A16 gets rid of the headphone jack, so expect a massive shift somewhere else. Motorola may get very popular in 2025. Like I mentioned, the A10 series was the most popular Android phone globally for the last decade. And Samsung, being blind deaf and dumb and too wrapped up in Korean sex cults to remove their heads from their asses, decided to fuck with it.
>>
>>103176636
The low end ones as well or just the top tier?
>>
>>103176661
Yeah, they're shit build quality and, like I mentioned, Samsung are basically shooting themselves in the face and obliterating their own market. If you had a phone with the features and the build quality of mid-high end phones, it'd be wonderful. But alas, at that level phones become status symbols rather than tools.
>>
>>103176735
I don't really care about build quality that much but if they're really so slow that they have poor longevity like anons say then it's a dealbreaker
You're right though, those features in a midrange package would be killer
>>
>>103176751
Yep. For me currently, looking to get a new phone, I think the A15 is the only one that works on my carrier that has both a radio and a 3.5mm jack. And unfortunately, it's bogged down by bad tech specs. So I can either give up features I really value, or suffer. That's the state of the market in the US.
>>
>>103175066
Actually red magic sells direct to us on their website
>>

t. Uses mint mobile
>>
>>103175044
>/e/OS
Thanks for your suggestion. Can you do banking with that? Apparently most of those "sensitive" apps just won't work if they detect a custom ROM, and it's a service (among others) that I can't do without
>>
>>103176814
Or pay more for a Sony with these antique features.
>>
>>103176943
Depends on the banking app. Mine works, but someone was bitching about his Chase Bank app not working. Same with games, some won't work.
>>
>>103176947
>antique features
Just wait until they start scaling back processing power in flagships and start pushing a "chrome phone" model where you're expected to be connected 24/7 to a cloud that's on an independent subscription service.
>>
>>103176943
"Safetynet" support I think is what you're looking for in that example. The device page on /e/ shows if Safetynet is supported or not (a lot of them are unknown but speculated as yes). I was able to use my app on /e/, but obviously YMMV depending on your phone model/carrier and what app. Neat ROM but I don't want to oversell it, as with anything non-botnet these days there's a lot of variables on how difficult it may or may not be.
>>
>>103176905
>t. Uses mint mobile
You silly boy!
>>
>>103177413
SafetyNet is now deprecated, the new scheme is Play Integrity Services. I couldn't use certain apps on /e/OS even though my device was said to be running some sort of SafetyNet bypass on Android 13.

Does this matter? I have an old phone, runs a version of Android too old to even get the Proton app
>>
>>103178187
Just use the Verizon, sweetie!
>>
>>103178318
13 is new enough that it will run anything besides apps that require SafetyNet/Play Integrity. You can still run most apps on ancient versions of Android. Most require Android 6 or so because Android is so fragmented and so many are running antique software. iPhones are (or were, until very recently on select Android OEMs) unique in that Apple updates them for 7 years or so, so they can expect you to be running the latest or at least a very recent version of iOS.

Androidbros, I have a question, do you guys use any app/site/program/whatever when setting your wallpaper? Like, mine for example keeps cropping the image that I want to set as my wallpaper, is there any way to force/trick the system into using the full image, without cropping or doing anything else? Thanks in advance!

I can't doordash on my iPhone 7 because I can't get the latest software updates. What phone can I buy that's under $150 and will be supported for at least 4 years? I was considering iPhone SE 2020 but then again I fucking hate apple's walled garden and would maybe like to download firefox with the ability to add ublock and extensions of my choosing. I take pictures with my camera and use my laptop, so this device can be bare bones.

thinking of moving on from s20 ultra to either a pixel 9 or s24 ultra
dunno which one I should go with, I don't play games on my phone if that helps
>>
>>103179811
Do you care about raw performance, or would you tinker with custom ROMs? The former is the S24 Ultra, the latter is the main draw (for me) for Pixels. Google has some nice features on their stock OS too but without the "kitchen sink" approach to jamming features in like Samsung does.
>>
Anyone seen this issue before? Refurbished Pixel 8 Pro and manifested ~ 1 day into use. Pixels under the 'stain' function fine, but the green patch remains evident across uses/backgrounds. Hypothesising glue residue?

Aren't pixel chips bad? And they overheat?
>>
>>103180374
Yes they are bad, they do generate a bit more heat than Apple and Qualcomm chips but they are adequate for every day tasks. Just not for high end gaming. Not your Pokémon TCG but think the multiplying Mihoyo games that stress the SoC.

But for custom OS you can't do better than Pixel.

Is there a big difference between the hardware in Xiaomi Poco F6 Pro or the Xiaomi 14T Ai 5G ?

Looking to replace my phone and had issues with it being forced to restart my browser or background apps.

I don't really game on it or take selfies.
