>>103205589 (me) Day 2 of my blog, tried some summit-fi today, moar impressions:>Nostalgia Audio Camelot (USD$2600)VERY boomy bass and energetic treble. Aggressive V-shape. The Camelot is too shrill and sibilant for me. Mids might as well not exist. 0/10.>Melodic Artification Alter Ego (USD$2500)Classic Harman tuning like the SM4 and Truthear Nova. Bass switch adds body and warmth which sounds like New Meta-adjacent. Both tunings are really good without sacrificing resolution. Sounds like a refined Monarch MK3 without its recessed mids. If you think of this as 2 IEMs in 1, the value proposition is not that bad. 9.5/10.>Empire Ears Odin (US$3400)Female vocals have a slight edginess and unnatural extension to them. Suffers from overenergetic treble like the Camelot. But good timbre and very wide-sounding. Lows and mids are okay, if you cope hard enough the Odin is usable. 5/10.>Elysian Acoustics Annihilator 2023 (USD$3000)Lives up to the hype. Extremely clinical and incredibly resolving – TOTL “techs”. Only complaint is that it is TOO clinical – music sounds cold and there’s no sub-bass thump. But minor flaw like this can be forgiven when the upside is so great. You WILL believe in “techs” once you hear this IEM. 10/10.>Vision Ears VE10 (USD$3030)Aggressive V-shape like the Camelot but done tastefully. Tons of bass and treble without sacrificing mids. The definition of fun. 9/10. >Nostalgia Audio Durandal (USD$2420)Same problem as with the EE Odin. Sibilant, raspy female vocals. Harman-adjacent tuning but barely on the level of the SM4. 2/10.>Subjective preferenceAnnihilator > Alter Ego > VE10 > Odin > Durandal > Camelot
>>103215074Also more Hangout:>Fearless x Crinacle DawnLooks like Crin already did New Meta 4 years ago. This thing is better than the Mega5EST in every way. Better quality bass and more resolving in the uppermids/treble. Subjectively, I would rank the Fearless as 30% better than the M5E.>Thieaudio PrestigeNo wonder Thieaudio made the LTD, because the OG Prestige is pos. The elevated mid-bass just sounds like mud, and makes it even less resolving than the SM4.>7th Acoustics Supernova Old-school Harman with a specialization for uppermids and female vocals. Very resolving for Jpop/Kpop but otherwise incredibly overpriced. >Softears RS10 Slightly warm, veiled, and low-res. Maybe the demo unit was broken because this thing doesn’t even sound as good as the Salnotes Zero. It’s akin to hearing an IEM at such low volume that you can’t even begin to describe its sound signature, that’s how I feel when listening to the RS10.>Subjective RankingFearless > Supernova > Prestige > RS10

AutoEq uses harman with -2db bass, i find -1.7db bass with a mild boost in the lower mids like monarch mk2 to be very accurate, although for a satisfying bass response you need high quality eartips like FiiO HS20 and the correct fitment with a good seal. use a tone generator to find a resonance peak, a frequency range where it's disproportionally loud to your ears, EQ that down. also try EQing down the 5khz "harman shout" to look more like tilted diffuse field or JM-1, it should look similar to moondrop variations. depending on the app, like equalizerAPO, you need to set a negative preamp to avoid digital clipping. that should get you close enough.

Tanchjim sisters... My Kara arrived but it doesn't properly in my ear because of the fat nozzld and the iem looks like it sticks out. Might have to return it... are all Tanchjim shells like this?
>>103217847>Tin P1 Max?Here is where planar IEMs get complicated. Plenty of models have undergone silent revisions. The source of the drivers is the same OEM. The OEM has steadily iterated the design and manufacturing process over time, and some older models, like the P1 MAX you mention, were continually produced, but if a later batch, has newer drivers. Tuning is also revised, so you should not reference graphs of an "original," P1 MAX and expect to receive such a unit. There is nothing nefarious at play, simply the manufacturer using available components and not bothering to replicate an esoteric tuning.

>>103218988>Software volume control is always more precise than hardware1) Software volume control will always be limited to 100 steps, and on mobile devices it's even lower. Or have separate volume controls of your system and media player, then forget which was which and blast your ears out when you had your system volume cranked up but your player volume cranked down.2) Software volume control influences software, and can be influenced by software, which should not be the case. How many iems do you all own? Do you use them all for different things? Are the leftovers just in storage or do you sell them? Doesn't seem like a robust used market for them, at least the cheaper ones.
>>1032193431no, just to listen to musicno storage I use it daily
>>103219343I used to own over 20 mid-fi pos before I snapped out of it and sold of them. >>103219343Sold 4 well known ones that were fully reduntant in my collection. About 20 remain. 1 in use (endgame).

>>103218622I mentioned something related to this in the stupid questions general, and I still don't understand how this works. I replaced my DAC (old one broke) and kept the same headphones. I noticed, however, that even at full volume (system wise and on the DAC) the it was significantly quieter than my old one. I didn't rebuy my old one because it was out of stock at the time. Anyway, here is where my confusion comes in: I got fed up with videos that were supposed to be loud playing at basically conversational volumes with everything maxed out on my end. So, I downloaded a plugin for Firefox that allowed me to adjust the volume of the browser above the 100% set by both the system and the browser and it worked perfectly. Not even a case where the audio quality (from what I could perceive) was degraded until I got it up to around 300% and at that point it was entirely too loud for anything. My confusion is where the disconnect comes from. At first I thought maybe the new DAC was just shit and not able to power my cans (but they are cheap and nothing crazy), and then I thought it was the system artificially "throttling" the volume levels but now that I have seen I can just unironically turn it up to 11 and hear quite the profound difference in how loud the audio is... I don't know what to think. Would replacing my DAC with a different one alleviate the problem or do you think my actual issue is with the system placing arbitrary limits on how loud shit can play?

>>103219739Dog cannot compete.
>>103219772I, unfortunately, can't use IEMs for prolonged periods of time and regular daily use. They cause significant pain. Maybe if I paid out for a custom set of molds for my ears that wouldn't be an issue, but I'm not really much in the mood to cough up the sort of money for that. I just want shit to be louder and not spend a lot of money to fix my issue.

I'm stuck between Letshuoer A08 and Kefine Klean....ok I already bought the Klean but it's not going to be here for another week or two. I just got an Amazon gift card, the S08 is available through Amazon Prime and I've never heard a planar before. I'm treble sensitive and generally prefer warm-tilted IEMs, hence my avoidance of planars up to this point but the S08 looks very interesting and is exactly the value of my gift card ($100).Bought the Klean due to not having bought into an IEM meme since the Tripowin Mele and I fucking broke one of those. You can't buy them anymore and I felt they were comfortable and good for laid back listening. The Klean seems to be similar in the low end but has more detail in the treble (something I did find lacking in the Mele), but the S08 is just very interesting to me. Looks nicer, too.I guess the Klean is coming my way anyway as I'm not going to even attempt the nightmare that would be initiating a return to Aliexpress, but what's the /iemg/ verdict on the Letshuoer S08?
