Which is better?
>>64639470Because there is a lot of data on what 30.06 can and can't handle as a result of fudds hot-rodding it for decades at this point. There isn't nearly as much date for 8mm.Besides which, that data can apply to a variety of modern rifles with more safety margin. People usually aren't running those hot loads out of an old Springfield 1903 (or at least that isn't widely recommended). Most 7mm and 8mm rifles in private hands today are surplus rifles. While a large ring Mauser 98 is a very robust rifle there's no way to universally account for a century +/- of wear and tear with neglect, abuse and corrosive ammunition. That's not even factoring small ring Mausers (which is common for the 7mm and 6.5x55 rifles) which aren't as strong to begin with.
>>64639601Come to think of it, 6.5x55 is a bit different in that it basically IS the .30-06 of Europe. It is still popular and modern rifles are being sold to this day chambered in it.In that situation I think there are a few different factors. The smaller bore means you don't have as much room to work with in terms of packing in a longer/heavier bullet so you are mostly increasing velocity which gets it up to a point where rapid bore erosion starts to become a problem. I think there's also a factor of how hunting works in Europe where the animals are on average a bit smaller than their North American counterparts, and game reserves tend to be small so longer shots aren't as common so the added velocity isn't really necessary anyway. If a larger animal like a moose is the target, you can beef up 6.5 or you can just use a more suitable caliber like .300WM instead.
>>64639470Small ring mausers (most guns in 7mmx57 or 6.5x55) have poorer gas handling characteristics and they also lack the safety lug of the large ring, 03, P-14 or modern commercial actions. Basically they are more dangerous to be holding if you make a woopsy.
they’re basically the same thing and the differences will be found in autistic minutiae.>Caliber difference of like 4 human hairs>Imperceptible difference in ogive length>Action length difference of like 3mm>~5-10% difference in sectional energyI guess let’s say the Mauser cause I’m biased towards CETME style cartridges and that gets closer. It’s got a longer, wider, finer bullet and a lower overbore ratio.

>uberti 1873>ruger vaquero>taurus deputy>uberti 1875Which of these would be the best bang for buck to larp as a cowboy with a companion 1873 winchester in .45 colt? Im not looking for period accuracy or anything like that, obviously since im getting .45 colt and not .44-40 but whichever is the "best" out of them
>>64635096>uberti 1873I have this gun unlike the others; it emulates an original SAA quite nicely save for the firing pin retraction safety they put on it (I had it replaced with a regular hammer and trigger later on due to personal taste). Shoots well, looks good, takes about 50 (44/40) blackpowder cartridges before I need to cleanse it from the fouling. Be sure to keep an eye on the screws or apply some blue Loctite, because just like the originals, they'll back out in due time.>ruger vaqueroA beefed-up SAA which allows you to shoot hotter loads out of it, though instead of putting the hammer at half-cocked to free the cylinder, you instead open up the loading gate to free it (the cylinder makes no clicks and can be a little weird to reload due to it being more "slick"), and then there's the transfer bar. They have a great reputation and since you do not care for authenticity would make for a great choice.>taurus deputyDon't know much about it other than that it has a transfer bar like the Vaquero and Taurus has been doing better in recent years so perhaps give it a proper look later.>uberti 1875A similar story to the 1873, but with a different body I take it; it's a beauty.I would also recommend looking into Pietta's line since from what I've heard, they have better internals than a Uberti at the cost of not looking as good.
>>64637416>save for the firing pin retraction safety they put on itIIRC it's due to import laws
>>64639428I know but it still bothers me; luckily Taylor & Company had the regular hammer and trigger for sale.
>>64639428not exactly import laws, but liability. I think some dude shot himself through a holster by loading on a worn out gun, so the safety notch on the hammer was more of a suggestion, they got sued, so now Uberti only makes one 1873 with a proper 4 click action and a "non-safety" hammer, and that's the Cimarron Old Model line of guns, with the pre-1896 style bullseye ejector rod and front base pin screw. All Pietta guns are 4 click actions and lack any type of firing pin safety. I have one myself, and it's a nice gun to shoot, though I haven't had a chance to load BP .45 through it as nobody near me even sells substitute, let alone true BP.
Would someone calling CINCPAC Headquarters saying that Japanese planes were overhead (and presumably being believed) five minutes before they arrived over the harbor have made any difference? What about ten minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour?
>>64622697You don't need to "push" someone into attacking you retard-kun, not when the other party does everything in it's power to alienate you with it's unopposed conquest
>>64635331The majority of those carriers were sunk within six months of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
>>64637628Yes and?
>>64638793Je means that, should the USA had will it, since they knew of that attack, they had the means to counter it easily then just push Japan's shit around. This ignoring that we had a grand total of 8 carriers before Pearl Harbor and lost 5 of them in the year that followed. So much so that we pushed to convert existing cargo ships into escort carriers by the dozens to make up the loss in capacity.
>>64639103>since they knew of that attackStill waiting for actual proof of them knowing 100% that the Japaneae were going to attack December 7th in the morning. There is one speculation of it happening, but it is just that. Speculation. Everyone "knew" an attack would come just because Japan was and aggresive expansionist. They just didn't know when or where. A majority thought it would be the Phillipines (which it was as well) but nobody was omnipotent and simply "let it happen" so America had an excuse for war.

>>64639527The reason we have a meme currency is because the government refuses to implement any real cuts such as stopping contract gibs for the weapon industry. The alternative would be like the Greek economic crisis. They lost the freedom to print meme money after joining the Euro so they had to austerity hard. If we did it like that I don't think we would have anything today either. But the cost is the impoverishment of the general population.

Did the CIA ever make more of these guns?
>>64637966the CIA made ya mudda
>>64637966Bet those prototypes didn't even work under perfect lab conditions but the project enabled some cia suit to burn a few million dollars of tax money.
>>64637966The CIA never made a single one.The entire development and manufacture was done by MBA.
>>64637966>Did the CIA ever make more of these guns?Because assassination is not something the CIA really do as a core concern, which is mainly focused on enabling American corporate interests and there are far better ways to kill people than that.
>>64637966It is plausible that they did. Neurotoxin research has shown that potentially easy vectors of delivery exist that would not be noticed until much later if at all. However, the point of an assassination is usually for everyone to know that it was, in fact, an assassination. There are better and easier ways to get people out of the way that do not involve Bond-like gadgets, as fun as that is. OSS is where you're going to want to look for wildly impractical yet fun ideas.
I've got a serious strategy to beat China in WW3. Let's say we're trying to invade Shanghai: we'll humidify the fuck out of Shanghai's atmosphere with milk particles. Chinese people by-and-large are lactose intolerant, so all the Chinese soldiers will be forced to surrender due to shitting their pants or experiencing a tummy ache; meanwhile, the milk in the atmosphere will enhance the combat capabilities of western soldiers. It doesn't violate the Geneva Conventions because milk is technically not a chemical weapon, and it'd be humane too since it doesn't even cause any permanent injuries. We'll haul over all kinds of equipment and boatloads of milk to achieve it, and we could even "poison" Shanghai's water supply with milk, leaving the Chinese with zero ability to fight. There'd probably be mass desertions too since PLA soldiers would just ditch the trenches to get away from the smell of shit.I don't know if chemical weapons are within the scope of /k/, but what do you guys think? Should I try and lobby this idea to a think tank?
