There is a reason a cheep steel plate for center-fire rifles is 3/8" or 1/2" thick instead of 1/4" like rated armor for the same threats. "Stronger than steel" for composites (talking about the naavi arrows now) is also generally stronger *by weight* and has little to do with hardness.
