I have a M1903 from Rock Island Arsenal and it has some weird Layman sight on it. I don't know if I should remove it and sell it, or is this some type of match built rifle for something like the CMP or NRA matches back in the 1920s & 30s.

I just wanted a nice 1903 to round off my collection of 20th Century American infantry rifles.

Muslims can't make anything that isn't a supeficially functional imitation of a real thing that barely manages to not collapse on itself without anyone touching it, so how would guns be any different?
Seriously, if the Islamic golden age ever existed, a curse must've been put on them for them to end up the way they've been for the last 600 years give or take.

people tend to blame the Mongol invasion
apparently it was ghastly, but I just don't see how a decade of war and famine can break a people like that

like if you read the big Muslim classics (i did, some at least), they're autism incarnate in the best way, and the people that come after are the polar opposite, as if doing things well is a foreign concept to them
>>
>>64643999
>but I just don't see how a decade of war and famine can break a people like that
It wasn't just a decade of war and famine. It was the complete eradication of the upper class in many regions, and their replacement with Turks and Mongols. It's not like they went away either, the Mongols were still ruling Persia into the 1500s. Parts of the middle east didn't recover their pre-Mongol population until the 1900s.

Today, in the modern era, the Aral sea is disappearing because rivers are being diverted to water farmland. This process has accelerated ever since the fall of the USSR. However, this is not a new phenomenon. The sea was likewise diminished before the Mongols invaded. The sea returning was a phenomenon documented by Persian scholars following the destruction and depopulation caused by the Mongols. In short, they had modern current day water diversion and usage in place, that should give an idea of the population and level of development. Then overnight, it was gone, both the infrastructure, the people it supported, and all the people who knew how it worked.

Long enough for the spores to germinate.

>Canberra is assessing whether to send its fleet of 22 aging Eurocopter Tiger attack helicopters to Ukraine as Kyiv seeks more tools to counter Russian drones and bolster frontline aviation, according to local Australian media.

>The review follows a formal request from Ukraine and renewed pressure from Australia’s Ukrainian community, which was angered last year when the Australian Defence Force dismantled and buried its grounded MRH-90 Taipan helicopters instead of donating them.

>Australian Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy confirmed that officials had approached Kyiv about the Tigers, saying gifting them is “our top consideration,” The Sydney Herald reported.

>Canberra’s Tigers, inducted in 2004 and slated for withdrawal by 2028, have struggled with high sustainment costs, software and parts shortages, and a history of availability problems.

>Despite the fleet’s condition, sources said the helicopters could strengthen Ukraine’s expanding airspace defense requirements, particularly in anti-drone operations.

>The Tiger can field a 30-millimeter cannon, 70-millimeter rockets, and Hellfire air-to-surface missiles, all of which are already in Ukraine’s arsenal and are valued for rapid response at low altitude against Russia’s unpredictable Shahed kamikaze drones.

>Australia is now transitioning to 29 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, the first of which arrived in October, and officials have indicated the Tiger retirement schedule could be accelerated if a transfer to Ukraine is approved.

Little known fact the Conquistadors lost their steel-shod pikes when retreating from Tenochtitlan when the entire population rioted. They later made their own using bronze/brass they made themselves and armed a militia of local injuns with them. That as the army which finally achieved total victory. So they had some copper and tin deposits, they just didn't figure out how to use them.

They had both forms of warfare, they wages traditional wars of conquest and "flower wars" intended for the purpose of religious sacrifice. They had already conquered the area surrounding the Tlaxcalans and it provided an easy source of captives for sacrificing so they didn't bother lose a ton of warriors to finish crushing the Tlaxcalan enclave simply because there wasn't much upside but there was a lot of downside

Now that the dust has settled... Its time to apologize. Join me in an apology for a pistol was betrayed by its country despite its years of service.. A perfect embodiment of the GWOT era.

Dear Beretta, we regret replacing you with cheap malfunctioning trash.

Dear Beretta, we apologize for feeding you with substandard magazines which caused failure to feed issues.

Dear Beretta, we regret mocking your lack of modularity despite 99% of troops never actually putting modular crap on their service pistol.

Dear Beretta, we apologize for saying you were too big for womens hands, we realize now that women should never have been in the military or even the workplace.

Dear Beretta, the weight of our transgressions stays our /k/ feet. We do not wish to be left behind.

Amen.

To all men listening now, this week, head to your local sports and outdoor and purchase a Beretta M92 variant. Clean it, train with it, learn its functions and maintenance as your own, it will take care of you as well. But do not apologize, as we have all apologized in solidarity here today.

>>64643018
Why do people actually think this? Lol. POGs shoot literally 80 rounds a year per person through their M9s, there is no supplemental training aside from annual range qualification. Even in the infantry, they don't actually shoot beyond the bare minimum required to complete annual qualification.

I seriously doubt more than 1% of M9s ever actually got pushed to their supposed 25k round limit, since literally every serious unit that might put heavy round counts through their pistols stayed the fuck away from the M9 entirely

Why didn't the US switch to intermediate calibers completely and instead insisted on full size calibers for another 2-3 decades after WW2, despite the M1 Carbines success? Clearly the power it offered was completely sufficient. Of course I know the .30 carbine isn't exactly a true intermediate round, but I'd think that someone would have been aware of 7.92 kurz and even 7.62x39 and come to the conclusion that .30 carbine didn't give us any issues and the russians and germans are experimenting with this new fancy assault rifle idea, maybe we should do something like that as well. Most other countries adopted intermediate calibers much quicker, even though it's the US that had fairly unique at the time experience with something like a proto-intermediate caliber during WW2.

Unironically, the full sized rifle caliber was fairly well suited to the Korean conflict, so a better M1 Garand wasn't the worst idea in that context. The next major conflict, Vietnam, was better suited to short rifles in intermediate calibers. So, we eventually made the AR-15 good enough for that.
It sucked ass in Afghanistan, so now we are making the M7 to fight that war, which is clearly over.
While it creates immense training and logistics nightmares, having an intermediate and full sized rifle cartridge avaliable is the only way to cover your bases.
If any of you say drones, I will find you on reddit and get your account banned.
Nothing can replace a group of guys on your street with rifles. Not a drone, not a tank, not an F-15, not an atomic bomb.

The only reason I can think of is because the infrastructure around the 300 Blacked is so much more well established in the west. What with the parent case being .223/5.56 and the projectile being based on .308/7.62 NATO.
7.62x39 is an amazing caliber for lots of reasons, primarily energy retention and barrier penetration. The biggest problem with it is that it is a lot heavier per round than 5.56, which is absolutely not a trivial matter when flying supplies to niggastan and asking your dudes to carry it up mountains and through jungles.
>>
>>64612774
> I thought before Audie called it that becaue it was a gun *for* them.

>>
>>64615774
GIGN does a lot of training and operations in former French colonies that use 7.62x39. This means they aren't reliant on ammo they bring with them and can use the host nation's ammo supply.
