There's credible rumors that the only difference between a PL-15 and a PL-15E is the sequencing of the dual pulse rocket motor, which would be done in software based on flight parameters. If you burn the 2nd pulse early and turn it into a single pulse missile, you nerf the range and basically turn it into a slightly larger amraam with slightly larger range.
So all it takes to turn a PL-15E into a non-E is probably a very small firmware hack to re-enable the dual pulse motor.

>Paki J-10s probably didnt use AWACS to guide the missiles because the only one around was the SAAB 400 which is only compatible with F-16s
That's not what the Pakis claim, they claim to have achieved full integration between the J-10s and JF-17s and its SAAB Erieye using a homegrown Link-17 datalink system which they modified with Chinese technical assistance. They also acknowledge they had surveillance help from Chinese satellites.

>i think chinks are either underselling the range of their own missiles or Pakis got PL-15 with PL-15E markings under the table.
Why? If the reported range of the PL-15E is 145 km and you say the distance of the engagement happened at 130 km that would fit inside the estimated range.

As for Chinese claims on their domestic PL-15 nobody has seen them in action so it's hard to tell how real they are.

>Speaking on a recent podcast, Michael Dahm, a senior fellow at AFA’s Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, said the kill chain may have started with a Pakistani ground radar—“maybe a surface-to-air missile system, or some other type of radar system”—which “illuminated the Indian target.” Then, a Pakistani J-10C fighter “launched its missiles, probably at range, and finally, an airborne early warning and control aircraft used a midcourse datalink to update and guide the missile to the Indian fighter.” “The Pakistani Air Force deployed …’ A’ launched by ‘B’ and guided by ‘C’” and hit the target, he added.

I've never heard anyone say wild hog is good eating unless you trap it and force it to eat acorns. Otherwise they taste like trash because they eat trash. Maybe if you spicebomb it and slow cook it'll be alright but anything tastes good when you do that
>>
>>64633044
My main hunting bolt doubles as one of my PRS bolts so I actually do shoot nice stuff through it regularly, more expensive then my hunting rounds with some experiments (putting aside savings from handloading). I completely recognize that's not the norm, nor should it be. But at the same time I'll note that in the context of hunting I also don't think the shifts are that significant. The fact is when we're talking performance center fire rifle stuff when we're aiming to hit a 2-3" circle on an animal at <200yd and even that is rare normally it's <100yd, that's just not a very high bar. Like taking bog standard 308, 150gr TSX is going to be like, .3" difference in drop at 200yd vs 150gr FMJ. The real difference between match grade and cheapshit isn't generally average performance but rather variance. Higher variance doesn't change zero though. If you're competing and really do care about fractions of a moa then yeah for sure, but I've never seen the need to stress about it otherwise.

I mean, I'm not discounting exceptions either, like if you're using something spicier and suspect you're getting to the point of barrel burnout that's gonna be worth checking. Or if you know you plan to hunt something more challenging. And I do end up "checking" before hunting just because I love to shoot these guns and don't need much of an excuse to go out anyway, plus the ritual of "confirming my zero" right before hunting season starts is a nice annual chance to meet up with other guys on our properties or a range and then go to a bar afterwards and start the season off nicely. But if for some reason someone was truly sweating every single bullet they put through their rifle, I don't think objectively speaking slightly different BCs and velocities in the same caliber are likely to shift the impact point a few moa to the point where it'd really fuck you.
>>
>>64635508
I would think the different materials might be an issue because they would have different weights. I know that bong faggot tgs outdoors was super happy to find some pair of rounds for one of his rifles that were 2 different loads but had the same point of impact. I forget if it was solids vs jhp. I know I've had zero changes with my .22 but that was like shorts vs minimags and on my target rifle but that was shooting high power and is like an moa, half moa at 2/300 yards and could be due to something else other than the ammo
>>
>>64635521
Weight gets incorporated into the umbrella of balllistic coefficient (though of course shape is an impact too). But you can get identical weight copper stuff, it just has to be somewhat longer due to being lower density, so the primary issue is if you run out of COAL headroom for older cartridges not designed for modern high BC rounds. Then you either have to go out of spec or swap cartridge. But normally with anything anyone uses for hunting it's not a problem.

But the point isn't that it has no impact, the point is that the impact isn't likely to be a limiting factor in typical hunting even with somewhat different BCs because you just don't see significant drop or windage with normal center fire stuff at all until you get to distances that are way beyond what most of us do (or ethically should) hunt at. I mean, there are also other approaches, like any modern optic beyond airsoft tier should track well, so you should just be able to note down different zero points too and could adjust that way, but it's just not a big deal. I really think most of the lore around zeroing before hunting season is more about (very reasonably!) creating a ritual for people who aren't shooting all year to take some time refamiliarizing themselves, getting into the mindset and meeting up with buddies vs a major risk of the rifle having had a radical zero shift in storage. And of course it doesn't hurt just in case it did take an impact without one realizing it.

Plus it's fun.
>>
>>64635564
>But you can get identical weight copper stuff, it just has to be somewhat longer due to being lower density,
Around 15% longer, to be exact. (Jacketed) lead is ~20% denser than copper, but since you lengthen the body and/or boattail rather than the nose it works out to a smaller length increase proportionally. That means copper bullets can start having boattails at lighter weights, which is cool.

You, as a leader, cannot expect people to continue going into harms way if you are never seen to go there too. No need to pull a Julius Caesar and lead a counterattack in person, but there has to some perceived personal danger or people will quit following. I think he understands that much. "Give me bullets, not a plane ride" indeed.

>duuude gun laws are pointless because everyone with 4k worth of tools and 2 weeks of free-time can build his very own SMG (that has an effective range of 10 yards)
ok but where are you going to get the ammo?
sure, smuggling 10 rounds across the border is easier than smuggling a weapon but for a proper "protect the rights of the people"-situation you need hundreds if not thousands of rounds per gun

seems like it would make more sense to build DIY long range rifles instead of SMGs / Pistols so you can get the most out of each round
yes, you can make your own ammo with blanks and slugs but that stuff can be banned too and then its back to square 1

There are three ways to go about it, conductive segments of the barrel, which would be almost impossible to diy, small holes in the barrel externally wired at every charge point or nested cables that run up through your charges and projectiles inside the barrel. There are drawbacks with both, external you'd need to carefully load, maybe bag your charges in a bright color so you could see that you were properly planting igniters. It would also weaken your barrel having holes up and down the side, maybe a second outer barrel or some reinforcement could ameliorate that. Internal wiring would require a void in your projectiles and charges for the wire, gradually shrinking as you needed less and less wires. It could be constructed in a unit then slid into your barrel, the wire that didn't get blown out by following projectiles might start causing a bore obstruction though. You'd also have a much harder time rifling and the power would drop with every subsequent shot, which come to think of it might be a benefit counteracting a problem of that system, muzzle velocity increasing as each projectile has more barrel to travel.

The two styles I have heard of for ignition are using a resistor like some nichrome wire or using enough voltage for a strong enough open spark. Straight voltage is probably the faster option and cheaper than using electric matches or bits of nichrome that'll most likely be single use.

Then it's just a matter of wiring it up to an appropriate switch.

For the life of me I cant figure out how nobody keyed onto the idea of an old timey M79 or M320 but instead armies had their soldiers wrangle various adaptors onto ther rifles instead. Having a means of giving every squad the ability for easy indirect fire that doesnt involve calling up the chain for company level assets like mortars would be a greater boon than every man humping around a BAR imho
