It's been the dominant "M855A1 + M80" plate on the market for a few years if you have $2k. It's like a slightly upgraded Tencate CR6450SA and competes favorably against the LTC 28791. The only plates that compete with it are the LSAPI (3.5lb, same rating but raised BFD limit to 62mm) and LTC's replacement for the 28791, which is projected to do the same thing but 4lb. Last competitor is the Hesco SC3812, which drops BZ API protection but weighs 3.8lb SAPI M and is much thicker. This guy is selling the PBZSAs in a cut like pic related VS-PXULV meant for a covert carrier. These are very likely SOCOM issue. The PXULV is a featherweight all-PE plate rated for just 7.62x39mm MSC. 1.5lb and under 0.4" thick.

>>64636167They're going to be flying along subsonic UCAVs anyway, the speed doesn't matter. The F-47's range and payload requirements make it nearly a bomber already, It's going to be more like a stealth F-111 than a stealth F-15C.
>>64636235We don’t know what the exact CCA CONOPS look like currently. It’s very possible they end up forming more of a picket line while the F-47 runs around at high speed playing fire brigade wherever there’s fighting on the front. Even if that isn’t the case if they base F-47 at Guam high speed is very useful just to cut down transit time and increase sortie generation. We have no good public information on payload, but if the variable cycle engines deliver their claimed efficiency increase and the 1000nmi combat radius is taken as closer to the upper bound it won’t need to be a 100k MTOW monster like the F-111. If, and admittedly it’s a big if, Boeing is bidding a similar design for both NGAD and F-47 then the MTOW is probably in the 80k range similar to the F-22, as that puts it in the right size class to more or less max current carrier cat and trap weights. With the USAF focusing on combat mass there’s no reason to cancel a program that hasn’t hit major developmental stumbling blocks and would be more able to deliver on that mass, in favor of forcing a larger, more expensive, and very in demand platform into that role. Even with the missileer concept only being talked about as a supplement the strategic bomber command is already pushing hard against it, as they’re looking down the barrel of a major bomber shortfall as the B-1s approach the end of their useful service life and have no interest in sharing their production lines until that shortfall is addressed sometime next decade.
>>64636351>If, and admittedly it’s a big if, Boeing is bidding a similar design for both NGAD and F-47 then the MTOW is probably in the 80k range similar to the F-22, as that puts it in the right size class to more or less max current carrier cat and trap weights.Assuming you meant FA-XX, my understanding is that it's planned to use mature 30,000 lbf F110 engines, which suggests a smaller and lighter aircraft compared to the 40,000lbf XA102/XA103.>strategic bomber command is already pushing hard against it, as they’re looking down the barrel of a major bomber shortfall as the B-1s approach the end of their useful service lifeSAC/GSC can fuck right off back to the 60s. Their role is no longer necessary, SLBMs can handle 100% of nuclear deterrence. There's no need for the overhead if their job is to spend 99.999% of the time jerking off and 0.001% on Midnight Hammer type shit.Perhaps the right call would have been to cancel B-21 rather than F-47, but they're examples of convergent evolution and the B-21 is here already.
>>64636428Yeah I meant F/A-XX, my bad there. F110 for that is the rumor I’ve heard also, though I’ve also read they intend it to be a “more strike than fighter” kind of deal, so I’ve found it hard to estimate what performance specs they’re targeting. I think it’s possible they end up in a similar weight bracket, but with F/A-XX having much lower top end flight performance. The Navy at least acknowledges they have a lot less room in the budget for it and don’t seem to intend on gold plating it to Air Force level. Ultimately I expect F/A-XX to be a very heavy bird though, cat limited probably, as bay size will largely determine weight and it will need to have fairly large bays if they want it to be a better striker than the F-35. IIRC those can already do a pair of AARGM-ERs with a pair of AMRAAMs internally, so to justify the expense of the new program I’d imagine we’re probably talking about a bird that could haul 4x AARGM-ERs. But at that point the bays would be so large they’re bordering on internal carriage for a pair of JASSMs, which is a tall order. As far as strategic bomber command goes, I get their position. I agree their nuclear role isn’t very important these days, but it’s the conventional missions they’d be called on for in a war with China that would really tax them, and I think they should have first dibs on B-21 production for that, as they do face a major airframe shortfall next decade. Plus I’d imagine a missileer conversion of a B-21 is probably a 5+ year project so I don’t think it’d be the worst to top them up first and start looking at that seriously in the early 2030s once we have a better idea of how CCAs will fit into the force structure in practice.
>>64636554I also think the FA-XX will be very heavy by Navy standards, but I'm certain that the F-47 is targeting increased range and payload rather than increased energy-maneuverability. There may have been questions about the relative value of aerodynamic performance vs stealth in the 90s, but by now it's clear that stealth is the absolute measure of an aircraft's combat performance, dogfights now are lucky to last long enough for the loser to realize he's not alone. As far as strategic bombing goes, I'm not even sure how it differs from tactical bombing in an era of precision munitions. What's the difference between dropping a JDAM on a radar and dropping a MOP on an underground enrichment facility? Just the range and the payload? But if even air superiority fighters are prioritizing range and payload these days, that would seem to push attack and strike aircraft into bomber territory. We're at a junction here where all aircraft want the same things: stealth, range, payload, and powerful radar/EW. Unlike any point before this in history, none of those things are mutually exclusive. There's no longer any compromises to be made, no longer any roles. How good of an aircraft you have for (X) is purely a matter of how much it costs.
>they added half MOA adjustments to the A4/M4 carry handle for camp perry/KD qualificationsA2 sights and A4 carry handles both have the same zero clicks. it's like 1 3/8th inch or whatever fucking weirdo shit for the front sight and half MOA for the rear sight windage. On an M16A2/A3 the elevation drum on the rear sight is 1 click per MOA 300-800 meters and on the M16A4/M4 its 300-600 meters 1/2 moa per click. The Z for zeroing is present on both the A2/A3 and the detachable carry handle and it's for zeroing a 20 inch barrel and it's 1 moa off from 300 meters. So, 100% chance the reason they fucking did this is because the come up from 300 to 400 m is 3 moa, from 400-500m is 3.5 moa and then 500-600m is 4.5 moa. on an M4 it would be 300-400m is 3.5 moa 400-500m is 4.5 moa and 500-600m is 5.5 moa.half an MoA wouldn't matter in combat, assuming you even switched the drum so they were 100% doing it for their KD range shooting to make it easier to hit the bulls eye at certain ranges

>>64635593Yep, and as a practical matter I don't there's any downside in something normal like 308 or 6.5 either. SAAMI COAL only starts to become more limiting as you get into older magnum stuff like 300wm. That's got enough vroom to throw really high bc high precision stuff, but the spec doesn't let you go as long as you might like nowadays without uncomfortably deep seating. So it's become pretty standard to just go out of spec in well experimented with ways, though then you have to stick with that going forward. I think medium term better solution will just be to jump to 300prc, which is basically "how reloaders have altered 300wm anyway, without the belt and a few other misc fine tuning, standardized" and seems to be getting traction ok for a new cartridge so maybe it'll actually succeed.
>>64634790>Being able to make your own lead bullets should never be controlled.Do you also feel you should be able to quarry your own asbestos to insulate your home?
>>64636342nta but there is a spectrum of harm/value tradeoffs here dude. Asbestos or running a home PCB plant with waste dumped into a stream behind you is pretty fucking different then making your own lead bullets for an antique. Someone making their own boutique stuff is so damn niche and so specific to them that the balance falls the other way.By all means regulate some external effects, proper disposal of by products etc, and if you're really concerned could set some really high ceiling to prevent commercial abuse, "maximum 5000 bullets per year and no selling them", but juice doesn't seem worth the squeeze in trying to ban something that individual. Plus I really oppose laws that are effectively unenforceable or only enforceable with a immensely evil panopticon police state.
