What modern day tech could be deployed for supporting a large scale amphibious invasion that the allies didn't have back in WW2?

>>64704317shooting at a tanker is an act of war. hope it's not sailing under an u.s. flag.
>>64704334because as much as trump's weird accomodation is pathetic, the rest of europe is also just ignoring russia whenever they spergout and send another plane or drone over the edge of a border somewhere, russia is completely fucking impotent and desperately hoping to provoke something so they can claim it's an existential threat and either use it as an excuse to their retarded populus to back out of the war or to mobilise. literally doing nothing while russia spergs out is the best strategy there.china is a different strategy, if they seriously start a blockade, it's going to get broken very quickly because there is WAY more stake in it, not just from the US but from everyone else as well, europe also imports a shitload of stuff from taiwan, and i'm not just talking about the really high-end chips.
So here is my glorious Century Arms AK after a fire and 4 years rusting in a scrap heap. A couple folks i know have been watching youtube and gotten into restoration, they are competing with each other to see what is the worst one they can fix. Well i'm gonna give it a try.As far as i can tell the lower and are fine, however all the sheet metal and most of everything else is unsalvageable. The plan is to whenever possible replace the irreparable components with items from a 'Asian parts kit' aka a Type 58. So what is my first step, put in a 5 gallon bucket of water, dump in some Borax and hook up a battery charger?
>>64703841>>norktard having real lyfe friends, hobby or skillsx
The heat treatment of the trunnion is probably bad, with a enough rounds the lugs will mushroom, then causing bad headspace and then case ruptures.Honestly a cool wall hanger, but not worth your timeNot the right thickness receiver for an North Korean kit
>>64703354>heat softened>>64703596>springs looks good and fucked>>64703829>Heat treatment seems utterly ruined but so far all of of the parts and springs are intact just crusty. If the springs got fucked by heat, the trunnion is probably also bad.The trunnion is NOT easy to replace. It has rivets holding it to the receiver. The barrel is press fitted into the trunnion. A soft trunnion can crack at the barrel pin or it can let the barrel move forward, causing catastrophic headspacing. When making your own AK from a 80% kit, you are typically demilling the trunnion and reusing it with a new receiver and barrel. In other words, swapping a trunnion isn't impossible. Most builders have already done it. Multiple times. It's a pain in the ass, but totally doable. >>64703841>i'll make my friends buy a Type 58 parts kitIsn't that a milled kit? You'll probably want a milled receiver to go with that. Also, a milled kit won't come with a trunnion. Just a heads up.
>>64704222The receiver is too thin, everything is there but it looks like so much material flaked off it's half the thickness in some sections. I'm going to strip it down but besides attempting to win a bet with a string it doesn't seem usable, it's just too thin. 99% chance a wall hanger but i'll wait a couple days to see what the rust removal solution reveals.
>>64704261>The receiver is too thinIt probably isn't, but a fresh receiver looks better than a pitted one.How is the barrel? If the inside isn't too pitted, you might have a pre populated barrel assembly. I prefer parkerizing but you might be good with just a crown job and an oversized barrel pin. And maybe spray paint. But no way to tell before the rust comes off.Again, the type 58 might be a milled kit. Do you have a milled receiver?

>>64703992just looked it up, bear in mind the last entry is 3pm so if you arrive late just do it all on day 2 and relax on day 1we are getting a bit of rain right now so I would be flexible about indoor/outdoor depending on the weather.I personally, have never split it up, but I live in Tucson so lol.If I were going to do it in two days, I would do the main hangar, the space hangar, and the outside on one day, and the ww2 hangars and outside on the second day there is a lot of outside outside, it probably makes more sense to do it both days and pay more attention to different things on the second day, but also it is only 80 acres so you can do a quick loop first day, then pick a few things to gawk at, then come back and see some other stuff on Day 2the world war 2 indoor parts are really the only part that is conducive to shaving off for a full day, there are three of the five hangars for world war 2 including the B-17 hangar which is technically its own museum.there is also the land warfare museum that I have not yet been to, which is done in a partnership with the Imperial War Museum.

>>64704192I'll defend the BMP series' fuel tanks for a couple reasons: anything thats going to be able to get to the central tank, rupture it and ignite the fuel is almost certainly going to have fucked the guys sitting around it already, so its really just an expedient cremation feature of the vehicle. As far as the rear tanks, those were normally used for longer transit periods, they could resist rifle caliber AP rounds and if someone is shooting the back of your APC with an autocannon you have bigger immediate survivability issues

>>64700379>The current goes into the hull Not the argument, DC causes way more corrosion than AC and directly corrodes the rails and coils. It's a maintenance nightmare on top of a system that's already a maintenance nightmare.
>>64704032Yes, but I think the flywheel itself is a result of wanting AC for other reasons. I read a Navy paper on railguns a while back where they stated that capacitors are preferable to flywheels because they're safer. I think if they had gone with a DC design, it would have been much more likely to use capacitors than flywheels.>The big downside of LIMs is speed is frequency dependant so you need to ramp frequency up as speed increases.I think maybe the compulsator can account for this? I'm unclear on how exactly it differs from a normal alternator.
