When the Geran/Shahed drones first appeared, I figured Russia would use them smartly in a classic SEAD/DEAD role: send waves of them to force Ukrainian IADS to light up radars and reveal positions, then follow up with VKS aircraft, with anti-radiation missiles to systematically dismantle those defenses. Russia instead has chosen the most brain-dead and wasteful approach, by treating the Geran/Shaheds s as nothing more than slow, low-cost cruise missiles hurled directly at static infrastructure targets, while leaving the overwhelming majority of Ukraine's air defenses intact and free to keep operating. They're banking entirely on brute-force volume and saturation to get a few through, completely abandoning any effort at SEAD/DEAD. But the thing is that they're not even achieving any kind of saturation effect since, the launches are scattered haphazardly across random cities, regions, and targets all over Ukraine that changes every night (some they they go after energy infrastructure, some other go after some depots, some others they try to hit some cities...), instead of making up their minds and concentrate them single high-value area, frontline sector, or even one major city at a time, and keep hitting them until achieving disruption or collapse. This is also precisely why so few targets are actually hit despite hundreds being launched every night, and so many of them are intercepted.By contrast, even in the recent U.S. operation in Venezuela, the LUCAS drones (the American Shahed clones) were properly integrated into a coordinated SEAD/DEAD package.

On the other, that's not exactly an ideal load to carry, for several reasons.Most "match" ammunition is loaded to just above the minimum velocity and energy levels required to meet most "power factor" requirements, so that the shooter can focus on pulling the trigger and not managing recoil. They're also usually loaded with light round nose bullets. They won't expand, and they won't have a lot of ass behind them.If you're really worried, just go buy about 50 defensive loads, shoot a couple magazines so you aren't surprised by the recoil in an emergency, and then carry the rest in your gun. They're not that expensive if you aren't blowing them in bulk shooting drills with them.

Even the Kel Tecs aren't at risk of detonating. You don't need to spend thousands for a gun to work, they're not hard to make. It's like 1500s technology. Plates are cheaper than they've basically ever been and they are increasingly mainstream. Obviously train for failure drills (in the dick!) but it's still an issue to be contended with.M855 does not reliably pop all PE plates for example at low velocities. It reliably punches through 98% of them at over 3,000ft/s. For another, unrelated thought, it just got found out in /gq/ and it raised a huge shitstir that the budget Level IV plate everyone has been using, the Hesco 4403, has basically no headroom above Level IV spec and M2AP reloaded just 20-30ft/s above NIJ spec (2,910ft/s) will pen a conditioned plate. Anon getting a long schlong .300 winmag and learning to reload would fulfill that larp fantasy nicely.
After taking some input, I think a wlvrn might be best for me. The sfar doesn't seem to be the most accurate for an AR, and I've heard that the wlvrn is one of the most accurate piston driven systems that exist. It satisfies my short bullpup/clearing rifle role, and can be caliber swapped if I feel I need something specialized without having to confuse my manual of arms.
