I put my wingman in four mile trail as we began the next engagement from 41,000 feet at 1.2 MACH racing down to their altitude of 18,000 feet, dumb a - - he didn’t even change his altitude to make it harder on us. Since they had face heaters (firing heat seekers in our face), we cooled our jets by retarding the engines to idle power to cool them off and denying the face shot while maintaining supersonic on our downhill slide. They took the bait, the leader rolled out behind me, the wingman behind mine. We had them right where we wanted them! Not even an F-16 can sustain a climb followed by a 9 G turn and roll out 2 miles behind a supersonic target and chase them down so the missile will make the kill. The leader found himself in front of my wingman who easily “Doe popped” him with two missiles while outrunning the F-16 wingman.

After a fuel check we split for 1v1 BFM. Starting from line abreast each fighter turns 45 degrees away from the other to gain spacing. At the fight’s on call the fighters turn toward each other passing canopy to canopy with no advantage. The knife fight begins in earnest as they turn to gain six o’clock on the other for a guns kill. Hands are helpful in explaining what happens next. Obviously the Viper can out turn a Dart and the LTC was behind me closing for guns! My next maneuver required exact timing or it would turn out all bad. As he closed for the shot I presented him with the infamous “F-106 Barn Door”. This is a frightening experience for anyone who has never seen the Dart act in such an unbelievable aerodynamic manner. Never attempt this maneuver at home as it should only be done by a highly trained and experienced Dart driver!

With him captured solidly at my six, in a hard four G turn, closing for the kill, fangs out and dripping, I held the G while applying full opposite rudder. The Dart responds beautifully with an opposite direction roll through the vertical to a full nose down dive where I apply full afterburner and dash for the deck. From the Viper’s cockpit it looked just like someone opened a barn door in his face, nowhere to go and no idea what to do. Suddenly the Dart disappears. His only option was to call nock-it off because he lost sight having never squeezed the trigger. Meanwhile our wingman had to nock-it off because the LT was low on fuel.

I sent the Vipers home and my wingman and I played for a while. My debriefing was short and sweet. The Fighter pilots had to fly again to get some real training. It went something like this: Know your enemy. Never underestimate your enemy. Never enter a gun fight with a knife. Never engage an enemy when you don’t have a clue. Lose sight lose the fight. Pecker checkers should be well endowed. When the Genie pops up, you’re goanna die! Nothing was ever said about the moons, I believe we “communicated” effectively!

BVR combat is only possible in a world where at least one side doesn't employ stealth aircraft. In a conflict where stealth aircraft are the norm, detection ranges will shrink dramatically, bringing back chance WVR encounters.

It's been a while since i researched the topic but to my memory, the general mythical concept of a vampire before the modern age is that the stake to the heart does not necessarily kill them, but stops their animation - paralyzes them, essentially. Not to be autistic, but a 10" is also too loud, the flash is too great, and concedes both terminal ballistics unless the right ammo is used and also concedes a lot of AP capability if your opponent is wearing plates. Plates are cheaper than they've basically ever been and they are increasingly mainstream. Obviously train for failure drills (in the dick!) but it's still an issue to be contended with.
M855 does not reliably pop all PE plates for example at low velocities. It reliably punches through 98% of them at over 3,000ft/s.

For another, unrelated thought, it just got found out in /gq/ and it raised a huge shitstir that the budget Level IV plate everyone has been using, the Hesco 4403, has basically no headroom above Level IV spec and M2AP reloaded just 20-30ft/s above NIJ spec (2,910ft/s) will pen a conditioned plate. Anon getting a long schlong .300 winmag and learning to reload would fulfill that larp fantasy nicely.

After taking some input, I think a wlvrn might be best for me. The sfar doesn't seem to be the most accurate for an AR, and I've heard that the wlvrn is one of the most accurate piston driven systems that exist. It satisfies my short bullpup/clearing rifle role, and can be caliber swapped if I feel I need something specialized without having to confuse my manual of arms.

It’s multiple things. The cylinder binds up randomly when shooting it either in DA or SA, the crane-to-frame fitment is atrocious and the front latch doesn’t lock into the frame securely at all, so the whole cylinder/crane assembly wobbles side-to-side very excessively (I’m not talking about endshake or rotational movement, those are fine) to the point where it shaves lead occasionally and accuracy sucks (it’s not me, I tested on a rest), and there’s a dragline on the face of the cylinder where it’s been making contact with the forcing cone even though I checked it multiple times over with feeler gauges and it’s within spec.

I’ve done everything everyone says to do to fix these problems, my ejector star is spotless, the cylinder axis, ball-bearings, etc. are spotless (I did find a 2mm sliver of metal in there though), I’ve taken the crane apart and back together again 50 times to try and make sure the front latch spring isn’t bent or something, and no matter what I do it will not stop giving the same issues and I cannot get it to latch any more securely or rotate freely under fire.

I almost wonder if there’s a casting flaw in the frame’s front latch notch, or if the front latch is straight up the wrong one, because it doesn’t seem to want to stick out as far as ones I’ve seen on other SRHs and SRH Alaskans in stores, but I don’t know. I gave up chasing problems and am letting Ruger deal with it.

I’m not gonna sell it when it gets back and this isn’t gonna be the last Ruger I ever buy, I love my Blackhawks. It’s just frustrating to be the one guy who gets a lemon.
