Pistol related but last question thread died a while ago. Are all 1911 .45 barrels interchangeable with all other 1911 models? I've got a Kimber and want a threaded barrel for it and I'm wondering if I should just get a Kimber barrel for it.

well since we're on the topic, I found this guy's product that basically amounts to an LED housed in a polymer casing that acts as a controllable dimmer/brightener for an ACOG that someone skimming might find useful
https://m1bullpup.com/product/rem-acog/

could also serve as a cheap way to bring an old one that's run out of tritium back from the dead
considering grabbing one since theyre only $45 but I think I'll see what I'm working with first before I commit on that front

Yes, they pretty much all write open ended disclaimers like that and put big bolt "READ THE MANUAL" labels all over their guns. This is specifically so that if there is a malfunction, somebody gets hurt/killed and there's a lawsuit their legal team can go.
>Well it says here, there and in the other place in the manual that it can blow up and kill you if you use it wrong.
>Using it wrong can mean 9001 different possible things, one of which you surely were doing.
>And surely you read the manual.
>Says right on the gun to read the manual before shooting it.
>Oh yeah you DIDN'T read the manual? I guess the gun going off and severing your spine is YOUR fault then, not ours you absolute idiot.
It doesn't always actually work as a defense tactic, but it definitely makes things harder and wastes a lot of time/drives up legal costs for the plaintiff.

In a world with 3d printing I'm kind of a luddite. I want to do a weldless mating of a stribog lower to an m11/9 upper using box tubing. I know I could do it, but I don't want to end up with a monstrosity. Are there any schematics available that would give me an idea of what would be involved with mating them?

How dented is too dented for a cartridge to be unsafe to shoot? I bought a bulk order of 600 rounds of 7.62 Nato and a few of the cartridge boxes were already torn open inside the bigger box, with some of the cartridges being dented. I'm just wondering at what size of a dent does a cartridge become something that will blow up your gun.

This is a long one, sorry. If you're referring to the Militechs, they're around half the cost of 3810s and put on a decent-ish show (Buffman results table pic related) but they aren't as stout as the heavier, cheaper Alumina RF2. That one puts on a much better show against M855A1 (~20 hits stopped), which is ass backwards so I'm assuming the SiC they're using isn't very good. Comes with the territory. Plus, they've got a cheat ring and also come with the caveat of being uncertified Chinese plates from a company which could have gotten certified but did not for false reasons. Reason stated is that Chinese companies cannot be certified by the NIJ. That is false as seen with Longfri. You need to have an office in the US where the NIJ can go to collect samples for unannounced follow up "FIT" tests. The likely real reason is that Militech does not want any assets subject to US jurisdiction, which is alarming for an armor company. Test reports on Militech's site show BFD against 7.62x51mm M80 starting at 41mm shot #1, 41.6mm shot #2, N/A on shots #3-6 (so really you have to assume over 44mm, which is a fail), and most importantly no drop test. Overall not great but passable for cheapo armor. I think people are conflating Militech's plates with each other so some caution needs to be exercised with their lineup. Lastly, keep in mind Buffman is a Militech affiliate and it has to be assumed the plates they sent him were handpicked since they were going on video. Yours aren't.

In this case I'd suck up the extra weight / cost and go with LTC 19513s or Hesco 3411s if you need A1 protection. It's about a pound more, with the Hesco being heavier, but those two plates are edge-to-edge. The Hesco is NIJ certified and dead nuts. The LTC stops M855A1 very easily but shot spacing is wide per the Apex / Hoplite 3-shot test.

As a clarifying follow-on to this post, the "US office" requirement is only for Chinese companies. There are Euro-based armor companies with no US presence that are NIJ-certified.
There is no legitimate reason why Militech, after being in business for more than ten years, has zero NIJ certs. Guys like Adept have the same problem. They've had plenty of time and it is moronic to cut themselves out of BVP grant eligibility. NIJ certification is not that expensive relative to the benefits.
I gotta make Militech an infographic.

I bought the top one from your picture a loooong time ago. The pouches on the sides were useless. After some time I ripped them off and sewed molle where they were. Sewed on a radio pouch too. The mag pouches are big. You can fit 3 aluminum mags in them. Been wearing it at matches for the last couple years. No durability issues. Good value for 50$ if youre able to sew a little.

It could, but there's less troublesome alternatives. This is the kind of thing which looks really cool in movies and fits well there, but which leaves too much room for error when you've actually gonna be betting your life.

What if it snags? What if doesn't quite deploy all the way? What if the other guy pulls out a gun while I'm fiddling with trying to get it to deploy? What if the other guy has a sleeve gun and he deploys it faster and cleaner than me?

>>64688870
This would work, though not great if someone is expecting that you've got a gun on you, or thinking that you might have a gun.

>>64688882
That's a good one they do now, yeah. Just a fake arm in your coat sleeve, while your real hand is on a loaded gun already at all times.

>Tends to have some American parts which we have the power to veto sales

Without delving into technicalities, even if a weapons system incorporates some US-made components doesn't make it automatically fall under ITAR.

Companies can incorporate US-made dual-use components into their systems and keep their products ITAR-free, as long as those parts are not on the United States munitions list.

That being said, the US would have an easier time strong-arming Israel even if their products were itar-free than EU countries.
>>
>>64688959

5.56x45mm is better than 7.62x39mm, which is why 5.45x39mm was invented, but the Galil was an improved AK in 5.56mm before there even was an AK74 and 5.45mm cartridge.
An extra rugged and easier to use AK in 5.56mm is also going to be much more conscript proof.

>Norilisk and Mayak were so bad that during an ecological and pollution review in the early 2000s where Russia basically gave the rest of their industries a free pass to continue polluting, they forced both of them to make changes and clean up their act. It was THAT uniquely bad.
Karabash deserves to be up there with them, it probably went under the radar because its a pretty small city (that is literally dying out on top), and not only because it's on the same train line as Kyshtym
>While rural areas of Chelyabinsk suffer from the effects of radioactive contamination, the urban population is faced with the impact of the chemical and metallurgical industries
Those people are fucked regardless where they live kek
And Karabash has still some uniquely grim characteristics even for russia

Ah Dioxin. If I remember correctly it was less bad than some of the 1970s era predictions suggested(especially acutely, humans can handle higher acute doses of it than you'd expect), but it's still nasty stuff.

My first thought is that NK was long considered the junior partner of the USSR and China, and was content with sitting quietly in the background learning from borrowed technical expertise and using it's intelligence apparatus to uncover the fuckups its allies were hiding and taking notes of how not to do things. At the end of the day, most of the events listed in this thread have a foundation of the USSR having no idea what it was doing and doing it anyway.
>>
>>64689552
Dioxin toxicity was based on Guinea pig models. Turns out they are incredibly sensitive and humans can handle about a thousand times more exposure.
Still incredibly nasty though.

The tritium acogs can have issues if you're in a dark place shooting into a bright place because the filament won't gather enough light to make the reticle stand out. Same for the other direction but we just put duct tape on the filament to cover it up and dim the reticle.
The new battery ones shouldn't have this issue because you can just crank the brightness to whatever you want.
>>
>>64689015
I have a TA11 horseshoe dot on a SCAR 17. It works well. The ACOG is a great optic and the BDC works well with m80 ball and slightly less well with 175gr SMK. As >>64689797 said, the reticle brightness can be sub-optimal in certain lighting conditions. I usually keep the light pipe half covered with gaffers tape because otherwise it's too bright when shooting outdoors in direct sun. But overall it's a pretty minor complaint. Keep in mind it's an etched reticle, so even if you can't see the illumination very well, you can still see the lines as long as there's enough ambient light. But if I were going to do it again, I'd probably get the battery version just to not have to deal with replacing the tritium every decade or so.

Sadly not true. The rumor in Pyongyang is they have developed a form of hyper autism, they plan to channel Greta Thunberg via the Ryugyong Hotel as the delivery method. A castle would be a cool place to hold your wedding, so sure, I can see that happening.

>>64689033
It's locally sourced stone and period style masonry. It's not maybe the sexiest castle ever, but it's appropriate and functional for a smaller military garrison of this kind. You could maybe slap on an outer layer of white masonry to make it look more smooth and uniform, but I think this looks nicer and has more character.

>>64689396
It's largely been a semi-hobby project, some professors and scholars decided that it would just be a really cool thing to do in their off-time, but also that it would be a nice example of practical archeology which would help give some insight on how to do masonry for antique buildings like these (many original ones need reparation work).

Being done by a smaller group of people in their free time, with some occasional volunteers, it's of course taken a lot of time. Back in the day, with a full force of paid carpenters, masons, etc, you could have gotten this kind of small castle done in a couple of years.

Also, both cows and human milk have negligible amounts of Vitamin C and fiber, so they're not really a whole food, adding potatoes to your diet though and you're effectively getting everything you need, making mashed potatoes pretty much the ultimate "has everything" food.

The fact that Protolabs flat out refuses to fine tune any dimension more accurately than +/-.005 is incredibly gay and revolting. I know, I tried.
I hate them so much. I will not use them unless absolutely necessary.

I used to intern with a Class II FFL precision rifle builder who also manufactured some NFA items and no joke, you can literally make a good quality (albeit rough finished) suppressor for under $100 provided you have a lathe. You can make even cheaper wipe suppressors for close to $50 out of pipe tubing you find on amazon. I remember watching this video by an American volunteer in the Ukrainian International Legion who talk about a company in the Czech Republic that sold suppressors for the Bren 2 that cost $125 so clearly it doesn't cost that much to make them yet I'm having a hard time finding anyone selling even shitty .22lr whip suppressors for under $500. Certainly with the NFA tax going away you'd think there'd be a market for cheap suppressors in the US right?

I am getting out of the trade and going into the medical field because machining doesn’t pay enough. I’ve been machining for almost 5 years, can program and set up shit but I have become jaded seeing how our wages across the board have not kept up with inflation, while a gas pumper at Fuckees earns almost as much as a machinist does. I have pondered once I start making a
Better salary in the med field to buy myself a nice little CNC mill & a manual lathe and just start making stuff for fun because I do actually enjoy the work. Shops here top out at like $40 an hour for the absolute best, but most shops won’t even pay $25 dollars an hour because southerners have never recovered from having an economy based on chattel slavery.

For the record, I could easily make a suppressor for like $150 or $200, one of my friends made one with interchangeable baffles so he could use it on 5.56, .300, 9mm & .45 guns. His was maybe more expensive to make because he did use a lot of titanium. It’s not complicated technology, it shouldn’t cost hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to make, realistically a 5 axis machine with a bar feeder could turn out dozens of them a day,
