Shot my Hellcat Pro as a total novice.
>felt stupid loading magazines unused to tension
>didn't hit any sort of intentional grouping likely due to recoil
>gun felt great in my hand thankfully no malfunctions
>had a lot of fun anyway
>watched several videos, read manual, and successfully disassembled, clean, and reassembled
>first class is early next month
I did it /k/.

No outdoor ranges nearby, since my work schedule is changing i can no longer go shooting Friday's when its half off. How much do you pay for a membership to your local shooting range if you have one? Its like 200 a year for mine which is the price of about 15 range trips so I'm considering it, also has unlimited gun rentals and a few other perks

This Walther P99. Absolutely, would never sell it. I would not pick it again as it's in .40, it gave me a terrible flinch that took me years to get over without instruction. I had nightmares about it.

However a 9mm version in green at the time would be high on the list of finalists. A lot of the ubiquitous strikers we have now didn't exist the, it was pretty much only this or Glock. If I could do-over with today's knowledge I'd probably have gotten a 9mm 1911 or P226.

It's just a mini P99 with the same foibles as the full size but now with 1 less finger. Other than nostalgia or /hg/ autism I dunno why anyone takes 10 round subcompacts seriously anymore when 12 round micros are smaller, lighter, MUCH thinner and cost the same or less. But it's a good gun with a very good trigger.

A P238. Still have it. I don't know if I would have bought anything else at the time, there were far fewer decent options for small guns then. Pre-P365 days. It's a decent shooter for its size but I never carry it anymore and it suffers from a weak magazine catch spring, even after getting swapped out for Sig's "upgraded" heavy spring twice. All pinky extension mags back out under recoil with anything resembling a man's grip strength. I'd sell it if anyone around here wanted to buy it, but they don't because no one wants a single stack micro anymore.

No and definitely no. I didn't start carrying regularly until I got the P238, (also picrel, also gone) so having a gun was mostly something that gave me peace of mind when I was living alone for the first time. In retrospect, I should have just bought a 92FS since I ended up owning a dozen of them later.

Jericho II (((Enhanced))), the nu-models where they changed the barrel rifling, slide machining, and polymer frame. God I was retarded. At the time I bought it there was almost zero aftermarket support so good luck getting a holster with the light you want and when I wanted to dip my toes into optics, I realized I had to send the slide out to get milled. I sold it after a year. There is a silver lining though. Dry firing with that 12lb double action perfected my trigger pull and it solidified my taste in DA/SA and hammer-fired pistols. If I could do it again, I would just suck up the price and go straight to a USP or P226.
>>
>>61977221
>>61967886
and the funny thing is it doesn't come close to replicating it. You can't get the low pre travel and over travel and even more importantly the non-hinged trigger from a 2011. Putting 11 at the end is the gayest marketing gimmick ever. We're calling anything a 2011 now I guess.

Some guns the .40 S&W mag and 9mm mag are nearly identical and the difference in feed lips don’t matter. 14-15 rounds of 9mm can fit in a Beretta 96 10 round .40 S&W magazine.

Glock 17 Gen 4. I sold it a couple years later after I had another pistol, and was I a bind and needed cash. Knowing what I know now, I'd probably have bought a G19 or a CZ75 instead.
>>
>>61976488
Depending on how you look at it either a Beretta 96, or a very early import .40 S&W Jericho. There are objectively better choices for first gun, but I had so much fun with those that I wouldn't change a thing.
>>
>>61977785
Just go to another state and buy some regular hi-cap mags and drive them back to your state. Then keep them hidden in your house in case of the bugaloo. No cops will find them unless you are a drug dealer or criminal that gets their house searched. And if they are found, just claim they are not yours, probably in the house from the last owner. KEK.

I honestly have no idea. It LOOKS mostly cosmetic only, but I do see an optic cut on the Mk23. There was a big change to make the takedown mechanism easier going from Mk7 to Mk12, I don't see anything substantial other than the optic cut on the Mk23, externally at least. They tease colored frames in the description but I only see vague evidence on image search

June and July are the worst months for firearm sales. Apparently a large segment of the gun market are cishet normies with partners and children, and during these months, they're blowing all their money on summer vacations with their families. >>
>>61977561
The sights are cheap and usable, and easy to replace if you need more. People who change the trigger are wrong, unless they're installing a smooth-faced G17 OEM trigger in their G19/26 to replace the serrated "target trigger" that those guns come with so that the ATF will let them into the country. The default grip texture is fine for most people and it would detract from the gun if the grip texture was as aggressive as some people want straight out of the box and everyone else had to sand it down to their taste.

How important is concealing for carry?

Honestly, it really depends. Are you concealing into places you really shouldn't? If this is gun you're carrying concealed while running errands or have no criminal or professional ramifications (getting fired) for being discovered then it really doesn't matter. The grip is the most important part of the gun for concealing in my opinion, if you're carrying in the waist band then it's the part is going to be the part that sticks out of your waist line. I always pick the 92 compact over the fullsize when concealing to places I shouldn't.

Not fr, dog, not fr. The polymer compact double stacks are about at the edge or even over it in terms of weight/size most people are willing to EDC. The Berettas are well outside that.
>Compacts don't conceal anyways
They actually do, with a good quality holster and an untucked non homo shirt a compact will disappear on an average size man in the appendix position. A full size will still print a bit no matter what you do for most folks. This is general consensus level stuff, although my personal experiences mirror it.

Yes, it probably would. I’d trust S&W more than most other 10mm manufacturers (FN, Nig Sauer, Spriиgfielд) and the M&P will certainly be more pleasant in the hand than a Glock. I was looking for a semiauto bear defense gun myself recently, and I eventually decided on pic related instead of 10mm altogether because it can handle .45 Super with little or no modification.
>>
>>61980465
If your life depended on it being concealed, either criminal issues or getting fired. A compact should not be your choice.

Compacts do conceal, but at much more difficulty than a slim gun like subcompact or smaller 1911. If your choice is a fatter compact, how important is concealing to you? Anyone who has tried concealing a 43 or 48 or whatever those numbers mean vs a 19 will tell you the slimline guns conceal much easier.

>Berettas are outside that
several people ITT carry 92s or PX4s. PX4s are thinner than the 92 by about 1/8 of an inch so if he cared about concealing he should look at. that over the 92. Slim grips on a 92 will make it 1.38 on the grip at it's thickest. PX4 grips are 1.20 and roughly the same as the G19.

>They actually do, with a good quality holster and an untucked non homo shirt a compact will disappear on an average size man in the appendix position. A full size will still print a bit no matter what you do for most folks.
If you use an enigma rig you can conceal a fullsize easier by sliding it further down in your pants. Barrel length becomes more of an issue but you hide the full length grip.

He's new to carrying. He really should get a super small gun so he always has that to fall back on if he can't figure out a way to conceal a 92 compact or centurion.

Well at least one of these came true, Atomitronx updated their website recently with a rotating barrel variant of their (his) Merc/Proton pistol, which is what the RIA 5.0 was derived from while Fred Craig worked at RIA. Pff I don't know, is there even one? I mean small outfits like Atomitronx and Biofire can actually do whatever they want and come up with crazy new ways to solve problems. Third Bay is another example but even in the case of that insane thing it's still just combining 100 year old ideas into a smaller package, and Biofire is using existing technology to re-do an idea that's been done before, and Atomitronx is now using rotating barrels (yawn) which are 120 years old. But in terms of stuff you can buy, is that stuff going to proliferate through the industry? I doubt it, so even those "innovations" aren't laudable beyond weirdos like me who love stuff like that.

I can't think of any manufacturer doing anything even slightly innovative enough to be copied. They all just rehash the same things among one another and pander do the lowest common denominator (the reddit gunlet). The industry is almost completely done playing catch-up too, HK is kind of the only one left stuck in the past.

The P365 is really the only thing that's come along to change the industry since reliable large capacity double stack single feed magazines in the 80s and red dots that can handle pistol slide recoil in the 2000s. And I'm sure people would argue even that since Kellgren had a similarly sized and capacity'd gun 2 decades earlier (albeit a crappy unpleasant one).

It's kind of a depressing realization.
>>
>>61981447

>>
>>61981704
I understand that. I'm more concerned about the windage shift. None of my other guns exhibit this.
>>
>>61981636
I don't know how to explain it but I have seen this exhibited in the opposite direction. I will zero perfectly at 25y, and then when I shoot at 100y my impacts are like 12" to the left (and low of course) and I have to hold right to make hits. I've always assumed it's my astigmatism playing tricks with where the dot actually is in 3D space. It's acting like a rifle if you were to fire it held at a 45 degree angle where the optic offset is not vertically aligned to the bore. But obviously that's not happening in pistols since we intuitively hold them consistently vertically.

I have never seen this happen to me at distances closer than zero though. Is it possible the dot mechanism or optic body shifted after zeroing? I've no other explanation
>>
>>61981745
Were you shooting offhand with the same technique for both? If you were resting the gun for the 25 yard shots, you might be getting some parallax error when shooting offhand for the close ones.

>Is it possible the dot mechanism or optic body shifted after zeroing?
Shouldn't. Mounting surfaces and threaded holes were degreased, screws were degreased and Loctite 243 applied and torqued to FCD specs and given 42 hours to cure since install. It may be an acclimation issue. I notice when I shoot my Staccato P I don't have anywhere near as many issues with anticipation as I do with polymer framed guns. Trying to make a ~5 pound trigger break on a two pound gun sends some flags to my brain to brace for impact.
>>
>>61981762
>If you were resting the gun for the 25 yard shots, you might be getting some parallax error when shooting offhand for the close ones.
I'm not 100% sure about that. I've zeroed multiple guns with benching them and have only ever had the typical height over bore differences.

Well, it’s not about resting the gun per se, it’s about eye placement relative to the optic. If you zero the optic while it’s held out at arm’s length, you’re good, but I see a lot of guys zero their pistols off a sand bag or backpack with their eye right behind the gun like they’re shooting a rifle, and then they’re surprised their zero changes when they hold the gun two feet further from their eyes shooting offhand. You’ll also hear about guys experiencing this when they shoot Flux Raiders and the like. They’ll shoot it offhand like a pistol and have one zero, and then deploy the brace and shoot it off their shoulder like a carbine and have another zero.

I wouldn’t do that if you can stand it. Just zero the gun at 25 off a bag with your arms outstretched as if you’re shooting offhand. Zeroing at 10 isn’t horrible, but you’re still gonna be about an inch and change high at 30-40 yards.

I was excited by the Nomad frame, but the change to grip angle was too much for me to get used to, and I now believe that the additional "downward" bearing that a OE glock frame requires for sight picture actually aids in recoil control. Or something like that.
>>
>>61981894
Problem is that's how I zeroed. Pistol was bagged and arms pushed out how I normal shoot standing.

>>
>>61981912
Hmm, it might not be a zero issue, then, and you might be dragging those close range shots low and right due to something else in your shooting technique (unless it’s a really tight group, or those closer shots were off a bag too, in which case I got no idea).
>>
>>61981910
Is there a Gen 5 frame that is OEM but has the texture? black phoenix has oem but it's unmodified.
>>
>>61981932
Closer shots were off hand. Now all this said, this is the first time I've shot an M&P since probably 2016. I've been carrying and shooting my 2011 like crazy since January so it may be an acclimation thing and I'm fucking up my grip before the shot breaks.
>>
>>61981942
I really don't know but laser stippling has gotten pretty inexpensive IMO and looks to be a good option if grip texture is the issue.

I just ordered one of these. Supposedly works with Safariland buckets. I'm excited.

>astigmatism

I use a green chevron exactly for that reason
>>
>>61983158
This is the worst astigmatism representation I've sever seen. Is yours this bad?
>>
>>61983631
It varies. On some days it's worse, on some days I don't even need glasses to shoot with red dots. That's a middle of the road representation for me which at least has one general aiming blob. The biggest problem for me is the variability, because it changes zero depending on my eyes on a given day. If there's one dot is, it where it was last time I shot? If there are two dots, which one is real? Or three dots with aberrations...
>>
>>61983696
Have you tried using a chevron or a reticle that has a ring around the dot? If so, does it help at all?
>>
>>61983696
Does it matter what make/model the dot is?
>>
>>61983801
Yes. Different dots bloom differently, lens design, lens coating, maybe even the emitter itself may change it. I fine the Romeo Compact X blooms the least compared to the RMR, RMR HD, SRO, 507C, 507Comp, 509T ACSS, 507C ACSS, Aimpoint P2, and the EPS,
>>
File: rmr sunlight.jpg (3.17 MB, 3423x2442)

>>61983779
Yeah, and yes but with caveats.
I have multiple Holosuns with dot+ring reticles and I always turn the rings off because it just adds more clutter. Every segment of the ring fragments like the central dot does, so it's just an absolute shotgun blast of an incomprehensible mess. Turning down the brightness to just barely usable is also very helpful with all powered dots.

I have a few dual-illuminated RMRs including one with a green chevron and I find them very usable when shooting from shade (which my primary range is). Shade brings down the relative brightness which is excellent for my eyes and the dual-illuminated reticles are very large (7.5 MOA minimum compared to 2 MOA for Holosun dots) and that tames the problem too. The problem with dual-illums is they have a VERY strong notch filter and the lenses are horrible so that occludes or distorts the target quite a bit for me, even more so when the lenses are blasted with silencer jizz, and that distortion makes it more difficult to see the target and actually aim at something. Because of that the dual-illums are not a net gain over powered dots for me, but I recognize the benefits.

>>61983801
Not really. Some people say certain colors or brands are better, I've never experienced that at all across dozens of red dots but I've stopped challenging such assertions. The problem is contrast, for me at least. The more contrast the worse it is, and all dots from all makers (other than dual-illuminated RMRs) are capable of blasting contrast far beyond usable levels. Secondarily reticle size is a problem for me, larger reticles seem to exhibit less distortion and are less distracting. So in that way some manufacturers limit the dot sizes that are available. I'm really not sure how people benefit from different manufacturers making basically the same products.

This is all personal experience with my rekt eyes, I understand people's experiences differ.

>they would be off vertically but horizontally they shouldn't.
Wouldn't some of the vertical difference in angle and height over bore between the dot and trajectory become horizontal if the gun isn't held vertically?
>>
>>61983960
No but I have a Swampfox Justice which is their big-window unit (it's nowhere near as big as the Comp or SRO lol). Doesn't make a difference to the dot or astigmatism if that's what you're asking, it just gives you more leeway for poor presentation. But Swampfox lenses are noticeably clearer and less distorted than Holosun and Trijewcon and that makes a difference albeit small

>>61983987
Ya I mention that here >>61981747 but our monkey brains would notice if the pistol was even slightly off it's rotational Y axis and certainly anon is not holding it at such an extreme angle, like 45 degrees, as to produce those results
>>
>>61984000
