Just finished reading The Darkness That Comes Before by Bakker. Definitely a very interesting and mysterious book. I will get the next two asap.
The mystery is really engaging. Kellhus is very enigmatic and there's this insidious feeling as well. It wasn't as much torture porn grimdark rape as I thought it was going to be, but I guess that might come later.

Status of "Bleak Season": DONE.
It was truly ... bleak ... had some moments, but all momentum and tension was killed by way this book is structured.
Also spoiled myself almost all of the story by looking at wiki, 'cause I wasn't sure if I remembered the events from previous books correctly.

Surprisingly Enough(NOT), Common Sense Is Overpowered in Cliché Writing Website Edition

Stubbed >>24958783

>What is /wng/ — Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

>Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

>Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

I completely forgot BL even exists because I don't watch anime or read manga at all anymore and all the woman written stuff in the web novel space is your typical otome/villainess slop or modernslop about "I was forced to marry the toxic deadbeat but hes secretly a billionaire" or something like that.

He's right not to give a fuck. Would writing another book make him significantly richer? No. He doesn't have that long left to live anyway, and the money he gets from it wouldn't make any difference at all to his quality of life or to his estate.

Would finishing the books improve his legacy? Probably not, because the HBO series was far more widely known than his books. The HBO version of the story is the one that will live on in popular imagination. There are so many examples of far, far more famous authors than GRRM having their work completely overshadowed by popular adaptations. Stephen King is a perfect example of this. And man is he still bitter about The Shining.

So the only real motivation he could have to finish it is because he wants to, he doesn't want to leave it undone. But that doesn't require him to publish a damn thing. He can finish it, sit on it, and enjoy watching everybody gnash their teeth over it as he slowly dies.

"showing" has to be done with moderation. if you have lots of description of characters in your story, being obsessed with this "technique" will just turn your prose into an agonizing pantomime.
>>
It's advice for beginners. If you've been writing for years and have to constantly be reminded "show don't tell" then you should probably become a journalist because novel writing isn't for you.
>>
This is something you tell a 10 year old when they try to write their first story and it is basically just a terse summary of things that happen without any detail. You explain to them that it is more engaging if he describes things for the reader, to draw them into the scene. "Show don't tell" is how you phrase it to them, so they can remember the advice easily.

Then eventually he gives you a story that is overstuffed with florid descriptions of absolutely everything and you have to have a conversation about pacing and priorities. It seems most people on this board, and on reddit probably, never got that second discussion.

>Cardinal Ratzinger already affirmed that the title “Mary, Mediatrix of All Graces” was not clearly grounded in Revelation.
>68. On the other hand, the title “Mediatrix of All Graces” risks presenting Mary as the one who distributes spiritual goods or energies apart from our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, the term “graces,” when seen in reference to Mary’s maternal help at various moments in our lives, can have an acceptable meaning. The plural form expresses all the aids — even material — that the Lord may grant us when he heeds his Mother’s intercession. These helps, in turn, prepare our hearts to open to God’s love. In this way, Mary, as Mother, has a presence in the daily lives of the faithful that is far greater than the closeness any other saint could have.

Just to clear the air: I think your intentions of piety, fidelity to Orthodoxy, and Tradition are radically commendable but we must get through the crucible of obedience. I understand that the current culture of the Church's pastoralism is vagueness and ambiguity but you joining me as a self-seeking disobedient whore after his own thoughts, ends, and mental farting isn't going to help anyone. Was Rahner heretical? It's of course a grim possibility but also the Church doesn't speak on this authoritatively. Heresy is obstinate refusal of the Church's teaching not failing to foresee every single development of Doctrine. Even St. Ligouri had propositions condemned by the Pope. The point is that we shouldn't do word-association purity tests and though it is funny to do this at times, when many Catholic laity do not follow Humanae Vitae, there is still a need for radical obedience and not pretending to be our own bishops. Know of a couple of my prayers. and a happy Advent and Merry Christmas.

Disagreeing with your recommendations ans thinking Rahner is a terrible theologian doesn't make one disobedient.

Sapient Species, Races, and Miscellaneous Sapients Edition

FAQ:
>What is worldbuilding?
Worldbuilding is the process of creating entire fictional worlds from scratch, all while considering the logistics of these worlds to make them as believable as possible. Worldbuilding asks questions about the setting of a world, and then answers them, often in great detail. Most people use it as a means of creating a setting or the scenery for a story.
>"Isn't there a Worldbuilding general in >>>/tg/ already?"
Yes, there is. However, that general is focused on the creation of fictional worlds for the intended purpose of playing TTRPG campaigns. Here you can discuss worldbuilding projects that are not meant to be used for a roleplaying setting, but for novels, videogames, or any other kind of creative project.
>"Can I discuss the setting of my campaign here, though?"
If you want to, but it would probably be better to discuss it on >>>/tg/ . We don't allow the discussion of TTRPG mechanics, however. If you want to discuss stats or which D&D edition is best, this is not the place.
>"Can I talk about an existing fictional setting that is not mine?"
Yes, of course you can!
>"Does worldbuilding need to be about fantasy and elves?"
Worldbuilding, as already stated above, and contrary to what many believe, does not inherently imply blatantly copying Tolkien. In fact, there are many science-fiction setting out there, and even entire alternative history settings which do not possess supernatural elements at all. Any kind of science fiction book has an implied setting at least, which involves a certain degree of worldbuilding put into it.

i have 1 (mostly) fantasy series, 1 historical fantasy series and 1 horror/noir series. i'm only actively working on the fantasy series at the moment but i'm always plotting or writing down notes for the other 2. the horror/noir thing is more of an idea i've been tinkering with since i got really interested in cults and was researching them. Heaven's Gate in particular was really interesting. they killed themselves and sent videos to their family members to tell them they'd done it. really heartbreaking stuff, but it always captured my imagination. i'm envisioning something between The Wicker Man and J-Horror like Ringu or The Grudge.

i did have this idea of doing a sci-fi series as a sort of spiritual successor to Star Fox seeing as Nintendo has done fuck all with it and the series hasn't had a good game in 20 years. but writing anthro characters is such a minefield. i find it interesting from a writing perspective but the culture that comes with it is unavoidable.

>>24876750
i've done a lot of fanfiction writing so it's easier for me to write in lived in worlds than empty ones. often times when i hit a brick wall it's because i don't have enough material to work off of so i take a break and flesh things out.

also watch Arabic ghost hunting videos (they call ghosts "djinns") they're amazing. when they see something creepy around a corner they don't cower in fear like the rest of the world, these motherfuckers shout GOD IS GREAT and charge at the ghost like a fucking linebacker. it has nothing to do with your request but it's great entertainment.

>This is true.
I've always seen people claim this but they never justify it. it doesn't seem to come from any examination of history or historiography. it seems more like a knee-jerk reaction than anything
>>
>>24964544
Let's say there was a historical dispute between two imams, one older and one with more islami knowledge. both want to lead the friday prayer.

but then, a person comes with a hadith that says "The person who is best versed in the recitation of the Book of Allah should lead the prayer; but if all those present are equally versed in it, then the one who has most knowledge of the Sunnah." which seems to vindicate the latter imam.

The question is: is the hadith fake?

Now if you say "of course, it certainly is" then you are clearly an idiot.

But if instead you claim it "most probably is" then how can you justify this? Especially since this is the exact situation, assuming the hadith was real, that it would be brought up.

All you're doing is guessing unless you look at the sources, ie. asking that guy where he got that hadith from. Which is exactly what hadith scholars do to a more scrutinizing degree.

Now it is the contention of some fraud scholars that all of classical hadith scholarship from Morocco to Tajikistan is in league to help the regime in some way (ignoring the fact that hadith scholars more often than not considered each other rivals, or that hadith scholars constantly fought with authorities throughout history) and would create a whole corpus across centuries, inventing a cast of characters to quote from etc.

This whole line of thinking is wrongheaded. If you want to "pleasure" a woman, you should make yourself into a large animal of a man then fuck the shit out of her with zero regard for anything but maximising the pleasure of your peepee. She will take care of the rest. You can certainly make a woman 'gasm by obsessing over how best to lick her pu$$y but it's not worth it. They don't even care about that.
