The funny thing is, I speak decent Japanese and have little issue with vowel length in it but I can't easily carry it over to Latin, it's like different phonologies are different "gears" I switch my mouth into and I can't just freely mix and match them.

latinfagging update. made it to chapter 14 of sallust's jugurthine war and i managed to do all of 13 in one sitting without killing myself. sallust likes putting conditionals within indirect speech which gets the tenses all fucked and i hate him for it but otherwise the grammar is getting easier. jugurtha did nothing wrong btw

>What is /wng/ — Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

>Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

>Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

Been putting off the next chapter because I was getting stumped, so now I'm coming back to it after a week of setting it aside. This is the opening sentence for it but it doesn't feel right. I aped it from a passage from Iliad, but I don't remember which page it was now. What do you guys think I could improve on with it?
It was dusk. The hospital ward was bathed with an auburn tint, as young Dawn’s vast and all-encompassing skirt settled down for the night.
Revising it as I wrote this poost:
Young Dawn retired for the night, her all-encompassing skirt no longer gracing the face of all of Fasnakyle. Twilight succeeded her, swallowing up without ease the auburn shades which gave the hospital ward complex its ripe filter.
>>
>>24743764

>>24743740

>ripe filter
is dumb
>>
>>24743740
very purple. 10x so for this being the web novel thread
try
>Dusk bathed the hospital ward with an auburn tint as the day came to a close.
that's the style of prose that's expected in pulpy fiction
or unironically even
>The hospital ward washed orange as dusk ended.

Getting more complex than that is reader poison

Also, how is "young Dawn's skirt settling down for the night" the same thing as "It was dusk, turning to twilight"? Am I retarded? Very possible

>>24743768
deleted because I had an error, but also on rereading, questioned the logic of the metaphor to begin with
anyway, he can write ornate prose if he wants but it definitely is VERY potent reader poison. and moreover, it is not 'fine' ornate prose, it is decidedly purple and not good if he's trying to be a flowery writer
>>
>>24743779
I could work with that, thanks. I'm doing my best to keep things anemic.

What a ridiculous cover. The paperback cover is a jpeg of a man weeping and staring at the camera lens.
This is precisely why I only purchase the oldest prints of books possible - often the first editions. Imagine having this horrific thing staring back at you from your bookshelf.

The hotel staff, I think, considers us useless freeloaders who have come to America – land of honest laborers with crewcuts – to eat them out of house and home. I know all about this. Everyone bitched about parasites in the USSR too, bullshitted about how you had to be useful to society. In Russia the people who bitched were the ones who worked least. I've been a writer for ten years now. It's not my fault that neither state needs my labor. I do my work – where's my money? Both states bullshit about the justice of their systems, but where's my money?

I find myself sympathetic to Tyler. Mormon cult parents, a homophobic society, autistic. And then you have a toxic fascist society that wants to feed him to the wolves.

What other stories are told from the perspective of those hated by an evil blood thirsty corrupt society. I’m aware of the Jesus and the New Testament gospels along with Grendel. Any other suggestions?

You enter reality is fake

Your entire worldview and reality is a lie. People are not god. You are not god. People do not control or determine reality. The people in power do not control or determine reality. People are not equal. People are not blank slates, people are not inherently good noble savages, people are not perfectible, people are not rational and rationally disconnected from their environment. There is no realm of higher purely rational thought disconnected from emotions and impulses. People and society cannot be improved through social engineering by leftist collage educated experts, managerial bureaucrats, or the state.
Progress is not inherent to reality. Reality is not entirely and fundamentally material. reality is not fundamentally dead but alive and consciousness and responsive and evolving. Reality is not fundamentally only literal. Reality is not fundamentally and only rational. Reality is not fundamentally disenchanted. The divine and spiritual is real. the meak are not more moral than the great, morality and greatness are two different dimensions of reality. Weakness and tolerance are not virtuous. Everything just is what it is. Reality is inherently mysterious. Self loathing is just as evil as hubris. Your entire worldview is just a rationalization for the ruling managerial class and the totalitarian state to gain ever increasing amounts of power and turn people into cogs. Your entire worldview is just lying and stealing and parasitism. Your entire worldview is just a way to deny reality and evade responsibility and remain immature and evil and not grow up and be virtuous and responsible and act like an actual fucking adult.

>Extremists exist. They are born due to the surrounding environment. You're born in war torn Iraq/Afghanistan/Syria due to invasions sponsored by Israel and white countries, what do you resort to? Extremism and violence. All Israel/USA had to do is set fuel to the fire through funding.
The Qu'ran explicitly calls for the killing of infidels and even the moderate Arab states punish "apostasy" by death. Islam is a pathetic excuse of a heresy and a desperately embarrassing lie that scourges men all across the planet.
>There are many other absurd stories worthy of laughter recorded in this writing, which he
insolently boasts descended upon him from God. But when we ask, “and who testified that God
has given him a scripture? And who among the prophets has announced that such a prophet
would rise up?” they are at a loss. We then relate to them how Moses received the law from God
who appeared on Mt. Sinai in the sight of all the people in a cloud and fire and darkness and a
whirlwind. We also relate to them that all the prophets, beginning with Moses and in succession,
foretold the coming of Christ. They also said that Christ is God, and that as the Son of God he
will come by taking on flesh, and that he will be crucified, and die, and rise again, and that he
will be the judge of the living and the dead. We ask them, then, “how is it that your prophet did
not come in this same way, with others witnessing about him? And how is it that God did not
give him the scripture, of which you speak, while in your presence, as God gave the law to
Moses on the smoking mountain while all the people were looking on, so that you may have

>My problem with Islam is that it is not satisfied with simply being an independent belief system: it has to try to retroactively attach itself with existing religions, while also ignoring the much longer histories of those traditions and the contradictions that arise from this attachment.
It does reduce Islam to one of the most obviously false religions in history. That counts for something, at least, making the goodhearted search for truth that much easier. It refutes itself. A follower of Islam in our age of information must be in the end a lover of lies.
