Ok, I promise to not complain about OM Workspace for at least a month. Today I learned that apparently Fujifags have to process images in-camera (and with the exact camera that shot the raw) if they want to get Fuji's own color science.

ty, had the vague idea a month before my trip and decided that I'd go for it. Not sure I could expand the concept too much beyond a thread (maybe a page on my website that I don't have?) or how I'd do a real life show with it but that'd be cool too.

I found item for sale on ebay, looks like the common and crappy canon18-55mm lens but there is a strange aperture where the front element should be, it doesn't look like a diy thing but factory made. I have never seen something like that, anyone knows that this might be? at first I thought it could be a display model but the description says it closes when the image stabilization is turned on.. makes it even more weird.
I'd buy it out of curiosity but it is in Canada

Out of all my shit, I feel like my x-pro2 + Fujicrons have been the most durable, held up to many drops from waist to chest height onto wood, concrete, dirt
I dropped a different body + bigger lenses from about chest height, but onto carpet, body and lens were totally fine but impacted enough to break the l-plate grip on it
Super right about shearing at the lens mount, from my repair days, breaking battery door was also super common

I definitely use edit history in PS, but I have never once ever missed having it in C1
If I like how something looks, I save the adjustments as a preset
If I want to thinker a bit, I just press F8 to make a copy and tinker away
Forget it's even a thing until I open up Darktable for a DT thread

How often are you all actually using edit history i a raw processor?
>>
>>4462619

What does this mean?
>my custom in-camera settings
They aren't baked in the RAW file, you'll have to take a few pictures, match the look, save it as a preset and then apply it to the RAWs you import.
>>4462632
You can do slight color shifts by changing the white balance on any raw converter, it works the same way every time.
You can also do by-color editing in both Lr and C1.
>>4462665
It's a fact that default settings result in different looks in each RAW converter.
That said, one picture's significantly brighter, so the user has done something, and such a big difference likely came from tweaking stuff (very) differently between the two.

I use C1, been using it since v10.
I was previously using Lr and decided to try out other options, then stayed with C1 for the massively more flexible color editor and mask workflow.
At some point an acquaintance was doing tethered work using Lr and, out of curiosity, I took some time to compare Lr's and C1's tethering capabilities.
It wasn't even a competition, I really can't imagine what Lr was doing to be that slow but C1 was three to four times as fast to show a new picture after it was shot, plus it offered the option to control the camera settings in real time and had a live view window.
I believe Lr has improved over the years, and I liked C1 better when the HDR tool only had a "Highlights" and a "Shadows" sliders instead of the four White/Highlights/Shadows/Blacks it has now, which it has copied from Lr, but C1 has also improved in terms of performance, masking tools, face editing features, what have you.
If only the engineers at Panasonic hadn't made it impossible to tether the S1 with a raw converter, C1 would have everything I need (but I can still shot tethered thanks to C1's hot folders or however they're called, only I have to pass through Panasonic's own tethering software).
>>4465161
I have a catalog to which I add pictures taken a few at a time and that don't need much organization, like if I'm trying out something or taking two pictures of the moon.
Every other project/shoot/session/job gets its new, very own session.

This is my setup for scanning slides. The backlight uses the RGB trick, it's an LED strip which I cut up and arranged in a matrix, then used a diffuser film from an old LCD monitor and a bit of acrylic.
Since it's single slides, I just decapsulate the film and this little magnet clamp/holder thingy I printed in PLA holds the edges flat which works well enough.
The camera bracket is PETG and braces the lens which means I don't have to faff around with yaw adjustment.
I used a Pi to control a little bluetooth remote. The Sony has a built in FTP upload which is super useful.
Everything else is aliexpress tat, but it's all straight enough to not be a concern.

Since I don't actually shoot film and this was just for archiving family stuff, it's all kind of disposable

Then this is my ridiculous machine based on a 3D printer board that blows through whole carts of slides at a time. Same lens/camera/backlight as before though.
For this one, it's a Pi again, but I used tethering instead as there's a webcam in there for capturing the front of the slides at the same time for automated labelling. libgphoto worked but was a bit flaky (once it started working, everything was fine as long as I didn't touch any menus in the camera)

I forgot to mention the lens: Sony 50mm macro. It's a really good macro lens, but it's not a great prime because the electronic focus is so slow

And finally, this stupid lil' guy. I think an apt name would be film destroyer 9000. I need to return to this as I do have a lot of negatives to scan. It's more of a prototype of what became the slide scanner.
Important things to learn from this:
- Horizontal mounting of the camera is bad because even if your mount is very firm, it seems like the internal lens elements have a bit of sag or something that causes pitch to be an issue. This wasn't as much of a problem for the slide scanner as that was all done at a much smaller aperture.
- The backlight is basically the same except I used WS2811 addressable LED strip, it turns out these chips start behaving oddly when they warm up which meant calibrating the channels was a huge PITA.
- I used a Pi to control the stepper. This was what caused any damage to the film as the software-controlled stepping was too rough.
- Adjusting the focus by screw rail is much easer than using the lens ring.

I got my copy too and honestly kinda disappointed. I wanted a sequence of high quality prints maybe with some text describing what's going on but instead I got a few prints with a ton of pretentious bullshit to pad it out. The printing doesn't seem that great, the colors are dark and muddy with an odd blue cast, on very thin delicate yellow paper with a weird texture that hides detail. It does look unusual and expensive I'll give you that.

Do any of yall know any other film cameras than the gen 3 Polaroid i have and possibly some tips for taking better pictures than these.

Even though polaroids are the biggest instant format available, they are still tiny. Only shoot subjects that fill almost the entire frame and where detail is not fundamental (e.g. a single, well framed object or a portrait)

Anyway, you have a gen 3 polaroid which even has manual controls through the app and you already ask for another camera even though your photos suck ass compositionally. You are a loser worthless gearfag

Why are photography YouTubers so shit? They mostly churn out boring nontent while dressing like a copy of a copy of a copy of someone who thought he might closet cosplay Ansel Adams. Who are they aping?
Almost all have the cadence and tone of a best buy sales associate either slowly conniving a golden HDMI cable sale or postponing their suicide on a Sunday evening only since their parents are still alive; with no in-between.
I meet smarter and more interesting people IRL at camera club or local stores, so it's not as if this hobby is exclusively for people prescribed Klonopin and SSRIs.
Half of them are just talking head slop direct to camera talking about what gear to buy (micro four nerds)
The ones that do teardowns and repairs of gear are usually fine, but those aren't exactly photo videos at that point.

The only guy that does the "video of taking photos" thing I can stand is Nick LoPresti since he doesn't talk like he's constipated, but lately the lack of constipation has become a problem since he's been diarrhea-shitting up my sub box with low-effort commentary videos sitting in front of a green screen. Idk who he's aping there, 2016 twitch? Don't like it, especially one where he and his wife are politisperging about shit like how "they can't use Google search for inane things because it'll track you" for what feels like several minutes.

Snappiness may be my second favorite even though he looks and talks like a queer (he has kids so I guess he isn't technically). At least he does ridiculous things with cameras that are more interesting than "I walked and took a photo of something and had some ennui about it".

Also, I hate gxAce with a passion, dead horse of a gimmick beaten into dust at this point. 80% of his videos serve no purpose to the modal viewer since they're just a rain-dance to the corporate marketing teams to get them to send him gear. (Also combining sloppy wet deep-throat glazing prose with an aloof tone is uniquely excruciating to listen to.)
