It's a surface only rec players and Europeans can really play on tbqh. American big hitting, aggressive tennis is so ass for it, even on the much grittier Har-Tru. You'd have to have an American junior player grow up learning how to hit on both clay and hard. That's not very common here. Also, isn't this the first year Houston used European red clay? I recall it being green in past years.

Austrians have a hard time accepting this. But their national pride is all the more necessary to keep the act going. They have the House of Habsburg, Mozart and Haydn, and so on. It's partially retroactively constructed, but a lot of great things did happen in what is now Austria, and they are right to be proud of that. Personally, I'd just wish for them to say the rest out loud, that being: it's all German. This doesn't take anything away from Austria, far from it
