The problem they have is trying to do PSR and SCR at the same time because you need to sell academy players to stay in PSR. SCR is taking over and you want as many players on cheap fees or second contracts as possible. Selling for a huge amount and reinvesting the money is terrible with SCR. If you look, they’ve given half a dozen players this season a new contract so they’ll be in as good of an SCR position as possible.
>>
>Van Dijk usually speaks with the media after a game as part of his duties as Liverpool captain. Saturday was different, however. His voice was much louder – so loud that any teammate in the Anfield tunnel could hear him – and he shook with anger while challenging the dressing room to respond. “You should be angry,” he insisted. “The main thing for me is that everyone has to take responsibility.” Asked whether that is happening, Van Dijk replied: “I don’t know. But you have to do that. It’s the main thing I want the boys to do. It’s not easy during difficult times but we have to do it if we want to get out of this.”

Cant help but to feel we are cursed on the no.9 position. Had Newcastle signed Sesko and we ended up with Woltemade, Sesko would be on 8/9 goals and we'd be saying Woltemade was a waste of money!

Blame lack of confidence, fitness or physicality but every player coming into the PL is told that you do not get time on the ball to dwell even less so in pen box...but looks like Sesko didnt get the memo!

Yeah but they were already at that number for this season because UEFA has a 70% rule that’s being phased in. The fact that the rules pull you in complete opposite directions is the main thing that has been stifling Villa and Newcastle. Villa have bet on SCR taking over and Newcastle have focused only on PSR so they’ll be one to watch. Players that cost a large fee should be easy to get from non big 6 teams now if you match what they paid. Tonali, Onana, Woltemade etc will have triple the “cap hit” of Tielemans and Guimaraes.

They dropped points against a mediocre Liverpool and mediocre City side and a decent Sunderland side. It's not out of the realm of possibility that they'll drop points against unlikely opposition again. City have been down this road so many times that's it's laughable. All it takes is a couple more injuries for Arsenal and they'll struggle again like last season.

>>152110631
>>152110659
Sorry lads, I don't quite understand why this would pull clubs in opposite directions. Is the "problem" that PSR would let you give players ridiculously high wages and fuck off long contracts but SCR restricts that to a one year income limit so it drastically lowers your paying capacity basically?

If you are in PSR trouble you sell Rogers. Now you’ve got to spend the money or your team is weaker. If you spend the money you are now in SCR trouble because you aren’t allowed to spend that much. Keeping Rogers is now financially viable. You can replace Rogers name with Eze, Semenyo or Ndiaye.

Yeah, Onana and Tielemans are on similar wages but Tielemans “costs” 7.8m a year in wages and Onana “costs” 17.8m because they pay 10m a year for him in transfer fee too. PSR asks you to sell Tielemans. Glad you can see why they conflict.

How are (You) emotionally preparing yourself for a potential, and increasingly likely, Arsenal title win?
>>
>>152112178
It is all to if they bottle it now. Sure it is still only 6 points and they go on a bad run and they could drop away. You can't see it and no one else is looking that good compared to them. So if they extend that lead to over 10 points then it is going to have to be bottle jobs Arsenal or they will win. Arsenal probably will even sacrifice the CL in exchange for continue winning in the PL.

Sorry, I'm confused again. Why Tielemans? Wouldn't either be fine? Assuming that they both fetch a similar price that is. Cause the 10m they'll still have to pay for whatever club they bought Onana from, right? Everton iirc. So either way wouldn't it still only be 7.8m off the books? I don't see the conflict in this particular example I'm afraid.

>>152112178
Yeah it's only a 2 game deficit. That's nothing imo. I don't know, I think I just trust City more to get over the line.

>>
Thomas Frank thoughts?
>>
>>152112556
It’s 10m to Everton and 8m to Onana. Whereas it’s 0m to Leicester and 8m to Tielemans. If you sell Tielemans you need to buy another guy that would then be 10m plus 8m. So you end up putting yourself in a worse spot. The money you get for the player is gone after 1 season instead of a 3 year window.

United still a very long way off. Still too many poor players, which is evident from recent games once we've made subs and we become worse. It happened yesterday, against Brighton, and Liverpool. The likes of Dorgu, Zirkzee, Ugarte are just pointless, especially Ugarte, who should be embarrassed that Casemiro, whose legs are gone, is a better option than him. We still need a couple of wing-backs, 2-3 centre-mids, 1-2 centre-backs, 1-2 strikers.

>>
i know this is now just revisionist history and hindsight 20/20 yadda yadda and isak may dominate the next few seasons...
but ekitike looks really solid i am really wondering why they thought they needed both, feel like getting ekitike and using that money elsewhere would have been more beneficial
maybe the plan is once salah is gone they play ekitike and isak together like a 4-4-2? just feels weird to me overall
>>
>>152120874
Getting Isak to burn all his bridges at Newcastle should have been enough when they saw Ekitike succeeding
>>
>>152120917
part of me wonders whether they felt like they had to commit to isak after he burnt all the bridges despite getting ekitike, but the liverpool ownership group has always been all about taking advantage of "market opportunities" or whatever, i guess they thought they could get isak they were gonna do it no matter what, even with ekitike coming in
but like i said i don't really get the long term vision formation wise

Nope, unless you're saying John Terry is the best defender in the Prem since his Chelsea side conceded the fewest amount of goals in a PL season
>>
>>152130317
You're right then, Wolves could have the best defender in the league in that case since goals conceded do not matter apparently.
>>
>>152130317
I think most people would have him comfortably in the top 3 best defenders of the PL era yeah
>>
If Liverpool didn't score those lucky late winners in their opening 4 games they would currently be sat in 19th

Only £500M spent in the summer mind you. Major investment needed in January.
>>
>>152130350
Word is that Carragher on MNF tonight will be going over these lucky winners and also the extremely fortunate calls they've had go in their favour in every single PL match. What a top pundit!
>>
>>152130270
Well no
Jonathan Woodgate was the best defender in the league in 03/04, but unfortunately he had to play alongside Titus Bramble so Newcastle still conceded loads.
>>
>>152130360
Can't wait to see how he frames it as Sunderland having the worst weekend
>>
>>152130348
I mean if they had the Premier League's greatest ever right back, Paulo Ferreira, on their team then yeah
>>
If City won more games, they'd be 1st.
>>
If United weren't a banter club, they'd win the league.
Just a couple more years.

That's what I heard too and I couldn't figure out why. I admit, I am approaching this from the angle of "oh, the Bundesliga, that's easier than the PL" but I know realistically it's not that simple. Even Mane struggled for you guys iirc, right? Speaking of, can you believe this is Mane's third season in Saudi already? Feels weird.
