>Join open table night for 5E>Playing a monster expert ranger>combat starts >pull out monster manual and read the stats >DM accuses me of meta gaming This is a DM skill issue right? It’s a roleplaying GAME. Why is he upset that I’m just using all the tools of the game to be a better player
>>97818555Its fine to do as long as you're okay with the gm doing everything they can to win.
>>97818555>5eFound the problem
>>97820340knowing about what kinds of monsters and creatures are out there (especially ones that aren't specific individuals) is not the fucking same as knowing exact layouts and secrets of specific places and how NPCs will act
>>97821181Maps exist. People research other people. Knowing how somebody will react and what their weaknesses is exactly how spies work
>>97820328All monsters have a label that floats above their head listing their type, level and faction anon.
I always hear about the stir this caused, and recently about how bad or redeemable it is. I'm not certain about it myself because I dabbled with 3e and then got into 5e, never paid much attention to the scene during that entire era. What does /tg/ think of the system?
>>97819548No, for DMs. 4E is extremely DM friendly.
>>97820725The 4e haters will never admit this. NEVER. 4e is the apocalypse, the beginning of woke along with an emphasis on freakshit, plus WoW advancement assessment adjacent play functions means they can never be unbiased about this edition. It's part of their personality now. D&D is hated here, much less the most divisive edition.
>>97780412I play it with measuring tapes and minus and it works just fine.
>>97819390You are welcome.>>97819423I am unfamiliar with this build, and I have seen my share of absolutely wacky paragon-tier builds. What is it?
>>97819387It was almost impossible to actually just bullshit things together in 4e unless you had a good understanding of what worked and why it worked. You couldn't, say, forget how bloody it worked or just fudge grabbing because it was incredibly important how those actually functioned. The vast majority of tables running other editions basically only remember a handful of core mechanics, and that's okay because the game is basically barely designed past that. andNot only that, it's really hard to Homebrew for 4e. If you want to make a new bullshit class in other versions, you probably can and nobody will notice too much if it's really good or really bad unless they are good at the game. In 4th edition, it will be incredibly obvious that you don't get how the game works if you just slap dash things that sound good together.
Am I supposed to learn how to play every deck to get good at this game?
>>97815281If you're playing meta then no, you can just learn the chokepoints for meta decks and whatever rogue deck is a bad matchup for you. If you'r eplaying a rogue deck yourself, yes, you need a deep understanding of how to better interact with each deck, since your options on how to interact are more limited and less powerful. What people don't get is that, while playing rogue cheap decks is a reward for mastery over the game, even meta deck players still need to play the fucking game to get good.Yugioh is pay to play but not pay to win like scrubs would have you believe. Meta decks will be more powerful, but buying one doesn't mean winning, there's no shortcut to winning.>>97815305>>97816564>t. bought 3 structure decks and got rekt in locals
>>97815281You are supposed to learn that this game is dead for 25 years and it's a skinwalker puppet ever since
>>97815281no, but you should have a functional knowledge of older and newer cards, at least enough to understand what's possible when you build a deck. remember you only get 40 cards, so getting ones that work well with each other is important
>>97821418>t. coping that his epic rogue deck only loses every time because he hasn't properly "mastered" the matchup (re: learned his solitaire route)
Its competitive solitaire. Just lock out your opponent until you get your ohko in 2 turns.

>>97818695I like the subtext that stillstorm, from taben, who lost one of her daughters in a previous battle, decided to send Talon away from the fleet. Ostensibly so she can train some new pilots, but if you notice talon has the same hair and eye color as stillstorm.. meaning talon probably resembles her late daughter.
>>97818876But she also sent Spiral, who doesn't.
>>97819309How else would she transfer the diral-seii? By post?
>>97815377I like how the Umiak bridge is vaguely retrofuturistic, especially with the monitors embedded in the walls compared to the floating displays of the Loroi.>>97818876A lot of the similarities might just be general features shared by their ethnic group like having a sharper nose, being skinny etc.
>>97821058>A lot of the similarities might just be general features shared by their ethnic group like having a sharper nose, being skinny etc.Which probably remind Stillstorm of her homeworld. She is old by wartime Loroi standards, and has seen generations of warriors die. She probably experiences some form of survivors guilt when she sees another interceptor squadron almost die to the last Loroi, especially one from her homeworld.
I'm not much of a theorycrafter DM. I'm more of an action DM. I'll discuss build options all day with a player as I'm actually good at it but I'm ready to get playing ASAP. What about you guys?
>>97821401"Theorycrafting" was always cancer to me. I play loose with the rules on purpose just to fuck with autists with "perfect" builds. It's a ROLEPLAYING game, not a spreadsheet simulator.
>>97821859You don't even need to do that, just have encounters not happen in an empty room
I'll start>D&D 5E is a heroic fantasy game (I didn't say good), trying to do anything else should have you using a different system.
>>97821711>Massive tomeYeah, I guess having two 300+ books is so much better than a single, <250 pages book
>>97811115Even by this criteria, Risus is still a better newbie game than 5e, because 5e is just as much just a resolution mechanic and character creation, but it takes a shitload more page count to do it than Risus does.
>>97801119Here's one: while the long campaign is a noble goal and probably the ideal way to game, most tables should probably be focusing on shorter campaigns (like the 3-8 session range), and one shots, especially starting out.
>>97821809Got no argument with this one. Actually seems sensible and not bait.
>>97820170True!

You're emulating the idea of a character rather than reinterpreting it, in the same way a cargo cult makes a radar dish out of straw. >you are extremely mentally weak, and can't decide or distinguish on your ownWhat a bizzare accusation for you to make when you are advocating for a machine that thinks for you? Especially against me, someone saying they do everything manually. Im lazy and weak willed for... working harder? Because i want a higher quality result, even if it takes longer to achieve? okay bro>just follow artists on twitterIm not retarded so i dont have a twitter. Also thats not helpful for searching by art style, medium or content, and artstation is a bit of a mess that more often than not doesnt have the thing im reverse-searching. Call it a skill issue if you like, but it doesnt change the fact that our lives are now harder, not easier. Its an admission of failure that the technology has tangibly made every site you listed worse

>>97821769>No, by refusing contact with intentional media you deny yourself purpose in the first place. You're emulating the idea of a character rather than reinterpreting it, in the same way a cargo cult makes a radar dish out of straw.um no, purpose comes from the person, the ai emulates, the person uses it with purpose>What a bizzare accusation for you to make when you are advocating for a machine that thinks for you?this is your projection, i'm saying it's possible to use ai without allowing it to think for you yet you seem convinced that it's impossible, so the point stands>Also thats not helpful for searching by art style, medium or content, yes it is, you just follow a bunch of artists and filter out recommendations, then you have the art you want and never see ai art on it>it doesnt change the fact that our lives are now harder, not easierspeak for yourself, the adage that it's the fate of the stupid to have difficult lives applies to you pretty well here
I used AI to generate character tokens for an online game I had to prepare in less than 6 hours on a laptop where I didn't have my folder of saved character art. It did its job, the results were lame, didn't really matter.
Is there ANY miniature wargame that isn't insanely expensive? I'm talking about things you can buy in a box and play immediately, not "print your own minis" bullshit or things where you're forced to use proxies cause official models don't exist.
>>97814849You forgot one factor. Both the Beginner Box and Essentials comes with a paper code that gives you $20 for free for their store. It's only a one time thing so you can't repeat it or even get one from the other box, but that free $20 makes the beginner box a far better deal.>>97817532They've already revealed the changes and its functionally some stuff getting moved up to Advanced, some stuff moving down to Standard, a couple things getting errata'd.
>>97812390All hobbies should be free. Charging players to play your game is theft.
Blood and Plunder has a pretty good starter set.
>>97821224Especially when you don't actually want to arbitrate rules because "Math HARD," so 40 bucks for a hardcover book that just tells you "I dunno, figure it out for yourself" is asking a lot, especially after enshitifying the art...
