I don't have an ex-wife. Not sure where you got that idea

We're going to have to come up with a phrase for the new era of Warhammer 40,000 ushered in by the Amazon TV show, DoW 4 and Total War 40k, and increased market value of Games Workshop.

nu40k isn't going to cover it. nu40k is already bad enough for many of us from headier days like 1st through 4th edition. You are going to see horrific debasements to the thing you know and love that you will still see with your eyes closed. Every 80 IQ person with internet access will have an opinion on Warhammer without knowing what a Tau Remora Drone is.

The problem with an IG show is the inevitable turn into non military slob to attract the female market, not to mention the mandatory Commissar killing guardsmen.
Althought if they take it seriously, which they won't, and make it like Combat! or Tour of Duty, it might be worth watching. Plus there's pretty much Cadians and Cathachan left as 'official' Regiments, Death Korps are just clones made to fight and die and who will make a show about soldiers who ever show their faces all the time for real?
>>

The Inquisition is perfect because it's small in scale and the roles and attitudes of its members are extremely varied. An Ordo Hereticus guy is quite likely to be the sort of "a plea of innocence is guilty of wasting my time" stereotype who ends up callously putting civilians to death on the regular, but an Ordo Xenos guy is focused on protecting people from all sorts of genuinely monstrous and horrifying alien nasties and doesn't care if people aren't being perfect little pious drones. Inquisitorial retinues can also have down-to-earth soldiers rubbing shoulders with eccentric weirdos so you get the whole breadth of the Imperium in a convenient little band of protagonists, and Inquisitors roll around interacting with every strata of Imperial society from the poor wretches in the underhives to planetary governors to the Admech on their forge worlds, so the writer/director has the freedom to do basically whatever he wants and there will always be a convenient, easy, lore friendly explanation for it.

Return of the Jidonians (a clear homage to Star Wars)
An all black-human, female led craftworld named Jidonia has finally returned to Terra to aid in the growing Xenos threat caused by the Tyranids. They must aid Titus and help him learn from his mistakes and also begin to raise valid questions about religious devotion to the Emperor and offering a way of life void of dedication. It will ignore all previous lore and instead the Emperor will just be a tyrannical leader who has enslaved mankind. The warp will be renamed something gay like “the undimension” and closing it off will end the threats with no other bad things. The emperor is still kinda alive and well in an ethereal form and can still manipulate things despite everyone thinking he’s just a skeleton on life support. He keeps the warp open because maintaining the strife keeps him him in power as a god and he absolutely LOVES being viewed as a god. The Jidarians will be equipped with las-pistols and multi-colored las-swords.

The initial Jidonian was rescued as a child by a Harlequin and raised by them so they have incredible acrobatic skills. The Harlequin’s name her “Jidon” because it means “fearless, powerful leader” or something. The Harlequins hijack an imperial vessel and the said human is placed in charge. This is the creation of Jidonia.

I have no fucking idea what is going on, this is a S4U, I have checked it is leveled to the tabe, default settings (lychee) for my resin, all screws are tight, nothing is moving during print time.
Is my printer just fucking cursed and trying to print a demon?
>>

First, did you only print that one model? If yes, your leveling and everything with burn in layers is fine. If some stuff did not get printed, try the manual level app in the printer.
This looks like it could be the anti alias bug.

The motherboard has a problem with too many grey pixels in the same line, and moving from 9k to 16k enlarged the danger of that.

around 5 years. i started it shortly after my exposure to the culture war, which was around 2019. the game at this point shares very little with the first iteration. the main thing it still shares is that it uses memes for pictures, but that's about it. that's also another reason the name has changed, because it's a different game. i have also changed a lot over those 5 years, unrecognizably in some areas. i'd hope that most people who been on this ride since normie season ended 2015ish (w/ trump) have also changed a lot.

Yeah I actually like those KS better than the previous resculpts, my only gripe is the two shotguns. Do people even run BS zombies at all, let alone two? I hope at least one of them has a chain rifle variant like the OG box.
Also, do I spy a return to 4-model unified boxes instead of mixed soup repacks?
>>
>>97360878
>Are they holding up metal models?
Nothing bigger than S3 has been metal for years. First they switched over to Siocast, and then the S6 and S7 models switched to Unicool.
>>
>>97360977
Could probably be doable to replace with a resin-printed chain rifle if needed.
>>
>>97360977
I agree these are better than the previous especially since none of these are in dumb running poses with their helmet raised. Just surprised since the models aren't that old. More surprised by the Ariadna support pack resculpt.
>two shotguns
been awhile since I took a look at this game. Aren't shotguns just DTWs now? What would be the point of having Chain rifles and shotguns in the same unit.
>Also, do I spy a return to 4-model unified boxes instead of mixed soup repacks?
That would be good news, but it might just be because Kuang shi are just known to be spammed.

>Ah okay. That makes sense. So are unicool used in more than just ITS minis now?
Yes. If you look on the store, when in the product description it says "thermoplastic" it's siocast, "plastic resin" it's unicool

Hey there

I've decided to start a West Marches-style campaign on my LGS. It sounds the perfect style to run for a public setting w/ rotating players, but I myself have never DMed one

Any experiences, tips and advices regarding DM-ing/playing West Marches style games?

Or general tips for running games on LGS ?

For those unfamiliar with West Marches style, here is what google have to say about it:
>Player-Driven Exploration: Players decide where to go and what to explore, venturing into unknown territory from a safe starting town.
>Rotating Cast: A large pool of players participates, but different combinations of adventurers form parties for each session, preventing the need for a single regular group.
>Sandbox World: The world is a sandbox, with the map and plot emerging as players discover new locations and rumors, rather than being dictated by the GM.
>No Fixed Schedule: Sessions occur when players organize themselves, often on a voluntary basis.
>Low GM Prep: The Game Master (GM) focuses on creating a world and potential encounters, responding to player choices, rather than crafting complex plots.
>Self-Contained Sessions: Adventures are often designed to be resolved in a single session, with storylines evolving over time.

Color scheme looks shitty, but I've been testing the map generation procedure in hand (plus, getting familiar with it - the hex copy feature is still a bit harder to remember the directions)
>>
>>97355767
I think you should abandon the idea and just start with the camp with some rumours. Having your first session be set up differently than the rest of it just seems strange, especially because so few of the players will actually get to experience it.
However, if you do stick with this and want to avoid quantum ogres, I would let them make a choice but give them very strong indicators that one direction likely has more shipwreck and maybe more people, while the other direction is complete wilderness. Otherwise having them choose to go north vs south is a meaningless choice anyway.
>>97355904
This feels a little strange to do. I could imagine a new player being put off by "hey this one dude already has gotten to explore the world a little bit with my friends, a group that you'll never meet". Also I think having some people that are part of the campaign but who never meet or interact with any of the other people might also feel odd, as I imagine that ideally everyone in the LGS group would end up at least get acquainted with everyone else. Having a separate group completely disconnected from that would be weird. I don't think it's a huge deal though if you really want to do it

>I think you should abandon the idea and just start with the camp with some rumours
I'm leaning towards dropping it, because besides the arguments you made, I also try to remember myself TTRPG sessions are a scarce resource... and we never know how long a campaign is going to last. An introduction session out of a 50+ sessions campaign is fine, but out of a 4~6 sessions campaign is a bit waste of time. Especially given that the core concept is exploration, and that would effectively be 1 less session to explore

On the other hand, an upside would be that would be narratively fit and that would give players a more "guided" first session before letting them loose on the openness of the sandbox style

>give them very strong indicators that one direction likely has more shipwreck
Naturally. My idea for this would be that, since they took a longboat to escape the sinking ship, and the longboat is smaller/lighter, the waves carried it further away. Thus, if the main ship found land, it would be towards the direction they came (which is something I would point out upon any simple inquiry)

But then again, I might drop the idea entirely

>This feels a little strange to do. I could imagine a new player being put off
Yes, its unusual from the standard form of play, but I figured it could be healthy to introduce those early on since all those aspects are part of the West Marches style - players might not be on the same level, and not all people might meet. It would also push the discovery aspect further/faster. That would also put me around 10+ players right from the get-go

Having the 1 guy experience both groups was the way I found to tie the groups together - nevertheless, I'm still leaning heavily on having the first "official" session be the LGS one, so likely map discoveries from my test group (and perhaps even experience points) won't count during the test session. They could also all TPK, or simply not be that interested in keep playing

...cont

Having another parallel group can also lead to interesting things:
>More organic* rumors for players to investigate
>More eagerness to be the "first" to do things/discover places/etc
>The world would feel more alive/less centered on the players (again, a WM trademark)
At end of day, I feel like the concept of having a parallel group playing on the same world is in itself a different gimmick that can be tons of fun. To know there's more people out there experience that world, and that the things you do on your session affects the world even beyond your group

Though in my mind, the LGS group would be the "official" group, and I would probably limit my friends to a 1/month session, or 2 tops (LGS is scheduled to be every other week). I would also occasionally invite my friends to the LGS group to have more interconnection between the groups

But in the end of day, the aspect of having the LGS as the "official" group is important to me, which is why I might reset the map after the test session and start fresh for next week's first "official" session

Seeing space marines without big shoulder pads and stompy boots makes me irrationally angry
>>
>>97360601
The most anoying part is not just the armour design, is the absolutely lack of care for the SM concept, and the prostitution of the brand adding more and more slightly different marine types with overlapping roles.
Regular marines are the universal soldiers, they should be able to do almost everything in a decent way.
Now there are 3+ types of phobos plus original scouts. God knows how many different types of range marines all with the same gun like eldars, as many heavy and jetpack marines plus terminators.
The bloat is endless.
>>
>>97360810
I think the Primaspect Warrior approach is too deeply embedded to go away by this point but at least GW seems to be slowly reintroducing/refreshing the pre-Primaris elements of the army, I wouldn't be surprised if we see new Tactical and Devastator squads in the near-ish future. If those get updated the range will have everything you need to make an old-style Marine army with entirely new/current units.

I'm really not looking forwards to the Rhino chassis vehicles being inevitably squatted though, they look miles better than their Primaris replacements.

Anyone else give sentience/personality to their powers. My Jumper initially went throught generic cyoa and chose worm cyoa v1. Then he picked the beefed up triumvirate options of Alexandria, Legend and Eidolon. naturally he also picked the perks of shattered limiter, blank, invictus and inspiration. However had some leftover points and got power manipulation. He used PM to copy the siberian projection power and made some modifications to it and inserted the power into his eidolon powerset. He correctly assumed that the predictive nature of the eidolon power implied an intelligence and she became a companion for him. She now tends to pretty much any need or desire no matter how small.

>>She will ,via precognition, slot a power for any little desire no matter how unneeded it might be. His alexandria package removes need for sustenance but he might have an appetite so eidolon will slot a food creation power but instead of having to use it himself her projection will do it.

J. Jonah Jameson. I consider his entire crusade against Spider-Man one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen in my life.

Is it better to have fully anthropomorphic beast people in your settings or just humans with like animal ears and tails?

That's retarded. Like getting rid of female characters because some people can get weird about them.

If you didn't care for bestiality why do they need the animal parts in the first place instead of just being human or elf-like?

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

This is an extremely pedantic reply that is ignoring the spirit of what I'm asking.
Generally I agree with you.
But I'm not asking about how you would run a game, I'm asking about what you as a human and a DM prefer to run, something that is either generally shallow yet broad, or narrow yet deep

And may you have twice the number

Odd distinction. By and large, DMs run what they prefer to run. Why DM, otherwise?

I'm with the other anon that this is a very odd and artificial distinction. Everything starts off narrow and shallow when you begin prep, and you fill things out from there. They grow less shallow or less narrow as needs be, and you'll eventually have a wide variety of environments in a range of depth and width.
There's no hard line between one and the other.

And I don't give enough of a shit about the meta structure of it to have a preference one way or the other as a player or as a DM.
I'm less interested in whether dungeon A is shallow/wide while B is deep/narrow than I am that Dungeon A might have humanoid factions players can interact with, but most of the treasure is art-based stuff that will require time and men to remove and carry off, while dungeon B has easily ported coins, but is full of nasty undead. That's a more interesting kind of distinction, on both sides of the screen.

The TMNT ruleset is based off the traveler one, so it is not the worst conversion in the world. I just was mainly gonna use it for inspiration for mutations and see if it had any relevant charts.

Could you elaborate a bit without spoilers if possible?
>>
>>97361062
In the early books there are multiple opportunities for the more nerdy aligned character to shine, and it does not completely fall off even in the later books either.
Dark Tapestry related stuff is more of a background theme for the early books unless you consider things like undead related to that.
For the Time related stuff it it hard to say anything without spoiling, but it comes up very late fully.

What would your informed opinion be? On regards of playing a character like that? Considering the team currently.
>>
>>97361269
Well, to me it seems that you will end up in healer/support role. And the party seems to be lacking a character able to cast Haste, for which Speed or Slow Time (Sp) from Time mystery should be helpful. Though you can get it also with Arcane Archivist (Su) from Lore.
It is bit of a cointoss, but I'm leaning towards Time because if you think your group actually manages to get all the way to late books, the Time should be extremely satisfactory if your GM knows how to play it out for you.

I was initially leaning towards DT, but Time Wizards are always intriguing. Looking at the suggested mysteries, I felt Time was heavier on the team support.
I have faith in our GM on playing things out story wise.
