No faggot.
GW can and should be better at this by now.
GW has been writing rules for 30 fucking years, yet they write rules like its their first time making a fucking board game.

It's a Palladium system game, so it's janky as fuck. Palladium TMNT is ancient and weird and from an era when we still hadn't fully worked out "balance" and "ease of handling" as system concepts. Balance was for chess and ease of handling was for cards.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

eh, im really only interested in the archers anyways
>>
>>97370166
Yeah.
There are some other considerations at the margins. For example if the unit is 26 or more models, you need to be 6 wide, 37 or more models 7 wide. You'd be in March formation again due to shape otherwise.
Also which units your using. Gors should essentially always be 7 wide (other than pure maneuverability) because they have no armor (5+ with shield is the same as no save, don't kid yourself).
Otherwise yes, you got it right
>>
>>97370229
I think the units im referring to are like your Gors, orc boyz. Though I think they are cheaper.
>>
>>97370009
Cathay must be GW's masterpiece of sales at this point. Release 8 units, encouraging spamming of the most busted and most expensive units to the extent it breaks tournament play, then errata it immediately before releasing the rest of the units forcing players to buy the next box. In 40k there'd be outrage already.
>>
>>97370009
only thing im worried about are the crane gunner since they mentioned they would be able to "snipe characters". dont know what that means but hero sniping is always lame. I propably wont use them this turns out to be true.
But Im really looking forward to the wizard, peasant mob/archers and iron hail gunner.

I also think its a pretty cool detail that the peasants champion seem to be a retired jade warrior veteran.

I bought it a year ago and haven't even tried it. Base FCM has a lot of game packed in so I still don't find necessary to add more to it. That said, all the modules let you customize aspects you might not like from the game through interesting game mechanics, I wouldn't say any of the 17 or so modules it comes with to be bad or irrelevant, they all hit different aspects of the game that heighten, switch up, or even nerf elements you decide, like Coffee being a great solution to a dominant demand, price wars and game lenght, or roads giving you the chance of changing the landscape, even minor things like movie stars can create interesting scenarios even if nobody takes them just from being available.
>>
>>97369851
upgrades are limited by action economy, yes, but big ships have more upgrade space, and lodsa computers + lodsa cannons + lodsa hull = more than the sum of the parts. plus, building is limited by action economy too, it takes one action to make 2 dreadnaught class ships and it takes one action to make 2 interceptors. and also, the ships are limited in number too, only 2 dreadnaughts, 4 cruisers, and 8 interceptors, total, so if you upgrade only one that's half or more of your potential max fleet that stays useless into the late game.
but in the end it's all about which one is the right one for your gameplan and which counter your opponent's defences. like many things in life, "it depends" is the only right answer

Every once in a while there's a thread popping up about how badass and stronger 40k's setting is, but big time professional question ironically raised by an autistic friend of mine at the pub yesterday:
Could the Imperium sucessfully afford to invade and take over Kirby's planet?
7 replies and 2 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>97369816
Kirby can eat metaphysical concepts like health bars.
>>
>>97369816
His height is generally variable depending on what the games need so let's keep it going by Samus' height
>>
>>97369858
His height in smash is about 3 feet, a little under a meter to the bongs. I think he'd win if he was 3 feet and could suck of spess mahreens etc.

>>97369838
Only sometimes.
>>
>>97368794
You forgot Anshinin, Featherine, Shurouga sin and Ideon.
>>97368814
He would if Rogers stole his cake (or if Dedede did and blamed Rogers).
>>97369816
He can eat larger enemies, shit, he could effortlessly gobble up a truck. Maybe Waddle-dees are just way stronger than you give them credit for.
I think most of what limits his ability to eat things up is his motivation and/or popstar and adjacent realities having weird physics, where a soda machine can blow up walls of metal by shooting cans where volcanic fire can't do the same. He can, for instance, summon at will, a star to go way over Sonic's speed, if threatened. He just doesn't go around on 100% all the time because his games are easy, so any average Kirby game is just him taking a stroll with his friends to find out why the poyo his house blew up again.
Also, smash kirby may as well be canon kirby, as far as powerlevels go, since Sakurai is respnsible. That means he can effortlessly swallow demiurge-killing entities like P5's Joker (though I do understand his durability is largely inconsistent).
>>
>>97368786
>how badass and stronger 40k's setting is
It isn't. Ignoring plot armour and warp shit that does whatever the fuck an author wants at the time, 40k is shit. They still use firearm designs that are already over a century old, which are just as viable as the guard's mainstay weapon.
The few exceptions are ancient relics, human or otherwise.

Or alternatively, I could use a system I don't have to fix, since the designers did the jobs they were being fucking paid to do.
>>
>>97349349
What are you talking about? You don't need to deal damage to end an encounter. If you're fighting a single shambling mound or whatever, and you cast force cage on it, you win. You can just leave. You don't have to kill things and there's very little incentive to do so. Most of the decently high value density treasure isn't found on monsters, and random magic items are just vendor trash, so it doesn't matter if you miss a few. Everything you use will be crafted from gold you get from selling ultra-valuable gems and other similar items.
>>
>>97367102
This is why most higher level creatures have some manner of dimensional travel.
Even still, saying that the optimal way to play the game is to render obsolete large parts of it's core system and assumption doesn't reflect well on the game in play.
>>
>>97367553
You're not rendering it obsolete. Defeating a monster with a sword doesn't make magic obsolete, and defeating a monster with magic doesn't make swords obsolete. They're just different ways of interacting with the world. There is no correct way to approach any challenge.
>>
Alright lads, I dug up my 3.0 Psionics Handbook from a box in my parents' loft and now I'm curious

How bad/unbalanced/shit is 3.0 psionics compared to 3.5? I know I played with it back in the olde days, but I'm not 14 any more and I can't remember the details.

The psionic attack/defense mode thing looks neat as a way to make psionics "different" but it feels like different for different's sake, especially the "attacker sets DC by rolling a d20 and defender makes a save", there are fuck all other places in D&D that have both attacker AND defender roll like that.

Based uhh... *checks notes*

Yeah sure, let me just ignore how much effort it takes to be humanly understandable as it is and just slap yet another layer of emulation on top of that. No thanks.
>>
>>97368352
Just because you, personally, can make or do something does not mean you, personally, can break down the process to testable constituent functions capable of being applied in other contexts. We still don't have a clear explanation for why bicycles self-stabilize, for example, with experimental apparatuses assembled to test whether they still do with any and all of a wide range of commonly suspected factors only for ones with none of them to still self-stabilize beyond the bounds of any known theory.

And that's "simple" mechanical force. Multi-planar magic is throwing out the assumption of invariant rules right off the bat, and if one of the planes is inimical to your existence due to how its rules differ from your typical plane of residence you're going to have to jump through an assload of hoops to construct an apparatus capable of relaying you any information of spell functions residing there. Even if the truth of the internal functions were capable of being empirically determined by a sufficiently priviledged observer, to do science with it requires such an observer both actually exist and be capable of the right kind of work to perform experiments, which is not exactly difficult to preclude in the conditions of a counterfactual.
>>
>>97367898
>arguments over the axioms to use get vicious
you fundamentally misunderstand axiomatic mathematics
there are no "wrong" axioms beyond those which introduce contradictions
people might quibble over what to include in a definition, but that's just a label
the consequences of a collection of axioms is what math explores. dropping and adding axioms, or pivoting to assume an entirely new set of axioms that characterize an interesting feature of something under study, are all common avenues mathematics.

for instance, a (naive) understanding of distance in physical space leads to the concept of euclidean distance.
distance is useful for comparing how far apart two things in a set are, which is useful for understanding things like convergence and continuity.
so mathematicians have distilled some basic features about euclidean distance into something that has been labeled a metric, which retains key features about euclidean distance but is more general.
metrics in turn leads to ideas about open and closed sets, which themselves obey some interesting properties and moreover provide alternate definitions of continuity.
so mathematicians distilled ideas and features of open sets into something called topological spaces.
metric spaces and topological spaces aren't subsets or supersets of each other, they are their own structures, and while euclidean space is a poster child for these spaces, these ideas are more general (that is, they have less structure) than euclidean space.

Ars Magica has a splatbook called The Cradle & The Crescent which deals with middle-eastern magic through the ars magica lens. It's not particularly detailed, since it's totally different to the core european hermetic magic that the game is built for, but it's interesting enough. I played a guy whose shtick was summoning djinni and asking them to do stuff in a one-shot game and I have no idea how the rules worked, the GM handled most of the stuff under the hood.

if you want more info I can try to find some.
