>>97399817>Not everything weird needs to be from the Wyld.I didn't suggest that everything weird should come from the Wyld, anon. I suggested that in the case of this specific country, the one with the ground inhabited and ruled by raksha, Wyld influence would be a pretty logical explanation for weirdness, and also that the mortal inhabitants of this specific country harnessing that Wyld influence to their advantage would be cool and make sense.
>>97400080While it post-dates it significantly, they already pulled that trick with the wolves in that one place in Across the Eight Directions. Also, raksha don't need to be in the Wyld all the time; they go hunting on the floor of the forest exactly because they aren't in the Wyld, so they eat Virtues and Willpower of those they find to keep on. The Wyld Zones in question would also need to be conducive to the oddities in question, and the realms of the three fae nobles who were in there don't really seem tuned to it.
>>97400129While not everytjing weird needs to come from the Wyld, weird things coming from the Wyld definitely shouldn't be, and isn't, a single location's special schtick, either.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>97165346Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: https://pastebin.com/JNnj79S5 (embed) (embed)https://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator/wbi/: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TWorldbuilding Hub: https://discord.com/invite/wGjxK3YThe Writer's Forge: https://discord.com/invite/CUxHxWqTira: https://discord.com/invite/f52W6KgComment too long. Why is it suddenly a problem if the world is modern? What's wrong with wanting a modern setting with original races, cultures, religions, geographies, or whatever?
>>97394601The same way God did. Brains and genes.
Historically, a woman might have given birth to six children only for three to reach adulthood, with most deaths occurring during the first year. It was common for 40% to 50% of children to die before reaching puberty.Maternal mortality was equally prevalent. It is estimated that the number of women who died in childbirth rivaled the number of men who died in wars. In many peaceful eras, childbirth was actually more lethal to the female population than combat was to the male population. Before modern medicine, roughly 1 in 100 to 1 in 150 births resulted in the mother’s death. Because women had multiple pregnancies—often six to ten—their cumulative lifetime risk of dying in childbirth was as high as 1 in 10 or 1 in 20. In many cultures, children weren't named until they were a year old.Because the risk was so omnipresent, many cultures treated pregnancy with a solemnity that reflected the possibility of death. In many European traditions, women would go to confession or take the Eucharist before labor, often settling their affairs and drafting wills. If they survived, it was celebrated with a formal ceremony of thanksgiving. How would a fantasy setting tackle it? Let the childhood mortality be as high despite the presence of magic? Have healing magic be rare? Perhaps magic not having figure out how to deal with childbirth because of the two souls problem? Have magic solve the issue with the resulting population explosion? Have monsters/spirts that target children and pregnant women? Have lethality much higher than real life because monsters actively hunt humans?
All reasons for why magic is considered evil by the "Science Side", ie the modernists who follow modern liberal principles:1. Magic is anti-humanist. It's derived from the power of what's basically Satan, a primordial god that tried and failed to take over the universe. Whenever you use magic, you're basically channeling HER will.2. Magic is anti-meritocratic. 99% Mages are just born with their powers, and their ability is hard capped at birth. Hard work and effort don't matter, only your parentage does. It inevitably creates aristocratic clan based systems.3. Magic is sexist and gender essentialist. If you were born male, you can use magic but you can't "create" it or pass it on. If you were born female, you can pass on the gene to your kids but can't use it. So it inevitably creates patriarchal systems.4. Magic is inherently zero sum. All Mages are basically drawing from the same pool of power. Killing other Mages actively makes you stronger. This system can't allow for peaceful cooperation, it will incentivize Mages to kill and enslave each other.5. Magic is irrational. You can't really study it to get stronger, you can just hope the true masters of magic (Satan and his followers) just beam the knowledge to you because it helps their plans. The existence of magic makes science impossible.Wdyt?

>>97399876for starters Elf slaves in a Roman system would inevitably result in the rise of a freedman class, there were famously some very powerful freedmen and presumably that would be compounded by Elf longevity allowing for centuries to accrue assets and power as well as magical aptitude, wisdom, y'know typical Elf traits.

>>97397120I don't mean to imply that WW1 disproves christian theological doctrine (which is largely irrelevant to the average person's understanding of christianity anyway), I'm just pointing out what historically happened in Europe at the time. My friends wants me to play a 1-shot. Does anyone have any suggestions of good one-shots for 5.5e?
>>97396650So this boils down to one of two issues from either side of the table, player and DMPlayer: they are new and have not/can not/will not move past the fact that game is in the title. A gamer is looking for every advantage, every resource, every edge they can have against the enemy (the gm). They are too used to extraneous npc dialogue, sidequests that can be completed in 5 minutes, every character having intimate knowledge of the situation at hand to some degree. It takes some experience to divine when the DM is describing the scene in order to help the imagination and when a description is a key to a puzzle or a clue to the story.DM: The worldbuilding has taken place of actual prep. The world around is too much. My players know that my motto is that anything I say, no matter how inane, random or small, has meaning to the campaign. They know that if it doesn't matter, I won't say anything. Conversely, if they want to deviate into a back alley or shop and create a dialogue or interaction, I will easily blend it into the story in a meaningful way. A lot of times when describing places or areas, to avoid word salad that might confuse, I will say to imagine several things combined like the party at one point ventured up into one of the Three High Cities which I described as a combination of the layout of Edoras, terrain of Skypeia and the building styles of Sanghelios. Visuals achieved, no word salad, no getting hung up on details that can be misconstrued as something important.
>>97399747Use one of the Dan Coleman adventures. Bad Apples is a good one because it's 3rd level, the recommended starting level. It's basically just going around a spooky orchard. Some puzzles, exploration, combat. Some RPing in the village at the start if you're into that sort of thing.I enjoyed a wild sheep chase as well. Depends on how much your party will enjoy terrible puns.

Not sure where to ask this question but this seems to be the best place since you can't ask meta questions on /qst/. Would daggerheart lend itself well to a quest? My idea was to start a worldbuiling project where I run both an irl game and a quest, and I want to use the same system and setting for both, with them occasionally interacting. At the same time I'm kinda interested in daggerheart as a system and want to try it, so that's why I landed on that. Can I get some inputs and ideas?I'm aware this thread is likely to be either ignored or incendiary but I like to fuck around and find out
>>97399973I don't have an answer to your question OP but>you can't ask meta questions on /qst/.Damn, they really set that place up to fail. They should have just made it a /tg/ 2.0 for the generals and quests. The fags from the generals could at least help populate the quests.
>>97399973>>>/qst/
>>97400031>>6229596>Therefore, only those people willing to put in the effort to be a quest author should post threads. If you do not intend to run a collaborative story, do not post a thread here! This includes meta-threadsI can't
>>97399973As someone who ran a few quests way back in the day, I'd say no system that exists is really made for quests. You need to make a system that suits your particular quest and is easily understood by whoever is coming and going at any given time you are running things. From what I understand of Daggerheart, you have two meta-currencies to juggle. Hope, for player characters to use many of their abilities and fudge rolls, which would be a pain in the ass to resolve in a thread format. Imagine every action players asking to perform needing to then go through whether or not to use tags or activate abilities or whatever. Then there's Fear, which is the GM's meta-currency for making things more dangerous, escalating problems, giving baddies extra attacks, or whatever. Again, everything that happens in the quest needing you to decide if and when you're going to activate an interrupting interjection while you are already juggling one or more player characters being controlled by several random assholes. This would be a bad way to try the system and a not especially successful quest, in my estimation.
>>97400042Thanks for the input, what systems were you using back then? Has anyone ever shared a system made for quests specifically?

>>97388940Because he's been a janny for almost a year now.
>>97387812I know this is a spam thread, but it's funny this gets brought up now of all times, since I'm in a game where this applies. As a member of the city watch outriders (which is something my GM made up for our game who venture beyond the thin slice of civilization that are the walled cities), I constantly get myself into trouble after trouble, mistake after mistake. Often times, I fully know that this is a retarded decision, but also know that my character is a reckless adrenaline junkie that only got into the city guard in the first place because he is really good at hiding it.Sexy prostitute in the middle of the woods? Probably a succubus, but there's a 1% chance she's real. Suspiciously large chest of gold in a dungeon? Probably a fake, but the rewards are worth it. Nigerian prince in the mail? Likely a scam, but the rewards outweigh the risks.
