Gaia didn't make everything, she just is everything.
>>
It all boils down to "God/Gaia/the writers made the World of Darkness a flawed and terrible place as a punishment, as a joke, because they're flawed and terrible themselves or because it would be a pretty boring game otherwise."
>>
>>97393821
>>97393919
>>97393926
Gaia is the spirit of Creation. As in the spiritual reflection of the world the Elohim made. Just like the spirit of a fox is a reflection of a fox.
>>
>>97393926
>>97394004
This is however slightly boring and though correct I would just like to picture Gaia as a very irresponsible mother.
>>
>>97393926
Maybe Gaia can only make Spirits of such a nature because that's her own nature as the top Spirit? Thus it's autism all the way down

Potentially, but DH or OW aren't terribly difficult for newbies either, at least unless you throw complex combat scenarios and advanced combat rules at them right away

Is there any specific lore behind FFG's OC chapter getting 3 levels of fucking gambling of all things as one of their signature chapter skills? Or was this just the case of the devs wanting to give that skill to at least someone and SW ended up getting it due to not having any preexisting flavour?

Either way I find the idea that those very mysterious, reclusive, honour-obsessed Astartes based on Scottish and Welsh warrior clans also apparently throw wild fucking poker nights at their chapter monasteries and are super into it absolutely hilarious and I'm making it my headcanon from now on
>>
>>97394199
I think the biggest thing to worry about with them is that while the core mechanic is simple, the numbers get complex FAST. I've had plenty of new GMs struggle with what happens when someone is dropped to zero Wounds on turn one of combat and then they have to read how Critical Damage works and so on and so forth. It's probably better to not discourage them early without also poisoning the well with a rules light system.
>>
are there actually people who find leagues of votann appealing? to me it just feels like watering down the setting

How would you humanize enemy mooks even if the players have to put them down at the end of day? How do you make it so that players leaving piles of corpses in their wake is not a trivial matter?

>TQ:
>What game did you expect to hate, but ended up really liking it?
TfM - played it late, thought it would be like Ark nova. The map part is pretty boring but I love the massive amount of cards and just building the engine up. It's sort of a calming game for me, where I just build my engine in peace
For sale - old, boring filler game. Besides it's betting which I'm not a fan of. Turns out it's great, all time goat. Love it.
Dominant species - people said it's long and mean. Hard to get things done and others ruin your plans etc.. One of my favorites. It's not that mean imo, st least it doesn't feel that way to me, maybe because of the theme. The domination calculation is simple math, no problems. It's longer since it's also best with more players but it doesn't feel long.

>What game did you expect to love, but endet up hating it?
Ark nova - animals, lot's of cards, heavy, everyone in the group loved it. It's not that interesting, slow cycling through the cards. Even more solo than TfM but with no engine building fun.
Spirit island - everyone loved it, heavy coop with asymetry. Maybe because it's coop but it's very boring. Like pandemic, enemy spreads and you play a couple of cards to contain them. The cards are also not that exciting.

I don't mind it all that much, but it depends on what kind of downtime.
This all opens a very interesting topic relevant to disagreements in game evaluation, "How do you approach [game]?". Like in the example, if you play Agricola Gaia Project just from your gut, you'll have a bad time. Similarly, if you overanalyze and try to strategize Diamant or Resistance, you'll have a tedious and frustrating game. That is not exclusive to weight, I'd argue Ra gets worse when you math out probabilities and Chinatown sucks if you go deeper than only roughly crunching the numbers before taking a deal.
And it's hard to approach a game you've tried and found shit once again from a different angle. Time is too precious for most of us.

Very interesting topic
>>
>>97393814
downtime can be very interesting if you know you're against a competent player, on the other hand if you're facing a dude who's only possible slowplay reasons are he needs to remember the manual... not that interesting

I know /tg/ had a pretty active Space Station 13 community way back in the days of yore, and now that the open-source modernized Space Station 14 is coming along nicely i was wondering if there is a SS14 /tg/ community kicking around.
It would be fun to get stuck in with the old robust grey tide crowd again.

Otherwise, general Space station 13/14 thread i guess.

So my DND group was kind of disolving, 2 out of the 4 players left because of life issues (one got a job abroad and the other one is dealing with life), to keep playing we incorporated 2 new players with not so much experience but avid watchers of Critical Role.

One of these player conditions was that we incorporate x cards to the game, she says that it makes it much more comfortable for her to know she can avoid unpleasant story elements having this tool.

I started to read a bit about it online and is this something you guys have used? In my 20 years playing I've never used this.

The mistake was not vetting people who get to sit at your table, the only people at mine are those i know and get along with and know others at my table get along with. I never had to use X cards because of that.
>>97363508
It's just used by bad faith actors who want to co-opt other people's table where everyone else is having fun. If the only person who isn't getting along and having fun is you well the problem might be you not the other people.

Theater also attracts narcissists. Outside of Shakespearean or period acting which attracts nerds and autists most mainstream theater is full of narcissistic retards that are all about their own success. A lot of the "professional rioters" we see in the US are also theater kids.
>>
>>97379627
A lot of west coast nerds are into the bdsm/poly scene because they don't get sex otherwise so I'm not surprised. A lot of nerds are also gay so all the gay sex culture is coming into mainstream rpg stuff now too. The whole consent shit is for hypergamic homosexuals and women who emulate homosexual male culture as a form of empowerment/equality.

>the next BBEG in your campaign is a coomer that goes around kidnapping and mind controlling women for his harem, and literally that’s it.

Does your party even care? Does your setting/game system even care? Assume that the BBEG is an adequate challenge and difficulty for your setting and party (whether it’s Exalted or DND or Rogue Trader or whatever, and the villain is always the right difficulty level for your party whether you’re lvl 1 or lvl 20 or a weenie or a Solar, the scale is perfect).

Basically is this guy a problem you and your crew would want to fix in whatever game you’re playing.

If he isn’t, what would it take to make him be a problem? A bigger bounty or reward? A personal friend that got turned into a harem slave?

This never becomes an issue.
• My game doesn’t use "BBEG"s; challenges are generated according to tables.
• "coomer" is a retarded buzzword with no actual meaning spouted by prudish or "safe-horny" retards.
• A kidnapper likely wouldn't venture as far into the wilderness and dungeons where the game takes place.
• Mind control doesn't exist to any capacity in any of my worlds, games or otherwise.

it is to try and equalise step up, which used to be too punishing, but it does actually often make not charging better especially if you have great weapons or good armour so don't expect many casualties. Another reason why TOW needs a new thought out edition, though what it doesn't need is a GW™ edition.
>>
Gee guys TOW seems like a total fucking mess
>>
>>97394138
It certainly seems that way if all you do is post on 4chan. Luckily the reality is much different and people are more often happy than not when you sit down to play a game. The truth of the matter is that rules have always been a secondary afterthought for the vast majority of people playing. Only the most degenerate tourneyfags whine about rules. Most people just wanna roll dice and move models with their friends.
>>
>>97394138
You should go back to not playing AoS
>>
>>97394138
it works fine but it needs an internal logic rather than the reactionary displaced rules it has ended up with, it doesn't need much more than a rewrite. The problem is that HH2.0 was in the exact same state, they made a nostalgiabait edition enshrining beloved rules, made new additions, had to course correct their new additions after leaving the rules on life support for ages, then proceeded to dump everything with a ground up rework changing fundamentals of the game and t no ones surprise cocking it up instantly. All they had to do was rewrit the edition as it stood at the end, but no that isn't marketable or exciting enough and doesn't give them the excuse to cut options.

has anyone given though to the state of mathematics in fantasy settings and how it affects the setting and characters in it? e.g.
>tribes in not!Africa struggle with trade because they can't count past 2

>how well astronomers understand the motion of the heavens
>how the characters think (i.e. logically, or numerically, or in a poetic / non-mathematical way)

The reality is you aren't designing a perfect system because people want different things. VtM had had wounds and penalties in the 90s and some people hated it. Blue rose integrated a wound penalty track in to d20 in 2004 or whatever but no one played blue rose.
What's ideal depends on genre and on player taste. People have been writing morenin depth injury systems for as long as there's been rpgs.

No, they're brutal raiders who prefer hewing through the weak and helpless. It wasn't until Obould Many-Arrows, an orc who was divinely blessed to be less of an impulsive fucktard than most of his race, came along that they even considered the possibility of semi-peaceful relations with other races. Then they started the War of the Silver Marches and a dwarven coalition force had to step in and kick their asses.
>>
>>97393560
Orcs are shit. Entirety derivative. Elves are people with long ears. Orcs are elves with green skin.
I almost always use Goblins instead because they're far more whimsical. Often I'll use them a misunderstood.
One of my favorite things that I tend to stick in is the Kingdom of Flowers. It is a Goblin settlement, usually in a forest, where all the Goblins like to adorn themselves with myriad colors and types of flowers. It's usually fae related and sometimes I'll place it in the Fae Wild. They are chaotic neutral and may provide the party with info or safe passage in exchange for a story or a joke.

I am not new to playing DnD 5e but I am sort of new to trying to actually roleplay my character. I have such a hard time because its hard for me to actually get in the seat of my character without it feeling weird. I am sure our DM gives us good chances for RP and I never really engage with it even though I want too. I think part of the issue is that I feel my characters are always lack luster and not particularly interesting. I am a fighter and I have a personal code of honor of sorts. Like comradery etc. All that seems not unique at all. What are some good examples of good roleplaying and actually shit roleplaying?

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.
