Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.Thread question: what's the best classic GURPS cover art?
>>97377540Maybe read How to be a GURPS GM first if you haven't already.
>>97377472depending on the nature of the game you want to do, I would either recommend reading:Low Tech + Martial ArtsorHigh Tech + Tactical Shooting
>>97377707I think i'll try to get familiar with the system first before going to more in-depth books. I'll use tech books for equipment, though.
>>97377880The low and high tech books are very good, probably the best and most useful besides Basic Set. There are some worthwhile home rules/alternate to consider though, and I always recommend looking into Martial Arts just for the much better bleeding rules and hit locations than Basic. Alternate GURPS has a few that are just better than basic, including the Alternate Gun skills, and a big recent one I'm fond of is using the DF slam table in place of the slam rules in basic. Those can all come later but keep them on your radar.
>>97377472Maybe be our GM? We are open for any kind of scenario. Kind of beginners ourselves.

>>97371441That's because campaign systems have started using the MUL as a unit guide even though its purpose is merely to show what factions commonly use what and when, and 40k refugees have clung to that idea because it's what they're familiar with. It's not even comprehensive, I've personally found holes in its listings.
So my DND group was kind of disolving, 2 out of the 4 players left because of life issues (one got a job abroad and the other one is dealing with life), to keep playing we incorporated 2 new players with not so much experience but avid watchers of Critical Role. One of these player conditions was that we incorporate x cards to the game, she says that it makes it much more comfortable for her to know she can avoid unpleasant story elements having this tool. I started to read a bit about it online and is this something you guys have used? In my 20 years playing I've never used this.
>>97365142>>97368437That's the thing though, I have never seen this shit used in an "Actual Play" series. They expect you to use this shit, not them. Critical Role has some of the most absurdly crude crap in it at times too, things I'd tell a player to pump the brakes on.
>>97373965You can ask for clarification. The point is "issue noted" and then moving on without making any fuzz about it.
Session 0 doesn't replace x cards. Is not like everyone can name everything they are uncomfortable with. God forbids someone forgot to say in S0 that she doesn't want to hear about characters licking each other asses so now has to just listen to it.

So I bought this as I really like Conan 2d20 System and I was surprised that system appears to be very rules lite compared to Conan 2d20 or WHFR 4E and a lot of rules and stuff appears to be on GM to flesh out. Usually i pay for RPG books because i don't want to figure out how much damage or to hit modifier some fancy sword has but in Dune core rulebook, its precisely that, book demands that i figure it out instead of giving me stat blocks. may be its just I'm retarded, or this system is lazy slop cashing in on movie craze?
>>97371999Why not?
>>97373482because only 2/5 of the characters in the art shown are white males.
>>97370135Only have read the first 3 books of the Dune series and there might be enough stuff for them to run with. But, I know there are sort of time periods in Dune that are all pretty different so it also matters when in Dune things happen. Plus everything that happens is mostly because Paul and his son are so superior that they see a specific path for humanity to take for the success of humanity and basically manipulate everything so that it happens according to their plan. But holy fuck Dune Messiah and Children of Dune are not good books. Messiah truly feels like you're reading something his was contractually obligated to write without having much of an idea on where he wanted the story to go and feels like he's just meandering about trying to figure it out. Children of Dune feels like Herbert finally figured out where he wanted the story to go, but still sticks with secret incomprehensible plan to laymen and readers must be stuck to
I still need to actually read the rules for the game, but as far as I can tell, yes it’s basically the same mechanics Star Trek adventures and the Fallout RPG use, but scaled differently depending on what the PCs are doing.Because one aspect of the game is that the PCs are part of (or outright leading) their own house. And the type of that house is whatever they want it to be, be it a minor house, or even a great house on par with the “big three”. So combat scales from personal combat, strategic combat, espionage, and intrigue.Though the biggest hurtle to the game might be the setting itself. The lore of Dune might rub some people the wrong way. Not only that, but the further you get from Arrakis, the less developed the setting gets. So if the PCs house is not stationed on Dune, and they aren’t particularly interested in claiming Dune, then you might end up in uncharted waters.
>>97373482• I'm not interested in Dune.• 2D20 resolution.• "Very rules lite", despite expecting payment.
Would the Beastmen race from Warhammer Fantasy, The Old World and Age of Sigmar been more popular if they were instead a Beastwomen race where the purpose of their raids is forcing human and elven males to breed with them?

has anyone given though to the state of mathematics in fantasy settings and how it affects the setting and characters in it? e.g.>tribes in not!Africa struggle with trade because they can't count past 2>how traders to calculation to determine prices, risk, etc>how well astronomers understand the motion of the heavens>how the characters think (i.e. logically, or numerically, or in a poetic / non-mathematical way)
>>97367888>In my games setting magic and the technology that would allow for automation can't co-exist, as the chaotic reality manipulating nature of magic would interfere and break stuff purely running on the laws of physics. (not the most original idea, but at least it explains why things have been in medieval stasis for so long)Fine, I'll bite. How? Since technology is just exploiting natural chemical and motion based principles already baked in to nature. If "thing pushes other thing" suddenly broke down, your entire body would suddenly fall apart in to it's base components. The real answer is the tainted work of the hand of man thanks to man being sinful. Magic is closer in purity to the uncorrupt world prior to the fall. Also what makes it so dangerous. Much in the same way that anyone who looks upon the Lord would die instantly. Or how touching the Ark of the Covenant would kill someone instantly. Harnessing magic takes extra measures.
>>97373744Your answer is just as valid as the other anon's.Neither needs to hold up to scrutiny of rejects from /sci/ or /lit/, because they won't be scrutinised, they're window dressing for a game.
>>97373817>scrutiny of rejects from /sci//sci/ is one of the most retarded cesspools i've ever encountered. it's were science goes to die. even /x/ is a better resource for science related matters.
>>97373744This is why I dont have any intention of fleshing out the interaction. It just does, the players haven't shown any interest in the exact mechanics. There's no real reason for me to work it out further unless my players suddenly start caring about it. Its going to be more relevant in the future but for now its background information with the occasional reminders.Unless the players tell me / let me know by their behavior and questions that they're interested in specific things I try to avoid putting in a lot of time to developing ideas and lore about them. The exception being of course things I think are cool or relevant that I want them to deal with or know about. At the end of the day I enjoy creating a consistent setting for my players to have fun in, where they can make informed choices and have the world respond logically to their actions.
>>97372876would be even more awkward if they had different views on logic, e.g. classical logic vs intuitionist logic vs paraconsistent logicor if they had contradictory mathematical axioms, e.g. if one species the axiom of choice and another accepted the axiom of determinacy.
I was diving in the archives and discovered this thing that /tg/ made a long time ago. Catgirls + an underwater world. It looks like the project withered away and everyone involved left this board ten or so years ago. So, how was it? Did it ever get off the ground?
The reason /tg/ isn't creative any more and 4chan as a whole fucking sucks even compared to 10 years ago is because being anonymous means nothing any more because the internet is not longer just for fat nerds to bitch about their interests. Sure people on reddit or youtube or facebook or whatever have usernames, but it doesn't fucking matter because there's so many people siloed into 4 websites that you will never interact with any of them more than once, so people treat every discussion as a one-off instead of just the latest in a long line of interaction. 4chan has nothing to offer because being a nobody and calling everyone niggers and kikes is just the internet now, it's not a special place for special people, and it's no different to any of the social media websites people here pretend to hate and not use except it's slightly more vulgar as people try to keep up the "4chan persona" they feel like they need to put on in order to post and feel like a real anon.
