NTA but for new players limiting options to core only often helps a lot. Having all possible freakshit pushed into core just makes things confusing for the newbies.

Though I guess it does not matter as SF2e is just going to be used as supplement material for PF2e so all who get into that are going to be experienced players anyway.

Soldier is John AoE Weapons, and is pretty interesting as far as classes go, and probably fine even if I find the choice to make them Con-based with a bunch of "use Con in place of X" stuff (carry capacity, demoralize, etc etc). The two spellcasters are honestly pretty good.

Solarian's chassis is an unfinished skeleton with gaping holes in it, its design was skittish and actively hurt by page space keeping them from using all the SF1e ideas, plus the bizarre need to "have a class for every ability mod" (which Witchwarper ruined anyway) that locked it to Str only. Envoy is a skill and support class that manages to be disappointing in both directions, with weak subclasses and directives that are overly restrictive. Operative is a schizophrenic, badly designed mess of a class who has multiple nonfunctional features, but it gets propped up into being powerful by the fact it gets legendary gun scaling and an extra damage boost, in a book that introduces kinda decent guns.

Gudnak is beer and pretzels light on the deck building with no lands and a built in match time limiters but loads of fun and highly replayable due to the rich strategy elements while Sorcery has a ludonarrative emergent gameplay stretching across a chaotic game board with quirky land effects that has a vast sea of deck building choices that go as deep as you want them to be while maintaining that the golden rule is the most important one. In all seriousness the comparison to them both operating on a grid is where the similarities end and the final results wildly differ.

I think you could sum it up as Gudnak can be played by a wider range of players with or without experience in he hobby while Sorcery is a veritable unlimited seafood buffet for those who love deep card game design.

Why can't sorcery shills just stop being weird pushing their investments. People would genuinely lay off most of the criticism if it wasn't so cultish

>>97244964
It should be easy enough to find at a local , dont risk buying sketchy boxes especially online. Walk into a store and just buy singles. All the new player product for the game is fine. It's a bandai game, they're good in that regard consistently if nothing else

Maybe I'm full of shit but I think the word 'god' in aos can refer to a bunch of different entities. You've got the chaos gods of course, the 'elemental' gods tied to a wind of magic (siggy, alarielle, tyrion, ...), you've got mortals who ascended to godhood through sheer power (kragnos) or due to worship + absorbing souls (morathi). There also seem to be gods that exists purely due to people worshipping them, like the various death gods in shyish. Maybe it's explained in detail in one of the broken realms books or whatever but it seems fairly nebulous to me. Especially the border between "really powerful individual" and "ascended god". Like what exactly did morathi do to cross that treshhold?
I guess this isn't all that different to how the word god in the english language has come to mean a billion different things. From capital g God, to the gods of various ancient religions, to 'entity in charge of local creek' in ancient greek or chineee or whatever mythology.
Tldr no clue man
>>
>>97244735
The difference between the non-Chaos gods and the Four fuck the Rat seems to be a matter of scale. I think of Sigmar et al. like local or physical gods. Something like a comic book god you can interact with and punch. Powerful, but ultimately they bleed and can be killed.
The Chaos gods are more akin to Outer Gods or Old Ones from Lovecraft. They're much "larger" in scale and aren't wholly concrete. You can't really punch Khorne. Sure they do have forms within their realms, but they're also kind of their realms too. They're more conceptual.
Archaon has been glutted on so much power that he's essentially a god on Sigmar's level.
>>
>>97244799
>what did morathi do
Pic related. She did a specific thing to secure her claim to godhood.

I'm pretty sure the outflank rule was only introduced in the following edition, and at the time the WS player would have had to move his units on board through his own table edge, which he couldn't do since you can't move through enemy models and he had no jump infantry (which could move over the Kroot) or tanks (which could force the Kroot out of the way with a tank shock test).
As people have pointed out before, there would have been plenty of ways to prevent this scenario: just deploying one unit on the board would have been enough since you couldn't be infiltrating units within 12'' (if there's no LOS) or 18'' (if there is LOS) of enemy units. But since he was playing a WAAC list consisting nothing but fast bikes that arrive on board on the player's first turn to ensure the opponent can never shoot at them before they get to move and shoot, he had his whole army in reserves and lacked any way to get past a single unit think Kroot conga-line.
>>
>>97244175
No, he would require Khan to do that and he'd come in off the sides. You couldn't just come in from reserves anywhere at the time, you had to arrive from your table edge unless you were outflanking (a specific, declared rule) or you were Snikrot, who could specifically come in on the enemy's edge. This is providing this is 5th, which I believe it is since the deployment type seems to be "Dawn of War" (deploy HQ and two troops, everything else in reserve) and null deployment on Dawn of War was very common. This deployment type added to the mechanization if 5th ed armies, but that's a different topic. It meant 1/3 of the time your static firepower had to walk onto the table, so they couldn't shoot at all and couldn't run since that wasn't a thing.
I want to point out that this is a full 4x6 table, so that's an asston of kroot even fully spread at 2" coherency.
>>
>>97244338
>>97244389
Ah I see.

I didn't understand any of your explanations, I never got within 20 meters of a tabletop game. But thanks for explaining eitherway.
>>
>>97244573
As I vaguely understand it (and will be happy to be told otherwise by more experienced anons), units entering the battle need to start a certain distance away from the other enemy units currently on the battlefield for the sake of fairness so that you don't get a scenario where one guy watches their opponent set up their army and then just completely encircle them from all sides like an antlion pit. And while there are a few units that can get around that to a degree, bikes aren't one of them.

>>97242052
Oh so the new threads are good. Glad we can always make more.

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.

The universal running is questionable.
Mostly because everyone on foot was moving 6" so the only way to make things faster like Eldar or Hormagaunts was giving them run, but now everyone can run you lost that option.
The scattering of small blast from 5th there are times I like it and other I do not. Usually I'm only hitting 3 models and maybe wounding 2, unless my opponent is super cluster up in cover so adding the extra scatter was not a fun thing.
But a change we did add was heavy weapons for infantry can shoot but only on 6 when moving and blast do scatter when moving. Till now it does not look like 4th edition rules have broken due to that change.
>>97243626
3rd/4th has about 10 years worth of content made by people that actually cared about their game.
>>
>>97244342
IIRC 5th didn’t have partial hits like 4th did, I think I remember feeling that kinda made up for the scattering.
I think running is a huge improvement and a more suitable match for mapping the distance a model can move around the table throughout a games duration. I felt that without it units were just to stuck in the area where they were deployed. I also think it helps to need transports in a way that doesn’t just make them more expensive.
>6th Ed snap shots.
Desu all of the 6th Ed weapon type rules were better than before, except ap3 power swords which just kinda ruined melee. I wish salvo was more utilized, and the change to rapid fire is so easy to overlook. I think I finally won my first game with tau in 6th ed.
>>
Mark my words, 11th edition will continue the enshittification of the game and the hobby to a degree not seen before. You are not ready.
>>
>>97245035
Helps to nerf*
>>
>>97245050
Likely yes. GW has changed the game to appeal to mtg waacs. Do you know how much money those people spend? It’s insane. Unless that dries up the game will continue to be “streamlined” and designed around pre-canned “synergies” and “combos”.

They can't handle 3d so making 2d images on a standie is about where they're at cognitively.

Consensual reality wouldn’t really work unless everything was a grand simulation phenomenon or project

Even then reality is only partly consensual.

Guys, I want to talk about HELLPIERCERS. I bought this game a bit ago because I thought it looked cool, and I've read it, and I don't know enough people weird enough to play it with me, and I can't stop thinking about it, and I just have to talk about it with someone.

>First up: what the fuck is Hellpiercers? And why do you spell it in all-caps? Do you have autism?
HELLPIERCERS is a tactical tabletop RPG developed by SandyPug Games alongside a few people who did some dev work on some of the Lancer supplements. It casts the PCs as gnostic demigod heroes and veterans of the War in Heaven, who aided the forces of humanity in regaining their stolen gnosis and slaying the Demiurge, his Archons, and angelic generals. Having conquered Heaven and liberated the mortal plane from the tyranny of false divinity, they now cast their eyes downward, into Hell, where countless human souls remain enslaved by the demon lords below. Hellpiercers, armed with their god-slaying weapons, clad in armor forged from the corpses of angels, lead a war of liberation against the forces of Hell, to free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived.

I spell it in all-caps because it's title is rendered in all-caps. I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic, but I've never been tested, so who even fucking knows?

Gnosticism posits that the secret truth of the universe is that we are trapped in an illusion/simulation/prison, and the deity responsible for this is evil. So by rejecting this twisted reality and fighting against it, you are a heroic rebel. It lets you be iconoclastic, rebellious, but also be the good guy because you're aligned with a greater cosmic good that exists beyond the demiurge. You get to have a punch-up with god, but like, without having to go full fedora about it.
Which does kind of boil down to what >>97242687 says, I admit
>>
>>97235095
I'm not sure that setting makes sense: gnosticism is still totally monotheistic, just that the demi-urge is larping as the one true god when he's not. Using terms like "god-slayer" is completely antithetical to the beliefs of gnosticism, as the protagonists would inherently reject that the things they killed were gods. It might sound like a nitpick but it's a critical distinction. It's a red flag that there's no reference in the text to there being any sort of actual god in the setting, plus "free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived" from hell? Really? Even the rapists and child molesters? Would the devs want Hitler to be "liberated"? The whole thing reeks of an edgy atheist power fantasy.

>It might sound like a nitpick but it's a critical distinction
If a guy calls himself a god and I kill him, I don't care if he was lying; I'm calling myself a godslayer
>It's a red flag that there's no reference in the text to there being any sort of actual god in the setting
In the narrative present, it's been, like, five years since humans put the Demiurge to the sword. They might not actually know about the Pleroma. Or it's an excuse plot for tactical demon-slaying. Probably a little of both.
>Even the rapists and child molesters? Would the devs want Hitler to be "liberated"?
I won't make any argument on the part of the devs, but if someone told me Hitler was a devout servant of the archons who was consumed by his masters in their hour of need, I'd believe it. In a more abstract sense, if someone told me "Only humans are fit to judge humans. Hitler must be judged, but that judgment is neither the responsibility nor to the right of anyone but humans." I wouldn't... disagree with it.

It's edgy atheist christianity for edgy atheist ex-christians: familiar enough to build off of without any real research and also easy to use as the base for a cynical dystopia.
>>
>>97242679
Lets you keep the cultural trappings of Christianity while pretending to be not a Christian, have cool badguy demons be good guys and other edgy appealing things. Its an easy stylistic with a lot of prebuilt cultural traction.
