Also note that the first part about the colons/semicolons isn't exclusive to summons. That's just how effects are written.
If <Condition>(COLON)
--> <Cost>(SEMICOLON)
----> <Effect>

For example,
If <you control no monsters>:
--> <You can discard 1 card>;
----> <Special Summon this monster (from your hand)>

<You can discard 1 card>;
--> Destroy 1 card on the field

If <Your opponent controls more monsters than you do>:

Anyway, I'll spare you the rest of the walls of text unless you ask more questions. My recommendation to you as a new player though,
>Learn how PSCT reads so you can skim the cards. It's a well-versed player's trick to just skim cards for anything that fucks them

>Learn how PRIORITY works, THEN TIMING. Don't do it the other way around.

>Learn to identify the shared functionality between archetypal cards.
Since you got a Phantom Revenge box, I'll use Kewl Tune as an example for the last one; Most of their Main Deck monsters have the shared functionality of using 1 tuner from the hand as material when you synchro summon with their cards, and activating effects when they're sent to the GY as synchro material. It expedites the process of reading all that shit when you mentally format an archetype, so you have a general idea of how they work without having to memorize all the text on their cards.
>>
>>97412282
Slapping 40-60 random cards from two different booster sets together isn't going to work, buy a structure/starter/legendary deck instead. DUAD is iirc lunalight and onomat while PHRE is h*ckin'handerinos, kidz bop and that one stun/burn archetype with the weird ships/animals, none of which have synergy with each other.

Having said that, i don't think branded is a good starting point for a beginner, since it's (IMO) a pretty boring archetype, at least without the dracotail cards, because you just want to floodgate the opponent with the piss dragon, meaning you won't actually learn anything.

The 5D's legendary decks will actually give you pretty much every single relevant staple card, but the decks themselves are beyond awful.

Blue-eyes has been powercrept hard, but it also gives you a fair amount of staples, and the deck itself isn't half bad, it's just a little inconsistent without the primite cards (which aren't as expensive as before, but it's still a $100 engine iirc), and being both a starter deck AND a popular archetype means you'll be playing a lot of mirror matches. It IS getting more support in the future however, namely a deep-eyes retrain that searches maiden and summons itself (being level 10 is ass, but you can still use it for juraishin and seal), so it's not a bad investment for a casual player.
>>
>>97412583
Branded is an excellent starting point for new players. What kind of cock are you smoking, brother?
>without the dracotail cards or the floodgates-
You need to keep your dick down and remember that you're suggesting starting points for newbies, not totally-optimized builds for experienced players. They get a feature-rich Branded deck off of a few copies of the Chronicles deck, which also happens to come with a particularly versatile form of removal in the form of The Fallen & The Virtuous.

Depends on what company you look at. Dashat(Haqq+Yu Jing+mercs) and White Company(PanO+Yu Jing+mercs) are probably the clearest examples of what you described. Starco is mostly Nomads and mercs themed around the cast of the spinoff comic. Ikari is mostly mercs and japanese with smattering of units from most other factions. Druze, themed around Druze, is pretty much the "purest" mercenary force in terms of its unit selection.

On a scale of Duel Masters to Magic the Gathering, how dead is Yu-Gi-Oh?
>>
4/10 on the dead scale it's hard to find stores to play in but those stores are usually full of active players all waiting to get pegged by my mermail deck
>>
>>97411689
It's still being played pretty actively, but it has a crisis of having difficulty acquiring and retaining new players. The barrier to entry includes getting your head around the complex plays that are prominent in the modern game after all of the power creep, as well as the potentially annoying costs to build decks. I don't think this game will properly die unless it goes through a long streak of competitive metas that are absolute dogshit.
>>
I recently began to purchase cards because I want to pick up a card game besides Pokemon (Magic is too aesthetically directionless now).
I have watched a few videos explaining the basic rules and still confused as to why there needs to be five unique ways to summon a monster.
>>
>>97412387
Because early on they fucked up when trying to adapt Takahashi's vision for fusion and ritual monsters into an actual game and the meta never recovered from those decisions
>>
>>97412387
why is that confusing to you? I also recently started playing and like no shit there's multiple ways over the years to summon monsters, some of which clash with one another. Its for balance and flavor. This is just such a weird thing to type out.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: what's the best classic GURPS cover art?

>I was initially thinking that there wasn't much point having all your troops packed into one vehicle when you can disperse them among many smaller ones
I don't see why that'd be the case. A bunch of smaller vehicles and smaller squad sizes increases the logistical and strategic burden of moving all those guys around and limits their ability to put firepower down range. It's arguably less important when they're overmatching irregular opponents, but in a near peer fight even with force multipliers like integrated loitering munitions, ballistic computers and power armor they're gonna be at a disadvantage in a firefight against a larger unit of infantry.

You don't want to go full M44, that's a hell of an egg basket. 6x6, 8x8 and tracked can all carry an autocannon, a decent computer, a gatling laser and a single squad. Just have to balance capability with mass, everything is about mass with spacelift.

Guns Stats states that 2025 is TL9, no question mark.
Obviously we don't have all the things predicted in Ultra-Tech, since UT was more based on science fiction than actual predictions about the future, and even if they tried to be totally realistic, it's hard to predict the future several decades ahead. Also, we're one year in. We didn't have smartphones, hybrid cars, drones, or 3D printers in 1981.
I'm not sure that AI is really the best example of what we don't have either; the best LLMs seem comparable to what I would expect from a GURPS IQ 8 dedicated AI; incapable of replacing a normal human, but better than an animal (sometimes), or genuinely retarded person. I'm not sure what level of compute you need to run one, but the Complexity 5 personal computer in UT doesn't seem far off what is necessary and it seems likely to be possible to do similar stuff with a smaller machine soon. That's kind of roughly the level I would expect to be cutting edge one year into TL 9.
>>
>>97411190
>I'm not sure what level of compute you need to run one
https://rentry.org/recommended-models
tl;dr: A 12-GiB graphics card generally is sufficient.

According to Thinking Machines (Pyramid vol. 3 iss. 37, from year 2011):
>Complexity 5 = typical 2010 computer; can beat humans at specific games
>Complexity 6 = 2010 high-end commercial server; equivalent to a human brain
>Complexity 7 = theoretical as of 2010

GURPS High-Tech: Electricity and Electronics indicates that a 2010 (advanced VLSI) desktop (workstation) computer has Complexity 5 for 500 $, Complexity 6 for 10 k$, or Complexity 7 for 200 k$.

According to Ultra-Tech p. 25:
>A Complexity 5 computer can run a dedicated (non-learning) AI with IQ 9
>A Complexity 6 computer can run a dedicated AI with IQ 11

The blatant market manipulation can be annoying but thank god we aren’t One Piece. Scalpers are launching a counterattack on it currently. They’ve been trying it with Gundam too but set 2 was so bad everyone who went in hard got burned.
>>
>>97412552
Gundam is a strange one, with how it's so very archetype-focused already but they're deciding to introduce new archetypes so often. It's clearly working out better for the archetypes that get starter decks vs the ones that don't. But I wouldn't be surprised if certain cards from archetypes introduced in set 2 end up exploding in price once their archetype really clicks.
>>
>>97412716
The disparity between archetypes can be a bit frustrating. AEUG being so mediocre deflated a lot of my hype desu. I hope they broaden the effects and card design of the existing colors because if Turn A and Shining Gundam are both still worse than just running Kira package I think I’m out. Not that I’ve really invested much in the game anyway. It’s nice change of pace but I still prefer digi.

I don't think he really came up with them but the idea of a hive city, a self-contained arcology, is discussed at some length by Isaac Asimov in Foundation (Trantor, the capital of the First Galactic Empire, is a full-planet hive). Long story short, Trantor requires constant shipments of food, water, enegy etc to even continue to function (and only has a population of 40 billion, which was an unthinkably large number in the 1940s when Asimov was originally writing it.

40k doesn't really distinguish between hive cities (which may be spires, plates etc depending on their design) and an ecumenopolis (a city which covers an entire planet, like Trantor or Coruscant) but the problems both would face are pretty much identical, and covered by Asimov's assessment that they'd require constant influxes of materiel and constant removal of, or recycling of, waste.

So for 40k that becomes corpse starch and slums and forgotten rookeries where law no longer applies. It takes from Dredd (as Dredd takes from Kowloon, Rat's Castle, Jacob's Island and other places real and fictional) and it takes from Foundation and it makes something which is neither one nor the other.

A megacity in particular is a real term - for cities of 10 million or more - and 40k draws on that too. From the late 1960s until the 1990s there was a real fear in some political circles that urban areas would become ungovernable (as the rookeries had once been) because of the availability of new weapons, rise of organised crime etc. This in turn informed a lot of media - the Running Man is a late example of it, but Dirty Harry and The Warriors would be examples from the 70s - and you see it all over when you start to recognise it for what it is. That is the reason hive cities in 40k are lawless (and it makes it easier to justify skirmishing) - because of a bogus political theory that informed generations of fiction. Same reason Star Trek's 20thC is so fucked up too.
>>
>>97411212
In 40k, the ecumenopolis is usually referred to as a "Solar-type" hive world where the hive has overtaken all natural features of the planet's surface.

Figured the best way to counter nu-lore for the Barghesi is simply making better lore. Updated my Xenos-Minoris Dossiers: Barghesi expansion. Here's the changelog:

Inclusion of a story ‘Ink Scarring Iron’ about a magos perhaps a little too obsessed with this new dog-species, to the point of warping Imperial records and the violent repercussions. (page 178)

-Two new NPC profiles:
-The ‘Lesser Geist’ A small version of the beast, considered a rampant pest amongst Barghesi society (page 181)
-The ‘Vulf-Geist’ A violent mutation of its smaller counterpart, as tall as a tank and just as dangerous to Barghesi and Imperial forces (page 182)

-New Formation:
-Fangcatcher Master Using the Geists as the rodents that they are to cause untold mayhem by unleashing the ravenous beasts amongst the enemy, often as a pre-emptive tactic to distract or soften up a foe. (page 210)

Three new Wargear Items:
-The Geist Cage Used for transporting the larger, nastier Vulf-Geist (page 76)
-The Spine Collar For controlling the ravenous beasts if you’re feeling particularly sadistic (page 76)
-The Scab Mask Less about giving the beasts face-armour, more about doping them up into even more berserk monsters than they already are (page 76)

How would one make an Ilithid Campaign where you play as these squidies
>>
all they do is hide in caves and touch each other on the head with their tentacles. it would get boring.

Aggressive hentai campaign where an aboleth sends you on a quest to discover new and interesting ways to rape as many dark elf bitches in the ass as possible. Maybe some derros and deep gnomes too, idk.

3.5e spelljammer, iirc they're a +8 level adjustment race but you can ignore that if everybody plays one
>>
Its a really shitty thread but I'll admit I've been hankering to play a mindflayer in a dnd campaign. I'm sure there's already any number of homebrewed player race for them as is too. I'd want to play him as a double agent, playing at having broke free of the hive mind, but working towards preserving it and directing dangers away and funneling in easy marks.

You're a bitch but you have the same idea I had, rather I want the focus to be on starting as a cave dwelling freak who researches and expands his clutch into a fortified base of mindflayers and brain golems and the end goal is building a nautiloid

Why should I bother thinking about any character creation decision if every encounter will be identically challenging regardless?

What happens when other people in the world encounter monsters?

If the players and one or more other adventuring parties of varying levels and character types come upon the same creatures at the same time, what happens?

Where are the high level monsters when we're level 1? What are they doing?

If we only encounter traps when there's someone in the party specialized in disarming them, why should we have that character in the party?

If later in the game we hire someone that can disable traps, do traps start existing? Where did they come from? Who built them?

Unironic skill issue.

Ways to troll your players?
>PCs visits a noble
>They get on pretty well
>Noble offers the most socially awkward member of the party a concubine for the night
>PC refuses, not wanting to seem MISOGYNISTIC in front of OTHER PEOPLE
>Noble says "That's all right, I'll send a boy instead".

It's the concubine you refused.
>>
>>97412220
how is that a shit taste? my PC would ask for both at the same time
>>
>>97412220
Breh, If I was socially awkward, and was offered a concubine, you better believe I'm saying yes to that offer.
>>misogyny
Huh? Accepting the services of a professional working girl has nothing to do with hating women.

Seems pretty sexist of you to assume that said PC wouldn't be into either of them, OP
