how after so many fucking years there's not a compilation of actually useful, compressive worldbuilding resources? there's next to 0 guides out there on how to do anything that is not the blandest dnd clone ever and not even in deep, just superficial trash. is worldbuilding a lost technology among nerds?
There are dozens of youtube channels, websites, forums, threads including on this board, redzits, discords, and whatever your preferred platform for opinions. Hell, there are probably full books on the subject. How about you look shit up and put in the bare minimum to inform yourself instead of whining that no one is spoonfeeding you.

I was looking a lot into 3rd edition, because im a steel legion player, and 3rd is when they released ASLSecondly, what are the drawbacks and benefits of the different editions? Ive only ever played 10th edition, so im pretty clueless when it comes to the older stuffThanks in advance!
>>97841743Ah, classic way to keep the thread afloat. I'm a steel legion player too and play exclusively 2nd edition, the best edition. You might like 3rd, 3.5, or 4th better if you enjoy simple and straight forward games instead of large pile of different templates, cards and random tables. 2nd isn't as wild as RT but more compressed and familiar with codexes. 2nd is also lot smaller in scale than what ever came after it. It will thought require a quite a bit of work to get started since you'd need a lot of different cards and templates but everything can be found online. FFR this is oldhammer and retro thread, so it's alright to talk about 3rd for example. Welcome aboard.

So I bought the hardcopy of this to use as a source book because fuck playing 3.5, but also damn this book got me when I was younger. Has anyone actually run The Mecha Hack or Aether Nexus? If Y, were they functional or even f u n? I'm thinking of ways to get my group who primarily prefer ruleslite games into this besides strapping them to chairs and watching escaflowne until they like it.
This may be an appropriate place to post this. I am foreshadowing a threat from deeper in the dungeon that I'm writing and have found that there doesn't appear to be a B/X statblock for an Aboleth. I checked my AD&D Monster Manual and Fiend Folio and didn't see it there either, but I did find it in my 2e AD&D monster manual. My question is, how much (if at all) do I need to tweak a statblock from 2e in order to fit B/X, or would I be better off just homebrewing from scrap? I understand that certain elements (like XP) are very different and am prepared to adjust those, I'm just wondering if anyone is familiar with any weird trends (like AD&D2e creatures having lower AC or better attacks on average). Google searches exclusively tried to tell me about 5e statblocks.

We had our first game of Fitna yesterday. Syrian civil war of 2012. History was altered as the rebels took over Assad in a brutal conflict. It was fun once the players got the hang of it, I was personally acting as an umpire. One thing that I was left wondering about was the card draw you get from playing the Reinforcements event card. If you draw another event card, can you just keep playing those events or do you have to declare all your events at once and then if you draw any extra those can be used later to generate OP or saved for future turns? It seemed really strong and swingy to chain-draw 3+ reinforcements in a turn into 3 more events. Any Middle-East war veterans here to weight in?

Haven't gotten many reps in with this deck, but I'm steadily tweaking it. I like Haunted One decks for less supported tribes in that they require you to work toward the tribe's synergies rather than jamming in the 20 best lords or whatever. But the deck as-is needs a lot of tweaks. It's pretty low on instant-speed interaction. The slow bottleneck of getting your commander out and then your background guarantees that you've got two "dead" turns before you can start setting up for undying plays vs. your opponents.Incidentally the deck also loses a lot of life. As it turns out warriors just have random you lose a life, draw a card effects. And the only real life gain in the deck is also its strongest wincon. Not quite sure what to put in to make it a bit more consistent, or even what I'd be comfortable cutting since there's a lot of "cute" includes.
>>97841940>We are arguing whether Gavin's take is sensible or notIt is sensible that your claim of paradox engine and mld being two different things is actually arbitrary and gavin just so happens to not differentiate between them, sorry about that

>>97840619Looks simple-ish enough, actually.Prana is the stand-in for magical energy of other systems and settings, but more integrated into the world, so you can't just up and banish it from an area without killing everything inside.Mantras are the verbal, and mudras are the somatic components, and yantras are the local take on magical circles. It's all facets of the same system.>>97840592One thing I don't get is the Maya thing. What do you mean by cosmic illusion and illusory realities? Is it just an illusion over the real world? Or is the real world an illusion too, and you simply swap parts for some of your own making?I mean, the latter kinda fits the "Matrix-style" description. Also, magic is mostly subtle and monk-like, I presume?
>>97840195A lot of the animals are different from earth animals in my setting. The few that are unchanged are stuff like rodents, insects, and birds. The main exception are a few random domestic animals that live exclusively within settlements. Everything else follows two main strategies of surviving in the wilds with monsters being a thing. Being durable enough to fight monsters offOr being very very good at evading monsters. Some, like boulder bears, use both strategies depending on the threat level of the monsters in the area. Like if it's a human sized monster with nothing really special about it, the boulder bear will probably stand their ground and fight to disable the monster enough that it's no longer a serious threat. But a very dangerous monster the boulder bear will curl up and use it's natural camouflage to look like a big rock in the hopes the monster will pass through without noticing it. Another example is quite a few snakes have developed octopus like camo that not only changes color but also texture to REALLY blend in.
>>97840882>One thing I don't get is the Maya thing. What do you mean by cosmic illusion and illusory realities?>Is it just an illusion over the real world? We are simply seeing an abstraction, a mistake of the senses. Like being trapped in an illusion or a VR simulation.Or in more practical terms, the Matrix as a metaphysical framework.
>>97841284Okay, that covers the Matrix-like nature, and it's pretty cool, but where does the magic of the system fit in exactly?Like, in Matrix itself, people could pull stuff off by the virtue of, basically, hacking the system. Is that what this world's magic does for people? Also, *is* there a real world? Like, a physical realm, or is it all illusions or dreams of some godhead?

Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. Humans are the only ones who know how to fight/love sex/survive/etc. How can we save the genre or reinvent it so it isn't so stale?
You guys claim to exalt in humanity no matter what form it takes, but I firmly reject such a stance. I believe being human is a quality and not just a physical matter of fact. If you are human, and don't act in a way that befits the ideal of humanity as something great, if you debase yourself, lower yourself to the behavior of something foul and less than human, something utterly spitting on and squandering the gift and potential of being born human, I simply cannot consider the loss of something corrupt in such a way to be "hatred of humanity."
