In theory I like completely freewheeling negotiation games more, but as said find them exhausting and often longwinded. Same reason I hate the kingmaking hot potato; games just grind to a halt.

Finished off the missile drones and airbrushed the white onto my sub assemblies for a broadside. Just waiting for it to dry and I should finish painting it tonight.
did this yesterday. it's hot flouro pink irl but the camera wants it to be red
doin up this one today. my paints are looking a bit grim
First time in months I genuinely want to abandon miniature and admit it defeated me, being too hard for me to finish. After washes started to work on skin and white (sort of, it's supposed to be white but it will be left this green-like) but I constantly go over the area, strokes are clearly visible and I have actual physical problems focusing my eyes on where brush is supposed to go, sometimes getting double vision if I won't focus back.

I feel like there are very few opportunities to tell interesting stories with elves because they're elves. It usually boils down to "elf is old" or "elf hates dwarves". That goes for Frieren, Dungeon Meshi and even tLotR.How do you deal with that to set them apart? What makes elves cool besides them being magical and long lived?

Happy Easter Sunday everyone on /tg/! To celebrate, how do the people in your settings celebrate the changing of the seasons, especially winter to spring? And what mystical significance do said holidays or even the seasons themselves hold? Does the goddess of spring get summoned by the rites, does the magic of the seasons affect how spells are cast, do special beasts show up to herald the seasons, etc.? In my world, every spring temples are deep cleaned and sermons are conducted outside, a whole little festival taking place, especially with the larger temples, the gods often stopping by incognito.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:>n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0>Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128Comment too long. I started to list reasons but realized they were all ultimately the same one. I do think that there are some things Khosura does better, such as the proportion of empty rooms, but if I say something like "Castle Xyntillan is a bit too much of a monster zoo for my tastes" it comes off as deranged, because it's not actually a problem that Xyntillan has, both are excellent examples of module design and the map of Xyntillan is basically unbeaten as a plausible castle (compare e.g. Castle Amber with its absolutely dogshit map). It's only in comparison with something of the caliber of Khosura that you can even notice the issue, which at that point is a matter of taste. So yeah, I fundamentally prefer it because I like sword & sorcery/Fomalhaut better. Both are great modules however, well worth the money.

Okay so I'm confused. So the 2e guy is the fishfag, and he's doing purely to troll and not because he likes 2e? Is he the same guy who shits up any attempt to make a thread that allows 2e? Or am I attributing too much to one guy?

>>97842294>So the 2e guy is the fishfag, and he's doing purely to troll and not because he likes 2e?Yes.>Is he the same guy who shits up any attempt to make a thread that allows 2e?That is correct. The existence of a functional 2e thread threatens his ability to wreck this one (already extremely weak). A few /2eg threads back he was openly trying to recruit posters there into his personal army to raid this thread instead because he wants to force 2e in here where it's never belonged. Being normal, they told him to fuck off.
>mimimi, humans don't have their own feature, mimimi, we have to invent somethingNecromancy right here. When was the last time you saw non-human necromancer, lich or vampire? That's right, they practically don't exist because other races are simply inferior when it comes to necromancy and those non-human undead are so pathetic that everyone forgets about their existence in 5 minutes . Except for that one orc, but even he understood that he was worthless and therefore got himself a human body to finally become a full-fledged lich. So yes, here is your feature humans - necromancy, you know that I am right, you can't run away from the truth forever.
>>97816513Warhammer fantasy has the best take on necromancy as a "Human thing" because only human beings have the right combination of short lifespan, and relative magical aptitude, to make it seem like a good use of your time.Elves look at necromancy and go "I'm good": they don't wanna get a permanent case of shit-face from freebasing congealed Dhar scraped off the floor of an Altdorf toilet stall.
>>97816903Literally the only nonhuman necromancer I can think of is Sauron
Why would an elf need to expand their life by becoming a lich?
>>97840110why wouldn't all humans become liches?
>>97816513Besides undead birds as spies, and undead horses and oxen as tireless beasts of burden, what undead animals would be most useful to a necromancer? I can see undead monkeys as assistants for instance.

After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. 40kuck and it's consequences have been a disaster for the wargaming hobby.
>>97836273>I don't get the point of this thread. We know. And that's part of the problem.
yes, obviously, left looks better than right, no one is going to disagree with that. but when playing a GAME, right is obviously going to be a funner experience for BOTH sides, just look at the utter lack of balance in the left terrain set up. the near side has to traverse a river and then fight through open fields while the far side immediately gets access to most the hard cover of buildings on the map and on top of that gets the hedgerows overlooking the open fields. its blatantly not fair and poorly set up.>but just give the attack side more units!ok then, how do you balance that? how do you know how many points to allocate to balance out the terrain advantage? double? triple? what if thats too much and now the attacker has the distinct advantage? its way too much trouble to figure out. thats why tourney tables will always provide the better gameplay experience for BOTH sides. GAMEplay. WarGAMES. These are GAMES. A good game needs to be fun for all involved. It is not fun when one side has an inherent advantage over the other. There is a reason why 40k tournaments are by and far the most popular wargaming events and playstyle over every single alternative."Think of it this way. Look at Battletech players. They arguably play on the ugliest paper hex mats and hex counter terrain in wargaming, despite the fact that playing BT with physical and 3d terrain has existed for decades. They CHOOSE the uglier terrain because readability and clear rules for LOS matter to gameplay, aesthetics do not.
>>97842106See, its the same spam. They're out of content to shitpost with but still have to keep doing it. Its their job. Funding cuts to content generation department maybe. There was a massive posting dieoff after the last american election. Might be just bot farming so it can only repost archive scrapes.
>>97842118I've never concealed that that is a post I have saved to repost when I want, because it's a strong argument and no one has ever been able to logically disprove it, and I will continue to repost it as long as /tg/ continues to throw hissy fits over tournament terrain. Funny how you bitch about me reposting my argument, but I don't see you bitching about the constant spammed hatred against tournament play
40k and wargaming has zero overlap at this point. You can complain about it poisoning your well of rich and thriving wargame community, but be aware that while there may have been a shared consumer base in the past, that just isn't the case anymore.
