Do you read the source material or just let some e-celeb yawn on about whatever garbage they want to spin?
>>973978732eMythic isn't even a Tall Poppy Syndrome, it is just underbaked. They did not fully playtest or fleshed out these ideas. So it is left in a weird, awkward halfstep between Epic Level Handbook and 1e "We Didn't Even Know What We Were Making" that not even 2efags like.>>97397873we get it, you want to play Mutants & Masterminds, not actually play anything useful>>97397889Operative was just going to have Legendary Strikes. They were the only class in 1e that got 4 full attacks at base, something that not even Soldier got. And with 2e Soldier being the Heavy Weapons Guy with Legendary DCs and James Bond With a Rocket Launcher is way more incongruent than either Han Solo or John Halo, it pretty much the only thing that made sense to do. At its core, you gonna play Starfinder for the guns, this is the gun class. I can't really change your feelings, but mandate or not, I don't know what they really could be if Space Rogue and Better Ranger was out of the table (and arguably they still end up the best of both worlds, jank feature set or not).
>>97397982The funny thing about Soldier is that I am in fact kind of annoyed by the change, but the end result is actually something I think is actually interesting and unique mechanically, so I can begrudgingly accept it in all its kind of overloaded glory (it took me until now to realize Soldier didn't get Greater Weapon Specialization at level 15-that's the only thing it DOESN'T seem to get lmao).I know I have to just live with Operative in its current, powerful as fuck state, but that doesn't mean I have to think it's a well designed class. Fuck's sake, if anything it's just the arbitrary "better gunslinger/ranger in space" instead of "space rogue", now, which feels EVEN MORE of a design fuckup given Gunslinger is the butt of jokes even on reddit, and Ranger has to struggle against people constantly asking "what do you even do?"
New player here (pretty new to TTRPGs in general, played like 3 sessions of DnD5e two years ago)I've heard people talking about how the P2e has a lot of tactical depth thanks to the 3 action economy and how you should try to inflict an asymmetric action cost on the enemies, but how do you actually do that? If I use an action to walk away from a guy attacking me, he'll use one action to catch up so I don't feel like that would gain me anything. Tripping an enemy is 1 action but they also need only one action get back up so it's the same here. I'm sure there are options where it actually pays off, I'm just not sure what they are.
>>97398802Ohh, wait a second. But if I'm surrounded by 3 guys and use one action to walk away, it will cost them 3 action in total to catch back up. I think I'm learning
>>97398802>>97398806Also on that note, our party is currently missing a ranged class, so I'm probably just building a fighter with a bow.I want to prep before the game and write down some useful actions I can do during encounters so I don't just stand there and shoot arrows for all of my three actions (I hated how boring our fights in 5e were). Any pointers what I should look into? There are a lot of them from the looks of it.
We have all experienced the coming and going so GMs, Players and games; and then left holding the bag too start all over again at Square One. If and when you have to start over from scratch how and where (online) would you start I'll look for groups and games? There has been numerous reasons that would force someone to start all over again be it scheduling, life, work, people changing.
Start over in current year? I don't. I take one look at the low quality garbage that focuses entirely on pandering and realize its not a good hobby.
>>97350211Only if you are friendless loser that any actual table would vet out right before even meeting for the first game. Which is part of the reason why nobody sane wants to play online - the only players out there are (You)s
>>97349305Unironically Critical Role, get hyped, join a game, isn't what I expected, learn to love it anyway: Is how I think it would go.
>>97386118Looks like we have a no games in the thread.

It seems as though it's been a good thread for games, so I may as well contribute too. I played a 2000 point game against dread Cathay today, the first game of the new year, in fact, and it was a pretty great time all things considered. The usual suspects made up my army, but this was also the debut for both my daemon prince, Dehumanizer, who was wielding the Rod of the Damned, the Tome of the Dark Gods, the Armour of Meteoric Iron, and a favour of the gods, as well as my exalted champion, Ormos, who held the Cackling Blade and two favours of the gods. My opponent brought a rather toned-down Cathay list, by his own estimation, with a shugengan lord, a gate master with the monkey stick, whatever the BSB is called, one of those accursed cannons that can shoot twice and also apparently remove swiftstride and impose -1 movement for a turn, a block of jade warriors, two blocks of jade lancers, a sentinel that can cast a fireball at +3 (why can it do this, GW?), and the much-feared sky lantern without the drive-by bombs. Dehumanizer was using the lore of daemonology and rolled Daemonic Vessel and replaced the other 3 crap spells he got with The Summoning, the Blue Fire of Tzeentch, and Fleshy Abundance thanks to the TotDG. Quorthon had a lore familiar and took SoS and both DVs. Apparently Cathay can take High Magic, so that's what my opponent had. Isn't that supposed to be a high elf & lizardmen thing? It doesn't really matter, let's get on to the actual game.
>>97398741As always, I deployed like a donkey. My thought process involved my hounds starting the battle in a marching column so they could zoom across the battlefield & get in the way of stuff, but this backfired spectacularly as you'll see later. I have no idea why I put my knights there, they were set up for failure from the start. My other units were more or less fine, but I keep making the mistake of deploying my chariot wrong and not being able to get any value out of it. Meanwhile, my opponent clearly knew what he was doing because I can't find any mistakes in his deployment. I took the first turn and the shenanigans began.
>>97398780While my dogs were busy getting mulched by the shugengan lord and his stupid deer-dragon-horse mount and my daemon prince was obliterating the sky lantern with a constant barrage of magic missiles, my chaos warrior death star, which had taken heavy losses from both the sky lantern's shooting and cannon fire, made a stand on the hill in the center of the board and got double-charged by a unit of jade lancers and the sentinel. Ormos rolled a six on the Cackling Blade's attack roll twice in a row, taking two wounds as a result, and proceeded to peel the jade lancer champion like a potato in a single round of combat before proceeding to annihilate the rest of the unit alongside his fellow slaves to darkness. Quorthon continued his streak of somehow failing to do the one thing he exists to do and barely managed to eke out a single casting of Daemonic Vigour. You continue to fail me, Quorthon. Perhaps a new sorcerer ought to take the reins. Anyway, though the jade lancers were slain to a man, the sentinel was pushed back without suffering a single wound. Said sentinel would proceed to get charged by my forsaken next turn, who attacked the giant statue eighteen times and somehow managed to inflict not a single wound on it, and stomped all five of the pathetic fools to a fine paste in a single round of combat. This catastrophic failure would result in the sentinel overrunning into my chariot, which obviously did not go well and was a sign that I was quickly losing control of the game.

Some can still be found on Ebay, but pickings are slim.Mutant Chronicles Warzone (first and second edition) can still be purchased through Prince August, but they don't have the full range, but they've got more than enough to play.Warzone Eternal is the newest iteration of the game and can be purchased via Trenchworx, but you'll be buying a Snaptray. Everytime I play a character in Mork Borg I have a blast. I think it's the perfect mix of over the top edgyness and the fact that the characters are by default crude and stinky assholes that brings out the magic at the table. In my experience even first timers or inexperienced gamers hop on the wagon like I've never seen them do in other kinds of games. >>97398682Mythos was somewhat popular in the 90s. After that fantasy flight made a card game for Call of Cthulhu that later became an LCG then it died.Nowadays Arkham Horror is the most popular Cthulhu mythos game.It is an LCG that every player picks an investigator and makes a deck for it. The game mix board(card as locations)+miniatures(or tokens for the investigators) with action&equipment cards (things that your investigator uses). The game is players vs environment (mythos deck) where you pick an adventure and the deck for it play the hole of antagonists and challenges for the players. The game also has a campaign like mode where adventures are connected and players carry over things from one adventure to the next until they finish the storyline.
>>97398482>Lorcana Yes, there was a shortage of Lorcana when the first set came out. I recall having to got to multiple Toys r Us stores (I'm in Canada, we still have those) because they were limiting customers to 2 boosters per visit/day, and having to call around to half a dozen LCS to try to track down stock. They were difficult to get well into the 2nd set, when they reprinted set 1.

Ah yes, the magnificat. That grand new primaris organ which not only enhanced standard space marines, but conveniently corrected that rather irritating compatibility flaw they once suffered from.Cope however you like. After the femstodes precedent, this outcome is inevitable and you know it.
>>97395563How do the primaris organs "fix" the older organs? Like, the organs are implanted one after another over a long period of time, so how do the primaris organs (one of which is just metal cables) make the other organs work differently in the jar they're being kept?Lets assume they magically "fix" the "flaw", how do the organs work now? The whole idea is they enhance the natural development during puberty. Men and women go through different puberties with different hormones and growth patterns. So do the organs just make women go through super woman puberty and become extra feminine?
>>97395563How many threads like this will we make? We all know it will happen sooner or later. Companies spitting on developed lore to pander to a wider audience is nothing new. Hell, it's the norm. What's the point on reminding everyone at this point? It's not going to change anything.
>>97395563You know it's strange. I don't want femstodes/femarines but I love huge, burly, warrior women. Is it the pandering and lack of backbone that I hate or is it the absence of thematic coherence associated with adding women into a fraternal organization of ascetic warrior priests? Mixed sex groups like this do not bother me in other pieces of media so why does it here?
>>97398340if /yourdudes/ include female marines, whatever you're probably a fag but yeah
>>97398746If I bothered with Marines, then yeah, they'd be Female, but that would practically be at the point of creating my own fucking game with how much homebrewing I'd want to do.
Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. >>97398060Reading this module and it seems great so far - in fact I’m wondering if a description of a hypothetical downed ship in the 3.5 Dungeon Master’s Guide draws on this. For anyone that has run Expedition to the Barrier Peaks 1) How easily is it adapted for B/X and 2) I feel like showing the illustrations when instructed kind of gives the game away very quickly. Does anybody have any ideas?
>>97397995The game Worlds Without Number was supposedly inspired in part by BotNS, but that's a system and not a setting or module. Fomalhaut is a setting with science-fantasy aspects, but it's very dissimilar from either Vance or Wolfe, and is more like a cynical orientalist pulp setting – Harryhausen's Sinbad movies and Lamb's Khlit the Cossack stories come close, I think.Anomalous Subsurface Environment is a never-completed megadungeon set in a postapocalyptic sci-fantasy wasteland, but again it's less Wolfe and more Gamma World; Mad Max meets Mad Magazine. These are the closest things I can think of offhand, but to be honest, I think you'll struggle to find anything that replicates Wolfe's baroque strangeness.
>>97398493>I feel like showing the illustrations when instructed kind of gives the game away very quickly.Yes and no. If you read the descriptions and look at the illustrations of the various items, you'll probably notice that they're deliberately created to trick people into misidentifying them on the basis of their familiarity with Star Trek and such, so they take the devices' functions for granted and zap themselves in the face with lasers. The illustrations showing the players that they're clearly onboard a flying saucer are part of the setup for these other illustrations with which to mislead them.
>>97398065if you are the anon and not samefagging, do NOT read the "n00b guide"The document as a whole pushes a skewed, innacurate view of the OSR, was written by someone who's clearly biased towards AD&D/OSRIC to an unhealthy degree, and is also a hitpiece on anything not outside of the authors narrow one true wayism.
>>97398769I find his attempted explanations as to why his one way is supposed to be "the true way" funny though. There's so much left on the table, like he's desperately begging people not to raise any questions. He's such a cart-before-horse thinker that everything he wrote can be summed up as "This is how I personally started playing and I've never questioned anything beyond that first impression." Like those guys who argue that [thing that was realeased when they were twelve years old] is objectively the greatest [thing] of all time.
