It can’t just be about the money because during the TSR era they shoved all the artists like Brom into one room and made them work for peanuts.

What I disliked most about 4e art was that 90% of the images were of characters brandishing a weapon or engaged in combat.

Pretty sure Ditty made his bones drawing Monstrous Manual art first, but either way he admits himself that he was fresh out of art school, so he could hardly expect to make Big 4 money, no. I think by the time he got Planescape as an effectively solo project he must've been making more, however, since at that point his art was an actual draw, a selling point.

I want to play a ridiculously overpowered version of RT or DH where the party is essentially allowed to use any single-unit model they personally own as a player character.
Full Terminator Armor? Sure why not, let's see if we can't update you to Dreadnought by the end of the campaign.
Ymgarl Genestealer? Sure why not, go stand next to the Terminator, you guys will get along like Alien and Predator.
Greater Unclean One!? Fuck yeah, we need a guy with spunk like you to hold the sacred Writ of Trade! One of them must have had a Gellar Field failure at some point or another.

We don't really need to homebrew this stuff, but I just got the chance to skim the Inquisition GM's Book for Imperium Maledictum and I'm shocked that they imported all the Radical tendencies from the Radical's Handbook. Come on, now. The Macharian Sector is on the other side of Terra from the Calixis Sector; why would Ocularians or Phaenonites be present there? At least give them Macharian-specific names!

I came up with some Puritan and Radical factions for my own sector, though we only ever dealt with two of them and the rest never had to be mentioned. They're not super unique, but at least they were original. Couldn't C7 have paid for 4 or 5 unique names?

>THE BLACK BADGE
A minor Puritan faction with fewer than a dozen Inquisitors and Interrogators, the Black Badge's ranks are filled exclusively with former Arbitrators and Imperial legal prelates. The Black Badges are identified solely by the mailed fist emblem they stamp upon their bolt casings. Though publicly they may declare a false allegiance to one or no faction at all, the Black Badges are united by their past experience as lawbearers in rooting out corruption and taint amongst the great of the Imperium.

>MAGISTERIANS
Of a kind with other minor factions found wherever the influence of the Inquisition waxes strong, Magisterian Inquisitors propose that, as they already wield ultimate power, they should rule the Imperium itself.

>HOMO VERITAS
Little regarded by most Inquisitors, Homo Veritas is a faction teetering on the knife's edge of acceptability. Unwilling to abandon Mankind to its fate, the Inquisitors of this minor and isolated faction have a special interest in the abhuman and mutant underclass of the sector. Given their taint and greater vulnerability to heretical and malefic influences, Inquisitors should spend as much or more time within their accursed hovels as among the hives of the untainted.

It's like I was born with a set amount of soulful creative energy and I used it all up. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm going back to school and the local game store will actually pay you to be a DM, so I was thinking of running an open-table west marches game there but I just don't have energy or creativity to do that. I'm already running a couple of campaigns but only maybe once a month.

Is this how it's gonna be for the rest of my life? How do I break out of this?

>You just constantly had new ideas? Didn't pluck them from anywhere or get inspiration from anything?
I did get inspiration but often I couldn't tell where it was from. I still go on hikes, walks, still look at new art and watch things. But there was this spark inside me and 5 years of 5 hours a night sleep and factory wagecucking feels like it demolished what creative talent I used to have. Not "talent" like it was anything special, but sufficient to be a good GM and come up with original campaigns that weren't just rehashing some video game or movie.

>What you are asking for and what you are saying you want to do with it are on opposite ends you can't have both without serious work ethic which you clearly lack.
What do you mean? In terms of the games, I used to run that amount of sessions all the time. I would run 2 different campaigns in the same day, back to back. We'd play one in the early afternoon, then switch to another when our friend got off work in the evening. One was superheroes, the other was D&D-esque. I did this for years.

That's true for the most part. I remember in how Diocletian and Constantine in the Horus Heresy novels were just rude assholes who never did any real diplomacy. However, I read this novel "Gate of Bones" and it features 3 Custodes who singlehandedly rally an army of Guard and Sisters to fight-off a Chaos Marine invasion. They actually use their minds and diplomacy, playing into the Sisters' fanaticism in order to get them to do what they want (there's a funny scene of the Sisters fangirling over them, and they mock them on their internal voxes, but decide to go along with it). They also use their logistics/planning skills to tell the Guard colonel what to do.

What is a good tabletop RPG that is easy to run and prep for someone who is a new gm but has experience playing in games before?
24 replies and 3 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>97392250
The dungeon also forces you into prepping best habits. You put the room there. You should have set direction for the room. I'm not saying to write florid descriptions, but you need at least some set direction that says what's there, and how it can mechanically be interacted with.

I agree that agendas provide the best framework for improvisation at the table.i just think that as a rule, improvised material is lower quality than prepared material, and you're doing your players a disservice if you don't write set direction where you can.
>>
This is an amazing starter RPG, as is anything within the "End of the World" system. Prep is easy too
>Gather friends to play
>"There are zombies outside the house right now and trying to break in, what do you do?"
Fun part is if they manage to survive the initial outbreak there's whole sections to deal with long term campaigns.

Let's just say I love white, anon.

(I would assume, say, two experienced Paranoia players in the group can steer the group into the right mindset. But while Paranoia isn't complex, it definitely has a style that the GM should be conveying).

Frenopolis is a gamified tetragrammaton clothed in the memetic zeitgeist.

This thread is for discussion and development logging.

It's easiest to learn with YGO/MTG experience.

It's not for sale, but you can request a free physical 2-player 90 card set by following the instructions in the description of this video:
https://youtu.be/oPoBUoagO_k
(No payment or identifying info required)

Playmats have arrived and will be sent out with the playtesting kits. Anyone who already received a set with the shipping label name "Current Resident" should be receiving one by 1/10/26. If your shipping label was not sent to "Current Resident", email or DM me on telegram so I can send you one.

Instead of a quantitative stat to track/set the win condition (like mtg's life, ygo's LP), the cards themselves can be used, similar to pokemon's prize cards, duel master's shields, or digimon's securities. The major advantage to this not needing extra accessories to play the game.

With pokemon, both players start with 6 prize cards, and then draw them when they KO the other player's pokemon. This leads the player who is gaining more advantage to gain even more advantage.

Duel masters and digimon solve this by treating the prize cards as shields, and instead have the disadvantaged player draw the card to facilitate catching up.

A similar form of this can be implemented in frenopolis, but in reverse of duel masters/digimon: instead of starting with a pool of prize/security/shield cards, you can instead build up to them, and this building process can fluctuate.

Because the color pie is so strictly defined in frenopolis, each card type can be treated as the element it belongs to. An obvious win condition would be to capture 1 of each element (elemental equilibrium).

For example:

You could get the:
Fire Element:
by removing an Entity (Fire) in combat

The player who had their Entity (Fire) removed, would either:
1.) Put the face-down card in their avatar's fire element zone into their Hand.
2.) If they don't have one, then they draw a card from their deck.

This way there is both a catch-up mechanic for gaining disadvantage, and also a tug-of-war/back and forth for the establishment of the win condition, vaguely similar to digimon's resource system combined with duel master's shield system. There is also additional level of strategy to deprive the other player of an element they need (which can only be prolonged until they directly attack you). You would win by building up to 4 “prize” cards, one of each element. It also opens up significant design space based on avatar equilibrium.

This allows for the removal of the generic card draw effect on all avatars, extra game accessories, tuning/balancing of avatar's time/life stat, and also the avatar's stat and symbol. It requires giving structure's stat (formerly equilibrium) a new name.

picrel is how you would denote equilibrium. shown would be a win condition, all 4 elements.

did some playtesting with this change, it's good. it requires changing some effects that change avatar time (no defunct stat) to effects that interact with avatar equilibrium. this win condition adds a unique and interesting dimension to gameplay. much better than a quantitative stat imo. games last about 30-40min.

Seconding this. In the book for the official RPG, they even cite Algonquin, Inuit, and Anishinaabe origins for example names for characters from the Water Tribe.

Members of the Foggy Swamp Tribe instead have names a little more in line with those found in the Earth Kingdom, but also with some Khmer examples.

That's interesting, never talked to someone who played a political campaign. Tell me more.

The court intrigue in Apothecary Diaries seems a bit underplayed, like it's there but it's mostly just happening in the background for MaoMao to react to.

i dunno what's going on with this Reddit/Puck stuff.

but to answer the question, look at Gumshoe and the whole Three Clue Rule thing (The Alexandrian has a good article).

or for keeping track of movings and shakings in e.g. a medieval fantasy or space travel campaign, check the faction rules in Kevin Crawford's games.

A friend had way too many players wanting to get in a game so he decided to do a court thing. All the PCs had important positions and personal agendas. The real kicker was that only the GM knew what everybody actually wanted, so there was a very cool sense of actual paranoia. In the end, my character and his brother ended up simultaneously poisoning each other at a feast due to an argument over succession rights. Turns out we had come up with the exact same plot and thought it was too smart for anyone to figure out
