Considering rewording this section, which wording is better? The original boxed in green, or the hand written version in blue?

Lastly, I'm a little confused by LOS can't be drawn through more than 6" of area terrain. So if the unit being targeted *behind* the area terrain is sitting behind a piece of area terrain with a footprint greater than 6", they cannot be targeted? This might get confusing, especially if the footprint has different widths.

For instance, in the picture, are you okay to shoot so long as ANY part of the target is not protected by 6" of area terrain depth? What if the distance measured to the target model to pass through <6" area terrain is outside of range, however, the closer distance (through >6" area terrain) is within range?

You have to prepare yourself for utterly autistic navel gazing.
>>
>>97227068
>anyone playing wargames are going to insist on absolutely autistic specificity when it comes to rule descriptions
This cannot be understated. "Autism" isn't even a strong enough word to describe it, "Literal Lawyer from Hell" isn't enough to describe it, I would sooner trust a fucking gypsy to return a £10 note the next day than to trust a wargamer to follow the intention of a clearly-written rule.

Thank you for the detailed reply, it took me a while to address your points.

Aurtism-proofing the rules is very hard but I'm slowly working my way through, that's actually kinda what I'm doing here. LoS rules are one of those things that no one ever reads because we all "know how it works", but I still think its important to capture the actual rules correctly on these gritty details that make up the foundation for the game. That said I do think that its a fools errand to object-orient every single detail into keywords like some people try; rules through intent and context are much easier to both understand and learn without a teacher than when the rules come across as a reference document. There is a fine balance I'm trying to walk.

Ill try to go through your points. But lets start with
>reasonably be said to be
For the sake of these line of sight rules, lets establish the assumption that elsewhere I have rules governing the abstraction of a models ability to occupies any of the space that its base resides on. In this regards you could for instance have a small trooper hide up along side a buttress of a ruined building in a manner a larger creature of mech could not.

Similarly the stuff about ignoreing terrain features is covered elsewhere, where it specifies that with area terrain its actually ok to pick up and move about the identifying bits (for instance trees) in order to actually reach and move your models. I should have been more clear about that part, thats why I didnt talk about it in the blue re-write.
>>
>>97227068
>>97227080

>When firing at targets behind (but not inside) the area terrain, does *any* part of the model count?
This is a good point and I will make sure to clean it up. I actually see that what I have is in error with my intent, which is to use the same rules as if it were a brick wall, to say it follows rules for being partially obscured (an already defined term). As they are now you could actually form an edge case where being outside but with your toe behind the feature would grant you protections while stepping your toe in would not. Good catch.

>In general, if there are different circumstances that can apply the same condition, split these up into different sentences.
In this case of line of sight through area terrain, which I define as if a "uniform fog", there are four main cases to think of that I can identify.
>unit A shoots unit B, both in the same area terrain piece.
>unit A shoots at unit B who is within their own area terrain
>unit A shoots at unit B who is behind some intervening area terrain
>unit A shoots from within area terrain at unit B who is exposed.
Of these cases only the last one should result in unit B gaining no benefit from the area terrains protection.
I think the first two cases can be combined into the statement that says so long as the target is within area terrain they gain the bonus, the attackers position is not a variable here.
For case three we need to govern intervening terrain. And the rule for case four which dictates that terrain you (the firer) are within doesnt count as intervening. Since being inside the terrain does not depend on terrain intervening, the rules for case 1 and case 4 do not contradict one another.

That said thank you for your suggestion on the through terrain part. I get criticism for being overly verbose so recently I have been trying to prune things down, but that is never worth it if the cost is being confusing.

>For instance, in the picture, are you okay to shoot so long as ANY part of the target is not protected by 6" of area terrain depth?
The general rules for line of sight in the general principles chapter state that so long as you can draw uninterrupted LoS to part of a target then you are ok. So in this case 6" of area terrain behaves exactly like a brick wall would. To determine LoS you would draw rays from the firer to the target, and if any of them can connect you have LoS. In the case of varying widths (like a roaming forest) I suppose you would just need to measure carefully.

This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

Good insight!
Personally, I like using the mm2 gaze attack table because it makes the ability feel *feel* more deadly, while actually making it slightly easier, and rewarding/punishing shielding and surprise, respectively.

Tangentially, do you prefer active attack gaze, or 'always on'? I think always-on is better with the table, and active attack is better without it.

But then, do you make an active gaze attack against *everyone*, or one target, or a cone, etc?
>>
Im thinking about making the roll for a WM happen each turn rather than every other turn, but rather than a guaranteed WM per se, it will be a roll on a table, with a possible monster.
tentatively:
1-2 Monster
3-4 Sign of monster
5 Haphazard (brick falls on head, etc)
6 Misleading sign of monster

Not looking to reinvent the wheel, just shaking up my play a bit.

>How do you run Fish People in your games?
Fish people are one of my favorite enemy types in general. Most of the time I have them either on a coast or they will climb up and attack boats that are sailing near their lairs. I think soon I will recreate a Shadow over Innsmouth for my players.

>Fangs like Daggers of Frost
>>
>>97213882
The fighting started completely unexpectedly. Lancel had just begun to walk forward to meet the headman of the southern force when shots rang out from the forest. One of the sharpshooters had believed he had a perfect shot but a pale blue light pushed Lancel just in time to cause the bullet to shatter upon his right shoulder. Immediately both sides charged into battle.
Lancel quickly slaughtered the leading brigand then immediately charged towards the sharpshooters knowing his righteous protections would shield him from their fire. He moved unusually fast for a fully armored knight, brushing off shots like flies in the summer. He managed to kill a handful of the sharpshooters before the rest fully broke and ran. After taking a breathe for a second he realized he could not hear any fighting, and standing beside him was a poor little lost lamb.

After hearing him speak human words, Skogsra looks down in destructive indifference at Howler for a second before speaking.
>Intent given form by the forest. I will know you now.
Thorned branches splice out of nearby trees digging themselves into Howler's back forcing him down on one knee. He feels them burrow excruciatingly slowly through his flesh, winding their way around his spine until suddenly the pain stops. A few seconds later the plants fall away but within he can feel the vines still wrapped around his bones. He goes to stand when a flood of his memories overwhelm his mind. He wakes up with a headache after some unknown time has passed. He snarls and whips around looking for the entity, when his own internal monologue speaks to him.
>Now tell me, why are you here?

Lancel might have survived the battle, but his army was not so lucky. The combination of sharpshooters and properly motivated soldiers lead the marauders to winning the battle. They cut the militia down until the last man; the banner bearer standing, tired and injured.

How do you run an all dwarf campaign

I kind of like the thought of northern Italian dwarves. Think renaissance Italy but instead of city states you have dwarf holds. Medicis banking system is just the interhold banking clan now expanding to accept human deposits/accounts and this break in traditional exclusion causes a chain of events that leads to dwarfs now being in every major city across the continent. Or some crazy dwarf inventor goes too far and invents something destabilizing, like an automatic hammer which threatens the junior smithing and smelting guild positions leading to social unrest. Maybe the dwarf hold that mimics Venice just does Venetian things and therefore drives the entire campaign itself?

I really like Italian renaissance dwarves.
>>
>>97223710
Lots of Renaissance stuff also fits in with dwarves. They would absolutely get insanely into marble sculpture, they would absolutely carve an operahouse into the mountainside just because the acoustics are peak.

Scouser or Geordie.
Or both, depending on region.

No, the spell has already been cast, so the only thing that this would interrupt is if you're trying to interfere with the spell being a multi-turn attacking spell like Sunbeam.

Can I get some feedback on two chronomancy spells I've homebrewed? not sure what their spell levels should be.

>Temporal Shield:
You create a sheathe of distorted spacetime around you. While time passes normally for both you and your surroundings, you become near-impervious to direct damage, as swords and arrows can never hit you and spells flicker out harmlessly around you.
For 1d4+1 rounds, all physical attacks against you automatically fail, you take no hit point damage or ability damage from spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities, and you may move freely as if affected by freedom of movement. You still take damage if you move into an already-existing hazard (such as a wall of fire or acid cloud).

7th or 8th level?

>Temporal Anchor:
When you cast this spell, note your hit point amount and location in space.
After 3 rounds have passed, or at your choosing (a swift action), this spell takes effect, at which time your hit point amount and location in space is immediately reset to when you first cast this spell, and you are cured any and all of the following adverse effects inflicted after temporal anchor was initially cast: ability damage, ability drain, blinded, charmed, confused, dazed, dazzled, deafened, diseased, dominated, energy drain, exhausted, fatigued, insanity, nauseated, possessed, sickened, stunned and poisoned.
Any attempts at teleportation or planar travel automatically trigger temporal anchor's effect.
If your original point in space is occupied, you are shunted to the next-nearest free space and take 1d6 points of damage.

8th or 9th level?

For all their flaws one of the genuinely cool things GW did was to never outsource their manufacturing to China. They still make their models in Nottingham. You’re paying a premium because they ship them from Nottingham in England to you guys on the other side of the world. This is why Warhammer shit is generally cheaper in the UK and Europe than in the US and Australia.

Firstly, no, their books are printed in China, so not everything is kept in the YooKay. And secondly they charge wayyyyyy over the odds to Aus/NZ,
Secondly, a kit that’s AUD$231 in Japan is $285 in Australia, that’s a 23% increase in price over Japan for just a little more travel. Same kit costs the equivalent of AUD$255 in the US, AUD$212 in the UK and AUD$237 in Poland.

AoS also has significantly smaller armies. On average your chaff unit is 100pts - maybe a bit below that if you play Cities of Sigmar.

Heroes in AoS are what tanks cost in 40k.

A fun fact is every 40k Battleforce this year was under 1k - some by 500 or more. Every AoS box was at least 900-1100pts
>>
>>97227421
it's funny because i'm pretty sure it was only like 25 bucks at launch, gw has raised prices pretty fast in 2 years after seeing the 'opportunity'.

Have you tried Space Gits? It's an unusual skirmish game by Mike Hutchinson (made Gaslands). It seems to be the ultimate casual skirmish that you play while chugging beer.

A lot of mechanics are dexterity based, for example instead of losing health or wounds, your fighters add D6's to their dice tower, which has to be moved alongside them (and when it drops over, they drop down).
Shooting is also quirky - you roll dice equal to the number of shots and then trace lines between a shooter and each die to see if you hit the target. Landed shots use die's result, so a single roll is made to-hit and to-wound, which I think is neat.

I'm going to try it this thursday. My only two complaints so far is that close combat seems bland (its basically rock-paper-scissors) and it's really easy to deny it by spamming shove. My other complaint is that the rulebook's art is atrocious vomit.

Everything else checks out though, it even seem to have a basic campaign system.

i did try it (the demo pdf they gave for free)
the thing is being dextrity based, can make it really inbalanced
you throw the dice to decide the shooting angle, but, of course, its not the same, throwing the dice 5 cm over the board than 15cm.

it was okish to try, but i didnt really like it, you can cheese it a lot without even trying, if i get the full pdf i may read it out of curiosity, but i dont think i will play it again
just use painted miniatures and nice terrain, and at least you will have some nice visual apeal
>>
>>97223299
Depreciated, we only play Chitty Hexen Modelo, which is technically a hex and chit game, but the only commercially available box has miniatures and 99% of all players use them instead of the chits.

>makes you sound like marketing.
Sorry, this wasn't my intent. I just like the game's premise and I'm a huge fan of Gaslands and Mike's games, so I was excited to post it here. I agree that it potentially could get boring quick, so I want to try it IRL.

I've watched 2 battlerepports on youtube, and it looked fun, although in both reports people kept messing up the rules.
Also after re-reading the PDF I'm stunned that there isn't any clear instructions from how to actually do the dexterity involved stuff to avoid cheesing the system; for example, when moving a dice tower nothing in the book says that you cant use a second hand from holding it together as you move your tower. I'm going to agree on some restrictions with my opponent before the game.
>>97224046

"The Emperor" was a persona that didn't exist before Old Night and the Age of Strife.

Prior to those, the guy who'd eventually make the persona was probably fucking around the galaxy on Reacher-esque adventures. Literally all we vaguely know, is he kept under the radar, and only occasionally popped onto the radar to do some convenient act of help, then leave.

FYI, I uploaded every piece of writefaggotry and anon created image that I could find to the 1d6chan page, as well as added summaries of planets, individuals, and organizations that weren't on there yet, let me know if I missed anything

Small (23): roll 4d10 for kilometers. At least we know it wasn't a significant loss.

Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial:http://mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html
It’ll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

Hot take, Excellency should just be a passive upgrade itself. You should only spend motes on a cool things.
>>
>>97227355
>Page number 106 mentions it not letting them command knowledge they couldn't know, its under abilities.
Ah, fair, so it does

>I've never really thought of "You can roll lore to know things you couldn't possibly know"
I'll also point out you're also the one who brought that situation up, and it in no way is a counterargument for "Lore in 1e and 2e represent general knowledge while in 3e it's a specific subject"

>Heck even if that's true you still need to roll and I don't think ten dice is going to regularly hit a legendary difficulty with a TN of 7+ with any real regularity so... I mean, without charms.
Correct, and I've never disagreed on that

>"I know a fuck ton of things."
And base Lore in 1e and 2e was that case, while in 3e base Lore is subject specific, that is what I've been arguing, you keep dragging in other stuff not related to that point and try to act like it's a gotcha
I have never mentioned charms, I have been 100% talking about base Lore, and how it differs in 3e from 1e or 2e, stop trying to move the goal posts into something else, you still have not disputed any of my original points
>>
>>97227358
What would determine the bonus an Excellency gives you in that case? Essence and the number of Charms you have in that Ability?
>>
>>97227409
Primarily your type of exalted, it would just be a part of your splat. Like, for example, Solars just get 3 dice per dot of anything. Their dots are just worth more.
>>
>>97227511
Expanding on this, this would really support the whole "young solars drop into the world as the scrappy underdogs who can change things.". Like, obviously this is just a spitball number and there are a bunch of other effects to really consider, but I think doing things like this would better illustrate power level differences in an immediate way and tell players that they can do things right now.

In the Jedi code, cutting someone in half is known as "sai tok". It goes against a sacred concept known as "living".

>It goes against a sacred concept known as "living".
And then all the Jedi ended up dead because their opponent didn't follow their sacred rules. Ironic.
