As someone who hates these people, it's because it's always their fetish waifu. Every time.
>>
>>97214962
have you actually met someone like that or are you just making assumptions
>>
>>97215004
Met many, mostly obvious fetish plays. Go post any ad as a GM and see what kind of characters/applicants you get. It's disturbingly common.
I also played with one for a while, and was friends with him for years outside of the game too.
He played his ideal waifu, fit into the fantasy setting we were playing. It was acceptable solely because he had no off-putting fetish things (basically he was just vanilla). It was still undeniably his waifu and he got constantly teased about it without ever denying it.
I have yet to meet or see a single female character (actually played not just theoretical) that didn't fall into this category. If I did, I'd be open to changing my mind. But the pattern has been unerring thus far in my some ~12 years of playing TTRPGs.
>>
>>97214962
What do you mean a fetish waifu? I get wanting to make a pretty female character, does it go beyond that?

I've run a game for one party with an Elder Ooblex, an Oni Barbarian, a Lich Theurge, and a Revenant Paladin.
The ooblex player eventually switched to an Aarakocra Monk because he couldn't figure out his Innate Spellcasting.
The only problem I had was with the Revenant Paladin who dealt hundreds of damage per round and didn't like the fact that nearly every intelligent enemy I threw at him had access to at least some form of fire or radiant damage.
>>
>>97187628
>What's the weirdest, wild PC you've ever played
Ur mum lmao gottem
>>
I let my players come up with whatever they want. I have a pretty robust system for character statting that forces some balance, so they've played as:
- Robot that can break into three smaller units that operate as a boy band (bard)
- man with the head of a slug who can retract any of his limbs inside himself
- really really long and thin snake
- Sentient swarm of bats (was once a vampire but can't change back)
- tiny psychic mimic disguised as a tongue that moves from victim to victim
- a sphere that rolls around and can only survive by eating coins and ghosts, for our maze arc of course.
>>
>>97187628
One of my players wanted to play a Bulgarian once, it was a little weird but I gave the Ok. He didn't actually speak English, so he had to talk to the one guy who spoke either german or russian who would translate for the rest of the party.

It's a piece of cardboard that many companies are selling to idiots to bolster their income fro mtheir games. Of coruse sold separately. Early DnD was all about useless merch, and this one can be made for any game of choice.
Most games rightfully dropped it, but the ones geared for fleecing their own consumers (won't even call them customers) will be selling it.

>>97211999
What a tragic waste of good trips
Also: if you need a secret roll, roll the dice in a cup and don't lift the cup until you need that outcome. If you don't understand why it's the best possible way of handling it, you might be retarded.
Everything else is in your own notes (reminder to never write more than a single A4 page, no matter fucking what)
>b-but rules
Not a single GM screen contains useful informations, especially when it comes to rules. It always lists basic shit that you will know after reading the book and not having room temperature IQ.
>>
>>97211837
Nta but the other anon already said that: virtually NOBODY prints those anymore for quite a while. You are either left with games that pull "muh tradition" (of selling useless merch), games who's creators are dumb enough to think this is an actual tradition and a handful of games that try to squeeze maximum buck out of a one-time buyer (so they are part of a "starter" kit that costs extra and consists of useless shit that looks catchy for a newfag).
I'm in this hobby since the tail end of the 90s. I saw "industrial grade" screens grand total of thrice, all three on official promo events. I saw people use screens of any sort only a couple of times, and each and every time it was the same story: someone had no clue how to handle a secret roll, so they did the dumbest thing possible and rolled behind a cover, then stated the outcome.
>>
>>97214597
>All that shit
That's just your opinion, man.
Some people like having resources for a session. Some people like keeping shit hidden. It's all a matter of personal opinion and preferences.

A good GM screen should have a bunch of tables for on the fly ass pulls.

Read the TF rules in "The Inquisition" second edition and Dark Ages: Inquisition, both have a blurb saying that the rules for TF contained in the book are the official core rules for TF and that Tf as it appears in other splats is shorthand like how vampires have gifts in the back of a WTA book.
The full rules for TF give you extra dice to all your Virtue pools and a resource(faith points for modern inquisitors and conviction for DA inquisitors) that you can spend for automatic successes on virtue rolls. A vampire with even a half-decent TF score is practically immune to externally imposed bullshit that could force them to fail a humanity test. The only way a Vamp with TF can lose humanity is if they Willing Choose to defy their own faith.
>>
>>97215227
The exceptional success bonuses are to my eyes clearly borne out of the fact that in playtest no-one used the busted Fate bonuses to Spellcasting and I firmly believe that no playtesting was done for characters with Gnosis higher than 4.
Within those two limits, and if your players are newbies like mine are, the exceptional successes on spellcasting are rare enough that the withstand breaking isn't even relevant most of the time, at least compared to the option to recoup mana (in my game no one took Hallow at chargen, and now the cabal is scrambling to ask around for a free one to take over).

But if you have someone with even just a bit of system mastery, or somehow you group start playing with Adept level Arcana + High Gnosis + Yantra optimisation minigames, you can fairly easily break a lot of the example spells, let alone whatever creative thaumaturgy a group of experienced players can come up with. But you know what, it's at least still somewhat more restrained 1e ritual spells allowing you to basically accrue arbitrary numbers of success to stack.

Also personal note: I know it's probably better for balance and all, but both Spirit Fetishes being much more volatile (breakin automatically if the Spirit's essence equals their corpus ever, even if the spirit doesn't want to) and Spirit 5 ability to create new spirits being hard-capped at Rank 2 were huge bummers to me, but I get the why.

But I could go on about things that I think 2e Awakening (and CofD in general compared to 1e nWoD) has made lamer from 1e, and frankly the improvements to the spellcasting engine, while not something unsubstantial, are not equal worth having to deal with lamer Proximi rules, lamer Prelacies, DaveB canonizing his pet villain or wasting wordcount referencing a 1e SAS that no one has ever played.
>>
>>97215561
At the end of the day, it only takes a couple of changes to make me not hate 2e Mage casting. Off the top of my head, Just remove that and make it so Shielding isn't so all-encompassing.

Like I said, I don’t know if these are the objective best. I just felt it’d be better to throw in a bunch of above average ones with ones that try and do something a bit different, otherwise I’d be either recommending old shit like Aura Battler Dubine or Those Who Hunt Elves, or stuff that barely qualifies like Hero BBS or Ishura. And everyone and their grandma always recommends the usual slop like Shield Hero or RE:Zero or Overlord even with how everyone and their grandpas has dissected their flaws to death anyways.

Here's some you didn't mention I found OK (disregarding more blatant slop, others' recs I haven't personally verified, and non-isekai; still, slop warning implied):
>The Ideal Sponger Life (guy gets title related, but gets increasingly embroiled in politics as prince-consort)
>Karate Survivor in Another World (palate cleanser after bullshit OP protags, but goes the other way into "this is why we can't have nice things" misery porn territory, Berserk-lite vibe)
>No Game No Life ("OK, so here's a pair of kids who beat God of Games in chess. In the prologue. Now that everyone sensitive to bullshit OP protags got filtered, let's enjoy watching people cheat in increasingly bullshit ways")

Also some time-traveler/timeline stuff, these are not slop:
>Jin (modern neurosurgeon in early Meiji Japan)
>Zipang (what if Final Destination actually did something with consequences? modern destroyer+crew in WW2)
Both of the above are complete mangas, but Zipang is not fully translated to English (there's a full French version floating around)
>All You Need is Kill (short; wartime Groundhog Day taken to its logical conclusion)
>Qualia the Purple (big one-shot; this one is hard to describe without spoiling, but great for the stated subject)

If anything can't be found, check for manga versions, I don't know if all have LN.

>That being said, I find kinda funny that we take isekai as a "loving" fantasy when in Shield Hero above we have a fine example of "yeah, I'll love the slave I bought and groomed since she was a child!" like.. thrice?

Shield Hero is actually one of the early "deconstructions" of the genre. In most, isekai slavery tends to be more like "why can't getting a wife/girlfriend be more like getting a cat or dog?" with slave traders acting more as really creepy pet store managers trying to pair you with the perfect pet.

Imho it's really easy. If the designers don't want to cater to as many people as possible, then it won't be generic. They have to have an artist's mindset, that is to have a vision, and never compromise.

I know, I know. Too difficult these days, because first of all you gotta sell your shit and whatever. But it's really this fucking easy (design-wise).

Yes, actually; a /mydudes/ Craftworld called Katre-Kaan. Colours I have in mind are a forest/olive-y green with bone-white as the accent colour for helmets etc.
Fluff I've got for them so far is they believe in returning the Eldar to their glory days, but unlike Biel-Tan who think the best approach is to kill everyone else, they're instead trying to build a sort of mini-empire in some corner of the galaxy for them and their friends to fuck off to and pretend everything else isn't happening, with their Craftworld parked in orbit above a maiden world. They're trying to convince other Craftworlds to join them, and also sending occasional piratical raids to find and take resources/treasures from lesser races to keep in their "empire". They're very chummy with Exodites. With the exception of the "requisition" raids, they're generally not openly aggressive but are VERY territorial about their domain and won't tolerate trespassers.
>>
Sup GROG, me and my friend had our first game of 40K 4th Edition today. Lots of fun, but we had a few questions regarding melee combat.
>Can you shoot an enemy model that's engaged in combat by another friendly unit?
>Can you consolidate into another round of combat?
>Passing a morale check after losing a combat just makes the squads pile in, right? And if so, does another round of combat happen?
Maybe some of these answers are obvious but we missed them due to the heat of battle.

Tolkien is to blame for the state of 5e and generic fantasy that you see in TTRPGs. We wouldn't have horrible big fat fantasy books, nor power fantasy / wish fulfilment, which you find in scaling levels through so-called "XP". Fantasy used to be an experimental, creative, and wild genre filled with mad imagination; now, it is all wooden and samey.
