Anon from >>97227184First of all, thank you to everyone that replied. Secondly, I’d like to ask for any suggestions for interesting ME terrain I could build. I’m working on houses and a water tower at the moment, and plan on making a Saddam-esque statue as well as a ruined temple, but what else could I make? Specifically I’m looking for something that can fill a gameplay niche. For example, the water tower acts as 360 elevated terrain for a sniper, the temple works as a place for scattered terrain, and the houses act as two story/cqb/hard cover. I want to make an apartment/skyscrapper, but I’d like to things 1930’s or earlier and I’m not sure how common or what styles of those things existed in the region at that period.
>>97263429 You could probably watch some vintage movies and take some screen grabs for ideas.
Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?Pic related: WFRP author James Wallis's response to a letter criticizing how railroaded The Enemy Within campaign was.

>>97263493yeah that's also possible but it's a cleric with spare the dying, i dont wanna make stuff obsoletemaybe "as an action you can bring a stable creature to 1hp"
The concept of copying spells is rendered a bit underwhelming by the fact that every spell you could scribe is one you could have picked at level up.Imagine if you only ever catch pokémon that were starters or that you chose from after beating each Gym.If you want there to be rare or forgotten spells to discover, something I think is a fantasy arising from the mechanics, the DM needs to put in all of the work.
>>97253006>Charisma>ClericThey use Wisdom.
Magic should be rare, mysterious, superstitious. It should take time to use and be exhausting to cast When did fantasy magic and wizards turn in Avatar the Last Airbender shooting fire and lightning out their assholes?
>>97248672>Exactly 0% of Combat professionals will miss a shot at point blank range against a target that's standing still. Meanwhile every single D&D character will fail to hit a straw dummy with a stick 5% of the time.NTA but you don't roll an attack to hit a dummy. You don't roll for things that don't have a reasonable chance of failure or success. It's right there in the DMG. Probably in the PHB too and nowhere is it implied that hitting a stationary inanimate object has any chance of failure unless we are taking into account extreme range or low visibility. Even if such conditions exist in the scenario of a shooting range with no distractions you can just use the take 10 rule. I would, and if that wasn't enough I would call for a roll or a take 20 depending on the situation.>Take 10 is only possible if you are not distracted.Yes. Because if you are distracted you can fail, spectacularly even, in things that you wouldn't otherwise. This isn't strange or peculiar. A short distraction can turn your every day drive to work to a fatal car accident. It happens.>Yes they are, they are even given explicit DCsSet DCs don't necessarily imply rolls.>There are also instances like walking across a 2x4 that the average level 1 commoner can't beat even if they take 10In 3.5? I don't think so. They will have to have a dexterity score lower than 10 and there is no RAW to achieve that on average.
>>97248672>Yes it is, the average is 10.5No it isn't, the average is around 13. With either 4d6 drop the lowest(PHB) or point-buy(DMG). Of course if you are using point-buy the average score is meaningless.

I think no one but practitioners should know exactly HOW magic works (and I mean the specific effect desired by the magic-user) and no one should know WHY ir works (but different traditions and cultures should have their own beliefs and explanations). This should be enough for the players and GM to inform the roleplay. As a game resource, spells should be rare enough to be special but available enough to be considered useful.Another aspect I very much enjoy is increased randomization of effects. Should a character choose to relinquish control of the effect (or forced to do by circunstance), shenanigans ensue, which is always entertaining.

>>97263044>INCLUDING enchantment (charm) effects and enchantment (compulsion) effects that...Anon, that's definitional "Inclusive" language, not exclusive. Mental compulsions as a whole are block and ongoing enchantments are just one example.
>>97263089>>97263044>>97262467as per the 3.5e FAQ:What exactly does the second effect of protection from evil do, anyway?[...] The key phrase that defines this particular effect of the spell is as follows: “ . . . the barrier blocks any attempt to . . . exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment (charm) effects and enchantment (compulsion) effects that grant the caster ongoing control over the subject . . .).”[...]The first part of this phrase describes the basic criteria by which the DM should judge protection from evil’s effect: If the incoming effect attempts to exercise mental control over the creature, protection from evil likely suppresses that effect. The parenthetical portion of the phrase provides two specific examples (pointed, obviously, at rules elements of the Player’s Handbook) to help judge what exactly is meant by that:1. Enchantment (charm) effects. Simple enough--protection from evil automatically suppresses any enchantment (charm) effect, such as charm person or enthrall.2. Enchantment (compulsion) effects that grant the caster ongoing control over the subject. This is where adjudication gets trickier, because you have to decide what “ongoing control” means. The Sage recommends a broad definition, which includes any non-instantaneous effect that prevents the target from exercising full control over its own actions.Comment too long. >>97263308Personally, I would rule more narrowly than what the Sage advises. As a DM I draw a strong line between the spell granting the caster control of the player, and the spell itself controlling the player. A target rendered confused, as the spell, isn't more susceptible to the requests of the caster, unlike a charm target. Otherwise, Protection From Evil renders the target near-impervious to almost anything mind-affecting, which is too much for a 1st-level spell.

>>97263437The Garou's regeneration is to the point that the only way to properly kill it will have to be through impalement, conflagration, or getting something large enough to squash it. This thing is like a wolf with mange, fleshy and overgrown.
>>97263447I know NPC werewolves get mostly unlimited regeneration which is pretty gay, I suppose but wouldn't getting forcibly flesh reshaped over and over again by presumably quite advanced Vicissitude users not contribute to either slower regen or some sort of aggravated damage? I think it would be more interesting that way. Especially if we were to take a more JJK-esque approach to the soul shaping the body and the body shaping the soul, surely this would result in some sort of permanent damage to a Garou's soul/spirit. I just think it would be more interesting if the creature starts off partially showing off signs of damage it can't recuperate from on top of the weird shape. Possibly as a teaser if one of the Tzimisce get to escape and create a perfected The Thing-like Garou, that could be kino if the group ever gets revisited.
>>97263469Y'know, you're onto something. A Garou's regeneration would counter-act a Tzimisci's fleshshaping, no doubt, so if they found a way to stall it, or stunt it to the point that it can't anymore, and shows signs that even the smallest knick is almost entirely permament... Dear God.
>>97263373Easily
>>97263489I'd figure if the Tzimisce could, they'd definitely become a long-term threat for the party. Maybe enough for the Werewolves to propose a truce or work together with the Hunters for a bit. Inevitably that alliance is going tits up, but it could be useful for a bit since imbued aren't terribly inept compared to werewolves relative to normal hunters and Kinfolk I suppose.

Currently, a fierce armed conflict is taking place in this area of the world between the Confederation of Anukie Tribes (deer people) and the Great Roblon Grove (tree people).
niggers tongue my anus
>>97263235And although the Roblones initially had the numerical advantage, since the Anukie began summoning the Yahui (Fire Serpents), the balance of power has shifted in their favor. The reason the Anukie haven't won yet is because it takes 100 sorcerers and a sacrifice to summon a single Yahui, which can only be summoned at night because sunlight is harmful to them.while the assistance of the Muzenkab (bee people) as infiltrators and spies among the Anikie to obtain information for the Roblones has kept the weight very balanced.
The setting is undergoing a Protestant Reformation in the south. The colder parts of the League are gravitating towards hardcore reformed denominations with predestination and strict communal hierarchies. The warmer parts either like the Church or just want to stop its political dominance, similar to England during the reign of Henry the VIII. The Papal State wants to maintain its dominance and plays up the threat of the Caliphate that is looking more and more like a paper tiger. >>97262323>2323Huh. Weird.

>>97263416I liked the 'masquerade' element of it. The masses should not know about the Gods. This is, of course, something that could very well change during the course of the story your players are telling, but at a base level, the Gods should be underground and subsisting off what are essentially worship scraps while they get their scions to do things for them in mortal world.
>>97263453Fair take. The masquerade's orders of magnitude superior if the devs aren't willing to go all in and actually change things up and engage with the concept of the gods being real and being active.

>>97258020>Which obscure conflict would you like to collect miniatures for and get a game going?Dunno really, more interested in good rules rather than particular eras which tends to push me towards popular eras with more attention from rules writers. Sam Mustafa's Aurelian is on the cards down the track though, and I'd love to run Over The Hills and Far Away but that would be a big project readying it.
anyone know any cults/my mini factory makers of 30yw/english civil war era miniatures? Thus far Atlantic Games has a pretty solid line of renaissance era stls, and I've found the odd miniature arquebusier character on cults, but not much else.
>>97259539Wing of Glory is pretty simplified and you need specific sets of cards for each aircraft. Expensive and limited options with aircraft. It is a "programming" game, where each player plays 3 cards with movement arrows on them, then players reveal 1 card at a time simultaneously, and their aircraft makes the move.Blood Red Skies is also quite simplified, there is no altitude or speed, aircraft are either 'advantaged' 'disadvantaged' or 'neutral', and the flight stand tilts the aircraft forward or backward to represent this.If you want something that actually has altitude and speed taken into account, and has pretty much every WW2 aircraft (including bombers, ground attack, night fighters) - Lacquered Coffins might be the way to go. It tracks speed and altitude with 2 dice on the base of an aircraft, and is dead simple to play, no custom cards or flight stands required. Also how that fuck are people posting with these new Captcha's....
>>97262898>new captcha I love the new captcha and have been able to solve them 10x faster than any of the previous version for the last decade.
