IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

It seems natural to me that Lost Men's hero would be a copycat hero that lets you use any Colonial hero for cheap but with worse base stats. So, it'd only need those base stats and Faction Traits.

Finished my last Redcoats for the moment. I have one or two other figures to try for the British list but I'm doing more Muan spearmen now. These are both Lieutenants in game, with different abilities. There are two of them so I can do Zulu quotes while blasting Agarthans.

Figured I would try my hand at an edit. I used a bit of a different technique but I think it came out alright, even if I'm not too knowledgeable on GIMP. If anyone wants to swap out the sky for one of the classic agartha ones I'd be all for it.

RIFTS! There is also not much in it mechanically. It reads like a assortment of random ideas, where the author sometimes gave up mid-segment and just moved on to next half-baked table of whatever. And graphical design-wise I thought it was interesting at first, but wondered after reading why they don't just offer a clear written version of the rules with it, that aren't in a random order, in random formats, randomly strewn across pages, but then I realized that, it's probably like this in first place, because if you had in regular format, you'd immediately see, again, how little there is actually in there.

I disagree, HH is a bad product but they definitely care about it, it has had 40k levels of support since 3.0 launched, which itself is probably their most manicured edition in a long while with a ton of investment into it. For a start it is pretty much their first battle game that has introduced more characteristics since I don't know when. TOW was clearly the stepchild from launch, it's the underdog done good story but I don't think they were ever confident about it and are still confused about how to market and support it.

OK, found it. Impulse Buys from Pyramid 3/100.
Serendipity is not doubly aspected, since Serendipity is explicitly stated to cover all kinds of Player Guidance. It is only aspected.
Even if it were doubly aspected, that's a -40% limitation, reducing the cost of two levels to [6], which would be more than Serendipity 1 even if you only had to pay for one level of Enhanced Refresh.
But you need two levels of Enhanced Refresh to refresh both your points every session. So the total cost is actually [28], almost twice the price of Serendipity! I think to be fair you should allow Aspected on the Enhanced Refresh too, which brings it down to [24], but Serendipity still looks like a bargain in comparison.

I would suggest that wounds are either serious or non-serious. In that case only hit location matters regardless of the target. Serious injury to your right arm and you aren't using it for the rest of the fight. Serious injury to your head or torso, you're in death's door. On the other hand, enough non-serious injuries to either and it will be the same as having gotten one serious injury. This would be true for a human, goblin, wolf, dragon, etc.

Damage numbers aren't required for this at all, you could determine it entirely from some roll of weapon skill, contested or otherwise, considering reach and defense/armor, etc. But this doesn't even count as the beginnings of game design. Maybe the entire premise of what I said disgusts you, but I'd be curious either way.

Interestingly enough, I personally use that kind of system (although slightly more granular with 3~4 tiers of wounds) for my homebrew systems specifically when almost all fights are between humanoids and fall back on classic HP tracks for giant robots and dungeons full of monsters. Perhaps because the latter make me want to play something more game-like while the former scenarios drive me towards more simulationism.

Now, systems for figuring out hit locations… is a field I have a lot of room to grow in as a designer.

Coward? Those things can be destroyed much the same, a robot or golem or zombie might not die from a sucking chest wound but breaking all their limbs and should render them a non-combatant under most circumstances.
