Previously: https://desuarchive.org/tg/thread/96936967/When last we met, we made G.E.T.S. (Generally Entertaining Team-built System). Thus far, it seems to be a fairly minimalist system. Now, we shall make our first setting for this system. If your proposed idea gets doubles, it is canonized. Any canon characters, worldbuilding, themes, et cetera can be modified (but not outright contradicted or discarded) by triples, quadruples, et cetera.Let us continue.

>>97201302>speaking would be the same as doing, meaning everyone has reality-bending powers. That's called a magic system.
Do you prefer systems with a strict class-based martial/caster division or classless systems that allow anyone to dip into anything at the cost of never being great at it?
>>97246705Nope.
>>97246742>Fighters were designed only to fight and Rouges were designed to be skill monkeys. Both classes suffered at higher levels due being pigeon holed. So you think every class should be good at everything? That's shit design.
>>97248962Every class should be good at something meaningful. If a class is dropping off, either what they're good at isn't meaningful, or they aren't designed well enough to engage with it.
>>97249089On that, I agree.
>>97229035>Letting people multi-class inevitably leads to meta gaming. And? Building characters around expressing interesting mechanical ideas is fun, and doing so while also coming up with good rp reasons as for why your character is the way they are ironically makes for even better rp since it usually forces players to venture outside of comfortable tropes and come up with more unique character concepts. A Pallock is obviously a very strong meta gaming class combination, but the potential plot hooks of having someone who is torn between their personal honor code and their obligations to their patron are absurdly juicy from a narrative perspective.
How do you justify a "pest race" like goblins or rat people in your setting? Why wouldn't the dominant species make a concentrated effort to eradicate them if they were a problem?
How about they started off as bandits, but as the world has become more urbanized, they are finding new ecological niches that allows them to survive and not being killed on sight? After all, animals evolve, adapt, and switch tactics all the time. We see it with the rise of urban fauna.
>>97213989Goblinoids are an illness more than a proper race, it doesn't matter if you exterminate them, any large enough civilisation will have a percentage of it devolving into new goblins, one way or another

>>97233792I thought it was because a heavy rain flooded a river in the escort's path, and because the punishment for tardiness was death, the leader decided he might as well die on his feet.
In my current setting, one of the main forces of magic is Rhymes. It's some kind of poetry/art/narrative magic. Users of Rhyme can make things happen by saying something, for example they can make someone somewhat immortal by remove stanzas related to their death. Fae are innately related to Rhyme magic, and specifically a subtype of fae are goblinoids, creatures that have naturally gimped fates. Some goblins don't die, they just fade, some goblins are never born. Some goblins appear only in the mornings. It is said that a whole mob of goblins usually accounts for a single total goblin. So, while it's possible to exterminate goblins, it's not very practical to make much of a fuzz over it, as they can just spawn out of nowhere.

Is there any point in taking this sweeping order as a Sergeant in Only War?Is there any way beyond Inspire to help with countering against Pinning tests?Feels very weird half the squad immediately recovers from pinning with snap out of it! while the actually important members (the PCs) are shit out of luck.
>>97248364If I'm reading the comrades rules right, they don't automatically snap out of fear or pinning even if their controlling PC does, so I would say yeah, it does sound pretty useful. I mean, it's a free action which at the very least gives every PC with a spooked comrade back their +5/+10 to hit bonus they'd normally have from their buddy and potentially restores access to some other special orders they may have. But ultimately it also kind of depends on how often your GM likes to put you against fear and pinning
There's a super special language in 40k called Enuncia, which apparently allows those who know it to bend the universal laws to their will. And the emperor knows it, at least partially. So why having this stupid ass crusade in the first place when he could say "i want humans to rule the galaxy" and that magically happens?

What are some things that retired adventurers in double-digit levels could get up to in a city?I have an idea for a faction for the next chapter of my campaign being built around five such figures who hold different forms of formal or informal power in the same city, and are still on friendly terms with each other. Each of the five has a successful business operation or other field of influence which may or may not be related to their class abilities, and they can call upon each other for assistance if they run into problems of any kind.

>>97238917facts
>>97237367Plenty of inspirations to look to from other mediums like manga and anime. Get them involved in courtly intrigue, become competing merchants. Plenty of non combat challenges you can throw at them.
>>97243461If they're going to have a alter ego unlike the comics the alter ego should also have things that challenge them outside running around in a urban environment rather than have the characters exist to change into someone running across rooftops stopping crimes across the city. It works in comics not so in RPGs.
Who was in the right?
>>97248116I believe it's male chicks being sorted for maceration, which they do in factory farming because they don't need them for anything. It's pretty easy to see they're suggesting a hardcore eugenics program using cloning to fill in the gaps left by euthasia/sterilization of lesser people. The Spartans Santiago leads named themselves after a Greek tribe who were famous for committing infanticide, disposing of sickly or malformed children at birth.
I feel like people put far too much importance on what happens to the “canonical” leaders and ignore all the possible social policies and gameplay states that can occur. (You) decide if Lal leads an ineffectual weak faction or the second coming of Super Earth. (You) decide if Santiago leads a survivalist libertarian paradise or a literally 1984 clone dictatorship. (You) decide if the endpoint of Yang’s Human Hive is an enlightened Eudaoimonic collective or a mind-controlled society of ants. The story of the faction leaders and their societies unfolds throughout (You)r game, not through the quotes.
>>97248725I've noticed that people who like in-game lore too much tend to be cucks and completely remove the player from the equation or consider that anything the player does will end up going wrong.Best example is how people just assume the yes-man ending to new vegas to always end up bad regardless of what kind of player character ends up doing it.
>>97248725People talk about the "canon" story arc because its the only common ground you can talk about.Because the factions can change so much when (you) are in control of them, its borderline pointless to talk about. Also there is a reason that the tech and diplomacy quotes exist. It gives you a default attitude and understanding of what the factions are "supposed" to be about. Yes you can play them in almost any way, you could play Zak as a luddite if you truly wanted, but thats both not efficient and not what was intended.
>>97248725>>97248754>I feel like people read the words too much Okay. You can say >I want to go off script and do a different thing with my game and that's cool. I suspect there would be strong difficulty in a ttrpg context of trying to balance player dynamics and ideological preferences with outcomes unless you went for a single or low variance group. >>97247737There was a Legacy:Generation Ship and Worldfall that are clearly SMAC inspired for generational play. maps and mapmaking. more specifically, there's something that's been bothering me for a while now. There are endless skirmish-scale settlement-scale and topographic-scale square grid mapmaking tools online, and that's great. There's plenty of topography-scale hexgrid mapmakers too, presumably because of D&D's ancient use of hexgrids for overland travel. and that's great too. There arent many hexmakers ive found for settlement scale maps, but i've had some luck torturing them out of the battletech mapmaker in the megamek software, or other videogames that generously offer to print the outputbutfor the life of me i cannot find a decent skirmish-scale hexgrid mapmaker. i must have tried a dozen programs by now, but the ones that offer hexgrids are either borderline unuseable or just put a hexagonal overlay over a square grid. it's ridiculous that after decades of computer tools for TTRPGS the best i've found is GIMP where i have to draw the damn things by hand. Not to mention the endless enshitification of google makes it harder and harder to find niche programs to match what i need.what are you anons using to create your maps?do you know of any decent skirmish-scale hexmappers (that are free, or at least worth the price)?what do you think of maps in general, do you even use them?i'll share any spare maps i have within the size limit to get the ball rolling

Welcome to /wbg/, the thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art.
