>We play games to escape the reality of the modern world
I play games because they are fun to play. If you need to "escape reality", you should be putting some effort into making your reality better for yourself rather than running away from it. Go ahead and shoot people if you like, but you won't because you are a pussy and, in fact, knows that you can't do much by yourself to change your reality. A loser by the very definition of the world that can't even enjoy their own hobbies without having to contextualize it by having to exclude other people or even the idea of other people. Downright pathetic.

This. Magic and Pokemon is entirely just a cardboard stock market where the card game imaginary and the card value is made up.

On the one hand I have never met Wayne Reynolds and maybe he saves puppies on the regular and is a nice man, but his art makes me want to disembowel him
>>
D&D 24 MM art has almost only good designs and PHB had some really nice artworks.

5e was a lowpoint but the new art is qualitatively better, some fags just don't like what's being depicted and then claim the way it is depicted is also bad (inability to discern the actual craft from the content of the work)
>>
I feel like today's artists no longer have any knowledge about color theory and can no longer depict lighting in a realistic or interesting way.

I draw a bit myself and I think Digital tools are absolutely incredible for creation but I feel that something was lost when we no longer had to mix paint ourselves. The guys that started on traditional media and later moved to digital, usually get better results then the ones who mainly grew up with a tablet in their hands.

I am also certain that before, the artists were more aware of the painters and grand masters of the past.

Did you know that in 1999 Dan Abnett did a comic that was basically a wholesale rip-off of 40k except the main character was this vampire lady that he had all the other characters constantly talk about how sexy she was.

It had a feudal space Catholic empire that oppressed mutants, and even had elite warriors with implanted organs and cybernetics using weapons called bolters. Later Dan Abnett had the MC tame a bolter warrior with her vampire pussy.

Abnett also wrote some Judge Dredd comics for AD2000 that were very obviously just 40k stories with some names changed (40k and Dredd already share a lot of DNA, but when you go from the normal Dredd plotlines to not!Space Marines fighting rebellious colonists in space it's pretty obvious the whole thing started as a rejected 40k comic plot).

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

Now scale that up for the space age....

Yeah, Space Colonies have evolved their own spirits that can influence material reality. Best case scenario, they can actually help defend the colony from dangerous accidents and outside attack.

>Well, Harry Potter used them as mere animals abused to guard treasures for wizards or goblins
NTA, but they were also essentially treated like cattle, being allowed to live only in specifically designated dragon reserves where they are regularly harvested for parts.
Dragons are used for everywhere in the wizarding world like
>their heart strings are one of the most common and powerful cores for wands
>their hide is has magic resistant properties and is used for fancy clothing like jackets and boots and the like, but also for protective equipment like gloves all children are exppected to wear for potion class.
>their blood has a dozen known uses ranging from being a useful potion ingredient to being used as spot remover and oven cleaner.
>their meat is put on wounds to help treat the pain, also occasionally prepared and eaten like DragonTartare
>they produce milk that is used for cheese making
>powered dragon claw is snorted by students before exams as it supposdely helps the brain focus. Its also used in potions
>their dung is used as fertilizer for magical herbs
>their horns were also powdered and used in potions.
>their livers and eggs were used in potions too
Personally I really like this as Dragons in setting are not really any less dangerous than you expect dragons to be, but they've become the equivalent of powerful animals in the real world where we have to go out of our way to not hunt them to extinction, only difference is their parts also useful beyond just status symbol.
>>
>>97407377
As I said, abused animals. HP is an anthrocentric setting where humans are the center of creation.

>The real resources aren't in planets, they're in asteroids.
It will literally never be cheaper to mine asteroids than to refine an element from resources on earth.

I don't have planet-mania. I know how much space travel costs. Even if we had theoretical megastructures that make launching and landing cheaper, it would still not be more cost effective to fetch asteroids than to refine shit on earth.

To use a comparison, it would be like harvesting icebergs for fresh water instead of using desalination. Technically possible but dumb as fuck.

It wasn't always the case. Rape literally just means theft, which should tell you exactly what it used to be seem as. It's probably just because of misandrist feminism: statistically speaking, murder is a crime against men, rape is a crime against women.

*seen as

So context. I used to DM for my friends a while back but I've been struggling with creating a game I'm happy running for a few years now. It's not the end of the world, we do TCGs instead but part of me wants to get back into running tabletop games.
So I started DMing with DnD 5e but for my own reasons I stopped running the system. The only other system I'm really confident running is Mutants and Masterminds 3e.
Lately I've been seeing videos from some of the old school types talking about the nature of dungeons, and I've also been reading Dungeon Meshi, and I've had the itch to try making a mega dungeon for a game. Thing is, I don't wanna run 5e, I'm not confident trying to run an older version of the game, I don't have access to the books for OSR. What I do have is Mutants and Masterminds.
So my friend and I were talking about this, and he suggested exploring the idea of running a dungeon crawl in M&M. Now to me that sounds a bit absurd, they're so tonally dissonant I can't really imagine it, so I thought I'd bring it to you guys. If your GM came up to you and said "I'm running a dungeon crawl in M&M", what would your thoughts be? Does it sounds a good idea? How would you do it? What would you emphasise, what would you ignore?
Thanks in advance /tg/, I hope with your advice I can get myself out of this nogame slump I've been in

>>97407210
Holy shit, I did not know this existed, thank you! Which version is it for? And any idea how it handles as a system?
>>
>>97407219
Probably 2nd edition. It has advice on powers, items etc that would be helpful for any sword and sorcery m&m game.

I played one game where we converted our D&D characters to M&M. I personally liked it. Especially thjngs like exerting yourself for more powers felt thematic. However D&D is designed around resource managment like spells, HP, healing etc. M&M is easier to break, and has very different design goals. A lot of the powers from M&M are pretty weird in a fantasy setting.

I'd play a mega dungeon with M&M. But I would go in expecting something more like a conan comic in a badass mega dungeon than a gritty slog. Mega dungeons are best when they have differ factions opposed to each other and maybe the characters have to choose a side.
>>
>>97407262
I haven't read a lot of Conan but I love the Arnold movie, enjoyed Red Sonja, I reckon this could be good!
So I should definitely make sure to incorporate human factions with interests in the dungeon. It's the sort of "missing the forest for the trees" thing I would miss, monsters are fine but I need to make sure I include human interests.
As far as powers go, most can be flavoured as magic. The only one I can think of off top of my head I'd have a problem with would be 3e's immortality powers. Are there any glaring ones I'm missing? Like I said, been too long since I last ran a game, a touch rusty on the old memory
>>
>>97407130
How do you run a game with candy coated pieces of chocolate?
>>
>>97407130
I really feel like David Jason was an odd choice for Rincewind. In my mind Rincewind was maybe a middle aged guy at most, if not a similar age to Ponder Stibbons (who definitely fills in a university-aged role).

Can someone please confirm if I understand the Call of Cthulhu 7e rules for Full Auto fire correctly?

>Investigator has a uses a 1D10+2 damage Tommy gun with a 50-bullet drum barrel.
>Has a Firearms (SMG) skill of 75% so they fire 7 bullets per volley.
>Apparently you can fire as many volleys as you want as long as the weapon has ammo.
>1st volley: Rolls attack. Hits, so half the bullets hit (rounded down) dealing 3D10+6 damage. Remaining bullets: 43
>2nd volley: Rolls attack with a penalty die. Hits and deals 3D10+6 damage again. Remaining bullets: 36
>3rd volley: Rolls attack with two penalty dice. Misses this time, so zero damage but still used 7 ammo: Remaining bullets: 29
>4th volley: Rolls attack with two penalty dice and requiring a hard success to hit. Misses again, so zero damage but still used 7 ammo: Remaining bullets: 15
>5th volley: Rolls attack with two penalty dice and requiring an extreme success to hit. Misses again, so zero damage but still used 7 ammo: Remaining bullets: 8
>6th volley: Rolls attack with two penalty dice and requiring a critical success to hit. Misses again, so zero damage but still used 7 ammo: Remaining bullets: 1
>The player cannot fire any more volleys because it has become impossible to hit, so they end their turn.

Is this correct? Aside from the facts that armor is applied to each damage roll separately, and if the Investigator wants to switch targets between volleys they have to pay 1 bullet/yard in wasted ammo. Also, obviously they'd probably stop firing after the second/third volley because the chance to hit just becomes abysmal.

my guess is that rackham is a small french company that got quickly stomped by the british juggernaut that GW grown up to be by the early 2000s. did they design this game in the late 80s when tabletop gaming was at its infancy they might've had a shot. but the faggots at Nottingham would do anything to stay top dog. i don't know if they would send pinkertons to harass competition like WotC but i think they would use any possible legal tool to snuff them out.
>>
>>97406668
AT-43 was literally 20 years ago, the wargaming landscape was completely different. No social media (besides a bunch of scattered and disconnected forums), no kickstarter, no real way to soft launch a new game/setting and slowly build up hype as a small indie company. All they could, and did do, was hard launch the game at a bunch of trade shows and hope for the best. Then they quickly ran out of money because they overestimated how much 2007 people would care about a wargame where the hobby part is taken out and it died.

Bit of a shame because the main 3 factions in the setting + the gorillas were absolutely peak aesthetics wise (you can tell they contracted a bunch of GW artists in their prime lol) and the rules were really forward thinking at a time when old school warhammery shit like IGYG and real LoS were still pretty much standard.

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.

It seems perfectly legitimate to separate magic that does something vaguely related to the desired force from the actual force itself, particularly when said "relation" is doing the opposite of the usual function to things it shouldn't apply to.

I don't wish to start bullshit, but this is the place to ask:
Is it easier to make a Captain America expy (hand to hand, uses shield offensively and defensively) of at level effectiveness (ie not hyper optimized ubercharger but serviceable in a group) in 3.5, or easier in PF1e?
I am not against initiator classes, but I would rather not run to them at first, viewing them as a crutch at times.
