How do I make a campaign revolving around the gimmick Arios Theoman's sword Escude revolves around work?

To explain
>Arios is the "hero" of the setting
>He has a magical sword that gets more powerful the more humanity dies
>It's a dilemma - he needs the sword to be at least 30 percent powered up to be able to even hurt the demons ravaging his world, but to do that he needs to allow humans to die - or even actively curtail their population himself so as to paradoxically save them

It's a killer concept - but I feel like as a campaign it becomes hard to gamify since the players could literally just do nothing, allow the sword to get powered up, and kill the big bad without any moral dilemma at all

I guess you could give each PC a distinct legendary weapon or artifact that gives various buffs depending on the current human population. It could be something as simple as "+X to all stats", as crucial as "ignore X points of any demon's innate supernatural damage resistance", or it could be something unique to every weapon.
You should also have a "human population" statistic that the PCs can check with their weapons at any time. It doesn't have to give an exact number. You can just give a hint like "the weapon feels colder than when you last held it, as if the sollective life force of humanity is dwindling" or an abstract rating like "3 out of 10 jewels on the legendary scepter's head have faded black."
When the PCs complete a quest, you might adjust the human population depending on how well the PCs succeeded in their quest. You might determine this with a random roll, use a character of modifiers depending on how many objectives were accomplished, or just go by vibes.
If a PC dies, you might allow the weapon to be passed along to a new PC, or you might allow the old PC to be revived at great cost to the human population (it might require willing sacrifices, or maybe a fraction of the remaining population just gets magically Thanos-snapped at random). I think allowing PCs to revive at a cost is a neat idea, since it creates dynamic difficulty (if the PCs do well, then more people are saved, but things get harder for them; if the PCs are struggling, then they can just power up at the cost of human lives) and saves the trouble of having to roll up a new character.
If the PCs choose the easy path to power, or too many humans die, then make sure they feel the consequences. Places where the PCs can rest and resupply become sparser, replaced by ghost towns. Human allies and support networks become fewer and more expensive. Demons become more numerous (but not individually more powerful). And so on.

forgive me, I might be having a stroke
>sollective life force
collective
>character of modifiers
chart of modifiers
>>
>>97284375
What if instead of requiring a % of population dying the sword is just powered up by human souls consumed? Then your players have to actively decide if it's worth it to personally slay innocents to power the sword enough to fight demons.

Any of you lads play reinforced platoon level skirmish WW2 (CoC etc) in 15mm? Want some honest opinions on how single based 15mm models work in this scale. I'm concerned about readability of single based 15mm figures, and I like making terrain and am also concerned single models might get a bit lost in the clutter of a table. I know Storm of Steel uses 15mm but his terrain is a bit more austere than I try to make.

Anyone play it yet? I like the "rustic fantasy" setting. The core rules seem interesting, it has more mechanics and gameplay than most other narrative games. I enjoy that it doesn't have moves or whatever to confine you, you can actually play your character and do whatever you want. It's got enough knobs and options in terms of resolution I feel like it's actually a real game despite having that more story focus vs simulation focus. And I like that the DM has all the traditional power of the DM and there's not like "Fate Points" or something else that gives players control to change stuff.
Thinking I might try a short game for my table, just a few lower powered sessions. It also has good tools for a solo stuff which is interesting.

I've always looked at it as "these moves are the only actions relevant to gamify." You can do anything in a PbtA, it's just that the moves are supposed to only be triggered when something is worth rolling for.

>Opinion on the AP paints, specifically Speed paints? (I'm jumping back into the hobby after 20 years absence)
They do their job as intended, but they absolutely need a solid coat of varnish before you slap any sort of oil wash on them. I've got personal experience with Slaughter Red specifically turning muddy brown after a red oil wash.

That being said, I still use them occasionally, primarily through an airbrush. You just absolutely have to remember to varnish them before using oil washes, streaking grime etc. Picrel were all primarily airbrushed with AP SpeedPaints over zenithals in combination with oil washes either before or after the speedpaint tinting. The yellow is my favorite, that was AP Ancient Honey mixed 50-50 with AP Maize Yellow airbrushed over a magenta-tan-white zenithal with a magenta oil wash done between the tan and white steps iirc.

If I were to buy contrast style paints today I'd just get some from the new AK range though, they've never done me wrong with their normal acrylics

Then you become a cultist, and possibly a mad scientist archetype. You are provably entering the as-yet uncharted territory of a field that mankind has only ever previously accidentally dipped their toes into but now may access by means of apprenticeship/the scientific method, respectively.

Your character conflict becomes a combination of social and financial isolation as you struggle to relate your new realizations to others with less flexible mental grounding. This carries with it a painful reality of how easy it is to fall into moral and ethical decay when the promise of each new discovery unraveling some prior assumption about life finally hits home, and you stop seeing society and psychology as solid, immutable forces that cannot be bent with sufficient genius.

Ultimately, those who delve into the eldritch truth must struggle with not losing sight of everything else.

You're the troll, buddy. 1629 is still canon where other sources do not contradict it. Most of it has even been reprinted in 1692 and the Handbook. Let's take a look at what the TDF comp is in 3059. Does it say tends toward light and medium battlemech lances? It sure does.

Yeah, it's about making minis look "good enough" for gaming. You can use them for basing and then highlight, shade, and such with acrylics for more showcase kind of things, but at that point you should really just be using regular paint.

Whether it be SP, Contrast, AK, or any other 'speed paint', if you are doing more than prime, one coat, wash, and seal then you should stick with traditional paints. That said, speed paints are a god send if you got hoards of board game gray minis you want to knock out.

It was obviously comical hyperbole but since it went right over your head and you're being a humourless dick about it.

Guy who learnt his techniques as a kid and has to match hundreds of years old paints, glazes, finishes using materials which he has often has first to source the raw materials for, many of which haven't been made for centuries, before he can try mixing them without knowing the exact proportion of ground, pigments, solvents, binders, other additives, size of pigment particles, how they will be affected by the need to layer, apply a surface treatment, sand down, match texture, artificially age, let alone all the other work he does in reconstruction and repair before he can even apply the colour since all of those will affect the colour matching.

versus

Buy a couple of paints off the shelf.
Use a measuring spoon or pipette.

Your comparison is invalid and unreasonable.
>>
>>97277739
It really isn't once you're used to it. Especially with dropper bottles. If in doubt just use a syringe/pipette
>>
>>97286702
okay so you are genuinely retarded, good to know. a person can spend whatever amount of time and paint mixing shit till they get the right formula or they can buy the same color thats used on the box for like, 2 dollars more than normal. Seems like a pretty easy choice to me.

>At NO point would two lines of infantry just stand in front of each other shooting
Maybe you MEANT to say, that the objective in this era of warfare was to close in and drive off the enemy with the bayonet?
(Or conversely, to shoot an approaching enemy to ribbons, before they could get close.)

But as written, you're saying that never ever ever did both sides just get within firing range and shoot over and over.
Which is of course just ridiculous.
>>
>>97286656
>But as written, you're saying that never ever ever did both sides just get within firing range and shoot over and over.
>Which is of course just ridiculous.
NAYRT but that would be an oddity. For a start, if in open terrain how would you get a unit to stand through it? One would break before long, which was the whole point. Units needed to move to hold together in combat. Either towards or away, in general.
It's certainly the case in rough terrain (or around fortifications) two sides could end up enmeshed and repelling each other by fire to prevent a close to bayonets. In that case it's less the case that they formed firing lines against each other and more the case that you'd end up with slow wheeling maneuvers to seek flanks and lots of skirmishing. Situations which might be resolved by cavalry or artillery.

I really like the authentication service eBay forces on cards over 250USD.
It standardizes the packaging and they ship it in hard and sturdy cardboard cases.
The prices on eBay are stupid tho. Please buy my Mastemon at 800USD despite like 10 copies on TCGPlayer under 500.
The seller fees are very similar. I don’t know what causes this price discrepancy.

Probably not. As much as I enjoy this tcg, there really is a disconnect in how the trash is used and whatever the devs are told to push. To prove I'm not crazy, a lot of the most recent ban and pairing restrictions kind of shows how underfunded the test team is. Although some if it really is a problem with how tgs without rotation struggle with how every single card counts and they have to push something new that is possibly better and combinations occur using stuff the devs aren't given the timeline to look for

Sharing useful wisdom that has helped me run more satisfying games. Trying to share some less common advice. These are my opinions and techniques that have helped me. I’d love to hear what has worked for other /tg/ DMs.

1. Time pressure- adding time pressure through use of "clocks" including real life clocks is incredibly helpful to add pressure and tension to a scenario. Giving players choices but not enough time to make every choice adds meaning to those choices. Time pressure in combat is a contentious, but powerful tool to discuss with your players. Forcing a decision in seconds makes combat stressful and - when players are on board- fun (in anticipation of the common objection: if the players don’t make a choice in combat, I usually come back to them before round end, I never have them “just stand there”. Remember to assume character competency).

2- The GM-ing engine- It's okay to front load content and prepare a few different rail-roady hooks in the first few sessions. Being a GM is like starting one of those old prop engines with a winch. It takes a while for the pistons (players) to kick into gear. Once they do, after a few sessions, all you need to do is apply gas. Solve the tavern problem by figuring out how characters know each other prior to the first session.

3- Immersion means impact- After a session, reflect on how the player choices affected the world (for good or ill), try to let the ripple of that effect emerge in the next session. Players that feel like they change the world around them invest in it.

No, completely wrong, you are an idiot and part of the problem. There is a single thing, called railroading, that is always a negative, and constantly either diluting the phrase, and trying to trick yourself into thinking there are somehow good railroads is an idiots past time.
>>
>>97283385
Good post, I feel illuminated.
>>97284098
Bad post. I love milsim games and I definitely want the gear autism and the preparation. In fantasy games it doesn't matter (there are barely any interesting tools outside of magic).
>>
>>97286538
I didn't say you can't buy your own stuff, just that IME players who aren't massive milsim spergs don't enjoy having all the wrong gear
>>
>>97286778
I find that really confusing. Modern and milsim games are all about being GOOD at preparation. Fantasy games are the ones for "just turn up and hope for the best" gameplay.
