Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

>think session zeros should be a thing, formal or informal.
Session zero is a gay concept. Informal? Ok then it's not a session zero, it's campaign planning and chargen. Wow. Hipsters just need a new word for everything.
>>
What is the most important thing to keep in mind if I want to dm?
>>
>>97281952
That DMing is a choice and if you're not having fun with it, then you don't need to keep forcing yourself to.

Like I considered actually actionable advice, but I do think it's important to remember that outside of rare circumstances, being a DM is always a choice, which is why they put up with tables that aggravate and antagonize them and vice versa without considering on just being the adult and talking it out or walking away.
>>
>>97271637
>Some GMs probably benefit from having 20 pages of notes for a session and planning for every possibility
There is literally no GM that wouldn't benefit from this, Virt. What you're mistaking is that some GMs can't spare the effort to actually keep up on notes or have a little forethought. These are what we call bad GMs who will always fall short in certain situations where they really desperately needed more than meh improv skills.
>>
>>97278592
So you're not actually mad at session zero conceptionally, you're mad someone named it?

That's fucking dumb. You are dumb.

>What would they be reviving? A dead devil-god?
Devil-god sounds good to me.
Or, if they're reviving something, how about a body for their leader to use instead of a generic evil guy? That way the "final boss" can have a presence instead of coming in out of nowhere. A devil-god would likely have more of a connection with the ghost domain too.
>>97282508
I feel like the revival plan should be "perfect" in the sense that, with no interference, a high power level for the ressurectee could be achieved. So instead of them reviving a mid-low tier threat setting wise, they end up reviving a high tier threat but with weaker power (in order to be fightable) due to PC interference. Then include some "argh my power needs time to grow!" so our PCs have urgency in killing it before its powers grow out of control.
>>97282542
>>They're trying to abort the Sacred Embryo (Chizi) and force the world back into primordial chaos
Ngl I think that idea in particular sounds extra terrible lmao. The idea of Chizi being tied to the world itself instead of "just another extremely talented cultivator" feels really stupid to me.
>>The Devil-God that originally practiced Moyu's Shadowed Menagerie,
>>They're not trying to revive something, they're trying to free the thing trapped in Shahua's coffin (not sure what it is, the fingers in her image are pretty creepy though).
These ideas feel dumb to me too. Like I guess its an angle to be pursued and aren't as dumb as the Chizi one but still. The Moyu one isn't as bad as the Shahua one. If anything, I like the idea that maybe they're related to the Big Evil Guy's Big Evil Disciples. If there's more "people" for the cult to revive that lets both of these happen and not feel as silly.
>>A long dead Jin Empire ruler/royal. Maybe someone Yecheng or the Xun Patriarch killed? Or a previous Xun leader - the Cult hate the Patriarch and want to Make Xun Great Again.
The latter sounds fun if we go dead guy instead of devil angle.
>>
>>97282542
All these are exactly the kind of ideas I was trying to avoid since they really make a couple of builds the center of the story rather than on par with the rest.
>>97282581

That's what I meant with my suggestion. I feel like if they have a god guiding them there would be less chances of mistakes, since the god would find out and react. I guess we could go with a god that can't comunicate to allow for a weaker revival. So we can also have the scene where it awakens unaware that the ritual was fucked up and it isn't at full power, so it gets beat up and runs away to gather more power.

Back from the end of year break.

Frenopolis is a gamified tetragrammaton clothed in the memetic zeitgeist.

This thread is for discussion and development logging.

It's easiest to learn with YGO/MTG experience.

It's not for sale, but you can request a free physical 2-player 90 card set by following the instructions in the description of this video:

In picrel top two MTG diagrams, you can see that each of the 5 colors is composed of 2 base concepts, which are then arranged on a spectrum wheel. These concepts are what define the mechanics belonging to a particular color identity. This is a sort of top down approach, letting the concept inform the mechanics.

In Frenopolis, each color is also composed of 2, but they're not concepts, they're Elements which correspond to card types and board zone mappings. The mechanics inform the concept. This is a bottom up approach. The Frenopolis color pie is strictly defined in terms of the game board itself. Color identity cannot be broken.

I liked that guy to be honest.
He had self awareness and probably even laughed at his own idiocy. I say idiocy because he revealed who he is from WIP.
I do want to see him return though.
I hope nothing bad happened to him. He seemed pretty active then just went silent.
Or maybe the state of this general drove him away.

I still don't get what he sees in the Severan Dominate though. It isn't even a Warhammer 40k faction among the roster of official ones. Maybe he explained it before. But I can't be bothered to trawl an archive for a reason.

I've been here way too long to know the fluff of some 40k autists that regular'd this place.

If you could choose the set of core classes (in the PHB/core book and ideally the rest of the classes are designed around them) what would you choose?
They don't have to be identical to their current incarnations.

For me its,
>Ranger,
absorbs a lot of the fighter but keeps the independent survivalist schtick.
>Paladin,
Divine warrior with special abilities but no spells
>Rogue,
Sneaky stabby martial, basically as he is now
>Wizard,
>Druid,
>Cleric,
Default to being lightly armoured wandering friar tuck type character, but with options to put on some armour and bonk.

>Class that excels in low-damage melee and closeby-ranged that can also target weak points. Has a high chance of connecting hits, but doesn’t chip too much damage off the enemy if hit. however, if they hit a weak point/ make a precise attack, they make the enemy much more vulnerable.

>class that excels in distant ranged attacks/ spellcasting. these attacks don’t do too much against an enemy’s health, but when successful, they have a major effect on making the enemy easier to fight (e.g. a successful attack reduces the enemy’s Difficulty Class/ Armor Class, reduces the amount of damage an enemy can do when it makes a successful attack, or increases certain weaknesses the enemy has so that the higher-damage classes can deliver severe walloping.

Minimal stats OR minimal character progression. If the stats are minimal, it shouldn't be that difficult/time-consuming to stat a new char. up to the level of the surviving party members, and if character progression is minimal, it's fine to have more complex stats, because you're basically just picking a template and changing details anyways.

Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?

I think it's because the internet has exagerated the existance of "That Guy" to the point where it doesn't even slightly reflect a lot of peoples experience. My old meet up was at a pub. 20-30 members on the books. Most were in relationships and had families. There were maybe 4 or 5 clearly autistic members and only 1 of them was really insufferable to be around. It always makes me a bit sad when I see the old stereotypes getting flung around. I've only ever seen shopping carts full of pokemon boxes online. I've only ever heard about table flips online. I've only ever heard stories of hyper-sexual trans furbolg bard players online and usually from groups that generally sneer at our pastimes.

Conan never faced non-euclidean horrors, just eldritch monsters which weren't outside of how his (limited) understanding of reality worked. For him demons and unknown entities were an expectable reality the notion of which was already integrated in his set of beliefs, conversely Lovecraft protagonists get their whole concept of reality completely shattered by the encounter with those, completely unexpected, horrors, stranger of their modern and scientific way of understanding reality.

Weight is intrinsic, there are no "skills" for armor etc so it's a balance for carrying mega-gear. You have people with 20-30 strength & toughness walking around in full carapace with heavy bolters which is massively over weight, still running at full speed (I bet you ignore narrative speeds and just have people turn up at X time, ignoring agility) and lugging around heavy gear. It unbalances the game and makes nullifies things like unnatural strength bonuses etc. It even impacts you jumping and lifting shit which everyone also ignores. It makes me rub my tummy and grumble.

>there are no "skills" for armor etc
Not in official material, no. But I did make some stuff like that. Some Kroot talents, for instance, are dependent on wearing light armor.
>narrative speeds
I use degrees of success based on Navigate and Survival tests to determine the days or hours a trip to a zone takes, and how many rations or food items it consumes / can be created or replenished on-site. Most of my teams tend to stay together, however, since separating means getting wrecked.
>Unnatural strength
Still good for melee damage
>It even impacts you jumping
Well, there was that one time everyone wall-kicked off the techpriest to jump over a forgepit. Usually, everyone just hookshots over with a grapnel if they're mortal. Last series, the deathmark just teleported everywhere and the cryptek and praetorian could fly, so it was just the royal warden who needed to worry about running.
>lifting shit
The only time I ever looked at the lifting rules was to play a prank on someone. Otherwise, I've done lifting and carrying as a Degree of Success extended challenge, since it's usually tied to an objective of some kind.

Black Crusade has complications to making weight matter since for space marines in power armour their carry weight is crazy. It's only came up so far with minions especially the serf and aspirant minions who were always encumbered like pic related.

I haven't limited how many weapons they could carry (currently they aren't carrying unreasonable numbers of weapons) but just houseruled that weapons they could actually draw in combat without using an action to fish them out was limited to whatever was in their hands plus 2 maglock points excluding grenades (obviously heavy weapons can't be put away or maglocked). I also kept track of ammo. It's been a very effective tension/risk reward mechanic as they currently are wandering homeless renegades with no resupply and legion ammo is hard to find in almost all places. Obviously that will become less of an important choice once they get shit like a ship or hideout.
>>
>>97272190
Well yeah there's that side to it, but also in general the whole point of having these rules is to provide a simulation of "reality" (as reality exists in that universe). If say, just for one example a regular human in only a bodysuit is tanking more damage than an ogryn, that weakens the simulation. The more this kind of thing is done the more it erodes this framework put in place to provide such a simulation, and nothing fucking matters right? You're all working to collaboratively make this big cool story, but if you're not following a cohesive set of rules your story is tantamount to toddlers in the sand pit bashing toys together and blowing raspberries. Like who cares if X character did something real epic and survived Y to pull off Z when this character is coated in plot armour and constantly rolling crazy high, nigh impossible to fail tests because we're all ignoring what's actually on the character sheet and the action/combat rules in the book? Just something to bring up to them and see what they say.
>>
>>97282674
Totally agree. If you don't want to use the system then don't use the system in my opinion.
>>97279937
The main thing is if your dudes are having fun at the end of the day and it sounds like they are. For me personally you're just not playing dark heresy, you've taken it and changed it into something else. It's funny to me because dark heresy is system I see being bastardized this way the most. You even see it on /tg/ where people recount epic tales but when you know the system you're like "they either were not following RAW by miles, or they're making it up."

Depending on the timeline of the powers appearance:
In Ancient times: It would probably be a feudalistic society with the superheroes being treated as gods or noble with noble arranged marriages being the closest thing eugenics.
In modern times: Superheroes might be encouraged to use their power for good. If they are sufficiently strong the government could legally institutionalized to closely monitor them. Probably away from others like them to prevent an uprising.

And yes, one of the inspirations.
>>
"Innocent girl gets used as a weapon" is actually inspired by the original Mobile Suit Gundam, specifically Lalah Sune, a young sex worker that was groomed by Char and Zeon to be a psychic super-soldier. Her close emotional connection with Amuro, the protagonist, and her tragic death at his hands made her something of a hit with the melodramatic audiences of that era.

And we've been plagued with magic space psychic girls since.

>>97281054
>Realistically what would life in a world of superheroes where your ability is defined by your bloodline be like?
Well, for a start, bloodline powers means secret identities do fuck all unless your entire family tree keeps that shit secret, so masks are out.

Also means supervillains would be pretty rare for the same reason. You aren't gonna have people start trying to crime when their powers are basically a fingerprint unless they're immediately willing to live on the run. There's a difference between running after you get caught and running in the first place and people willing to do A aren't necessarily going to be willing to do B.

i dont feel like cheating out kosuke is even worth it. like you need bt16 doru in breeding or to play and have it live. then on your second turn you use it to put kosuke under, then when you end, assuming the doru or whatever you digivolved into survives, you play it out on your second turn. i could just play it normally at that point if i opened it

>why tohaa were shoved into the bin
Because we can't have nice things.
>and why (you) want them back (or not)
After the nu-Morat shit I have little confidence. I just have to grab Sukeuls/Gorgos somewhere and I'll have the entire lineup anyway.

That feel when I am so disgusted at the state of the West. Can't bring myself to play pank. How are yujing or JSA?
>>
>>97282137
yujing like having a handful of super friends who can do everything and 4-5 dick riders for ordergen
japs are okay at things, but can threaten high end melee with flavors of vis control or decent hacking
>>
>>97282137
YJ probably has the least shitty resculpts and n4/n5 sculpts compared to the rest of the catalogue. JSA is close behind them, but I'm personally not a fan of some of their models. Either way, you can't go wrong with either.

I started working on a Science Fantasy TTRPG. It was originally a GURPS setting, but i wanted something more pulpy, less realistic, and it's spun off into its own thing.
Here's the latest draft, tell me what you think

the fed sonic gun is very fun

you may write down something like "characters cannot toss shaped charges like homicidal prospectors, these have to be set up in advance"

the example for transmutation mastery is frankly underwhelming compared to "we are now in a different game setting"

thanks you

>quick reflexes has been removed. i may add another advantage to take its place
>darkvision no longer as a range limit
>hovercar stats have been lowered so they aren't nearly as strong or fast as a space cruiser (lol)
>clarified in the factions section that hegemony cyberknights are hostile to people who wear their armour
>removed some duplicated chapters
>added a table of contents you can click to go to the page
>generally improved formatting and fixed spelling

Just use a d6 "yes/no" oracle thing along with standard rules. It's hardcore enough as it is because of how lethal it is. I'm going to look into making the rules more "heroic" down the line (there's apparently a Sword and Sorcery homebrew that makes singular characters more powerful/less squishy... just haven't used it yet). Still want to play Scarlet Heroes as well.

Happy new year /srpgg/!
I lost all my pdfs and similar to a hdd hiccup (or moved them and can't find them) so I'm rebuilding my stock from archives.
This is the year I'm going to actually use them.

How is Dragonbane solo? I've been eyeing the starter set and I'm tempted.
>>
>>97280039
Really good. The solo adventure can start feeling a bit limited, but it still does set up a good point crawl framework, and it is easy to just expnd it to wider adventuring on your own.
