Considering that the destruction of the Word of Blake was only able to be brought about by every faction in the Inner Sphere working together to defeat them, imagine if that would have been used as an excuse to import Arms Fort-like things into Battletech - the ruins of such war machines turning into battlegrounds in the IlClan trial.

Ironically, I started doing paid GMing cause just after I finally got my degree all the entry-level positions for my career basically got kneecapped by AI. Every boomer that has their position is fine, but now the pipeline from the bottom is severely sieved.

>>97291737
Supply and demand like >>97291694 stated. Lots of players, not enough people to run things half decently. You probably have a friend group that's reliable enough, but most of my clients are either grogs in their later years or younger peeps in tech whose old group splintered as life and responsibilities pushed them away. These people want to have a good experience, want players that are committed to coming each day, and want to know that the GM won't drop out just cause they woke up on the wrong side of bed that day.

Honestly, I was afraid I'd get burned out but it hasn't been the case. I refuse to run 5e so instead I do everything from Pathfinder 2e to Mothership, Lancer, Fabula Ultima, etc. and I can always find enough players to get the ball rolling. The more people I introduce to something other than WOTCslop, the better for the hobby.
>>
>>97291731
>Paid friendship always will be
You're essentially describing any business transaction, ever.

>>97291737
>Why would anyone pay
Because they want to enjoy a good game, and a good game is a rare thing, especially in the current state of the hobby. People get tired of clueless DMs who don't prep and/or can't tell a story to save their lives, people get tired of half the table being on their phones all session, people get tired of people bailing on a session last minute because *insert weak ass excuse here* when really, they just couldn't find enough give a shit in their hearts to go through the motions of a game they have no reason to care about that week. Some of these people are tired enough to pay.

Growing up, it would never occur to me, or I imagine, anyone, to charge their friends to run a game. It still doesn't. That said, the landscape has shifted, and paid GMing came about because of the massive influx of normies into the hobby. Normies aren't necessarily a problem, they just tend to be ignorant of a lot of things grogs take for granted, and having them at the table can be a bit of a distraction, and it tracks that nobody wants to take on an entire table of them without being compensated.

Maybe you don't mind spending your time, energy, and resources on people you barely know, and hey, if that's the case, I guess you're just more altruistic than me. But if your stance is that it's somehow a moral transgression to be expected to be paid for a service, or paid to teach a skill, please explain to me why GMing should be different from anything else, or better yet, dine on my unit and fuck all the way off with that noise.
>>
>>97291780
Just out of curiosity, why do you refuse to run 5E? I try to avoid supporting WotC as a company, but I just know... so... fucking... much... about Eberron, and am really good at running campaigns set in the same. From a mechanics standpoint I find it tiresome how much the "standard" balancing for combat coddles players; I'm not (always) trying to flirt with a TPK, but I think the people writing for WotC are woefully ignorant of how quickly feeling like your choices don't matter can kill interest in a game.

Anyway, yeah, I try to encourage players to give PF2/Starfinder a try whenever possible, but some people are slaves to branding. But then hey, that's probably a big part of why they have to pay me in the first place.

Because I was there when 5e launched, both as a player and as a GM. I experienced the ups, the downs, and the absolute trickle of content while fixing nothing concerning the worst of the system.

I've had more than enough after a few years, especially as a GM. When you're asking people for money there's obviously a certain standard that you have to deliver and I simply do not have the patience for something that I am neither passionate nor optimistic about.

I have no doubt that my own influx of players are because they feel the exact same way about 5e. Hell, a handful of them have basically come my way because they are the only ones sick of 5e in their group and cannot convince their players or GM to do anything else.

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.
>4e books are ~10-15$ now.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?

One thing I really like about 4e is the ability to challenge tactically savvy players with enemy group synergies.

For example, let us consider an encounter against a group of xivort darters (level 1 artilleries) who have tamed a bunch of thornskin frogs (level 1 brutes) and wolf packmates (level 1 minion skirmishers).

http://iws.mx/dnd/?view=monster5029
http://iws.mx/dnd/?view=monster4879
http://iws.mx/dnd/?view=monster4614

The xivort darters can daze PCs, which is annoying enough. However, the thornskin frogs can move in to deal heavy damage and knock PCs prone. Standing from prone takes a move action, and a dazed creature can take only one action on their turn, so a dazed PC who wants to use a standard action will have to settle for staying prone. Unfortunately, the wolf packmates can then move in to deal extra damage to the prone PCs. Simple but nasty enemy synergy.

How about a positioning challenge for PCs of a slightly higher level? Let us say a couple of centurions of the Iron Circle (level 6 soldiers) have rounded up several dwarf warriors (level 1 minion artilleries) and a couple of extremist wilden ancients (level 4 artilleries [leader]) to stir up trouble.

What dumbass Exalted writer is trying to deconstruct the Great Man theory in Exalted, "Great Man Theory: The Game"
>>
>>97291061
Grabowski, but he and subsequent writers fusilladed the message.
>>
>He was looking into a great chamber, whose walls and floors were of stone, and whose mighty roof was upheld by gigantic stone columns, strangely carved. Ranks of feathered black warriors lined the walls and a double column of them stood like statues before a throne set between two stone dragons which were larger than elephants. These men he recognized, by their bearing and general appearance, to be tribesmen of the warriors he had fought at the chasm. But his gaze was drawn irresistibly to the great, grotesquely ornamented throne. There, dwarfed by the ponderous splendor about her, a woman reclined. A black woman she was, young and of a tigerish comeliness. She was naked except for a beplumed helmet, armbands, anklets and a girdle of colored ostrich feathers and she sprawled upon the silken cushions with her limbs thrown about in voluptuous abandon.

>Even at that distance Kane could make out that her features were regal yet barbaric, haughty and imperious, yet sensual, and with a touch of ruthless cruelty about the curl of her full red lips. Kane felt his pulse quicken. This could be no other than she whose crimes had become almost mythical—Nakari of Negari, demon queen of a demon city, whose monstrous lust for blood had set half a continent shivering. At least she seemed human enough; the tales of the fearful river tribes had lent her a supernatural aspect. Kane had half expected to see a loathsome semi-human monster out of some past and demoniacal age
Oh, Nakari really is proto Raksi.

What are your hopes for new Exalted content in 2026? I hope we get more 3e fiction, be it a comic like picture related, a novella, or otherwise.
>>
>>97291863
I'm thinking it's going to be nice to play some infernal games in 3e using some actual canon rules. I'm not really sure about new content but I'm always happy with new whatever.

If I were to ask for something then I guess it'd be more demons and NPC's to play around with. Especially now that we have so much content and more years of experience to work with making cool npcs. Say what you will but I actually liked those Devil-Stars that were posted.

>>97291061
A big part of solars is that them being great didn't stop them from losing due to hubris. Between the first age and the great contagion it's pretty canon that the exalted can't just fix all the things.

Anon its the price of pcs and consoles that are going up, not the games themselves. There's a big difference between the 2~3 games you buy a year going up by $10 and the machine that lets you play them at all doubling in price.

Probably not. It's been a constant downward trajectory of bad threads, most of them inane quesitons with no OP involvement, none of them with any value.

This used to be the place I came to get some really esoteric info on myths and folklore, people genuinely knew so much about the craft of worldbuilding, there were some interesting perspectives and reimaginings of things, there was always someone who impressed me with what they knew or thought about a topic. But they've all left. Ask a question about some obscure Greek creature of myth, you get some retard going "traditional games?", another thinking Percy Jackson is source material, some /pol/ reject goes on rant about Greeks not being white, and a couple of retards posting fetish shit. There's no imagination any more, no knowledge, no passion, it's retards shitposting their lives away.

The tile randomness isn't as big of a factor as it might seem. While it can help, the real strategy of the game is smart stock buying: how to best benefit when company A gets acquired (stockholder bonuses) and how to best benefit when company A acquires a smaller company (preexisting shares get more valuable). It's a great game that you have to play by your gut instinct and mind games, rather than pure calculation alone. There's a reason why it's still popular 60 years later.
The anniversary edition is also great, the poker chip money and tile bag are nice to have.
>>
>>97291782
>>97291880
>If you get stuck with a tile that helps other people
This isn't the best wording since a merger pretty much always helps multiple people. I meant a tile that helps only other people but does nothing for yourself.
>>
>>97291889
That can still be planned around, do the merger early and deny a potential bigger payout.
>>
>>97291898
Sometimes it's the right move and sometimes that keeps people liquid in the middle of the game who otherwise wouldn't be. I've lost more then one game that way.
>>
>>97291885
>the poker chip money are nice to have.
There's not a good way to hide the chips and Acquire with open information is AIDS. In a just world Acquire would have Chinatown paper money instead of Monopoly paper money.

Frenopolis is a gamified tetragrammaton clothed in the memetic zeitgeist.

This thread is for discussion and development logging.

It's easiest to learn with YGO/MTG experience.

It's not for sale, but you can request a free physical 2-player 90 card set by following the instructions in the description of this video:
https://youtu.be/oPoBUoagO_k
(No payment or identifying info required)

Playmats have arrived and will be sent out with the playtesting kits. Anyone who already received a set with the shipping label name "Current Resident" should be receiving one by 1/10/26. If your shipping label was not sent to "Current Resident", email or DM me on telegram so I can send you one.

Some context: Color Tree is a spammer who has been attempting to promote "frenopolis" for around half a decade, originally starting in 2021 as "honktopia" with the effort accompanied by a crypto grift. Since then, it has only managed to become less comprehensible and playable.

https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/78296561/

Having renamed the effort "frenopolis" later, he continues to promote this "game" by creating threads on /tg/. He sustains these threads by flooding them with self-replies containing sections of the "rules", "gameplay examples", and expressions of support and praise for himself and the "game"; no organic discussion of the game occurs in this or other threads.

Implementing some new effect interaction symbols, as using -1 or 0 stat for everything led to too high of effect output.

▲ Up Triangle = Upon Projection ("upon added to the stack")
▼ Down Triangle = Upon Manifestaiton ("upon entering")
◀ Left Triangle = Upon Removal
▶ Right Triangle = Tap (changed from -1 stat)
■ Square = -Stat as cost
◆ Diamond = +Stat as cost
Energy Symbol = Energy as cost

Also looking to implement a way to limit the number of effects which get combined into a composite card, because it also led to too swingy of gameplay (basically, if the other player found a way to remove your large composite card, it was hard to come back from, and if they didn't the other player would have a hard time coming back).

Picrel is the tenative plan. The card can use all of the effects, but only the bottom effect gets passed onto a composite card. This also cleans up a lot of board space usage, because you only need to have a 13mm section of text box instead of ~40mm.

Also, with this change, you can now see a card's cost and type at a glance while it's your hand, which is smoother tactile gameplay.
