Does anyone else feel like the Byzantine Empire is the closest thing human-kind had to an Elven civilization analogy during our actual history's middle ages? Or am I crazy?Even the part where their highly advanced culture was eventually wiped off the face of the Earth and forgotten in most normie perceptions of history.
>>97231486need a Romanoi jak saying this
>>97222151No one else feels like that. You're crazy.
It was actually Sicily. Here's a excerpt from Ernst Kantorowicz's Frederick II, which I've read recently."For decades past, nay, longer, everything Sicilian had worn a halo of romance in German eyes, and his German contemporaries cherished a vision of a fairy prince living in distant Sicily. Since the wanderings of the old Germanic peoples Sicily had exercised on the imaginations of men a peculiar fascination. The further the Northern invaders penetrated south into regions of ever-increasing wealth and luxuriance the nearer they seem to approach the Garden of Eden: a dream-fulfillment of an Earthly Paradise."
>>97222887>The biggest cultural trait of the Byzantines is inviting people to conquer them.Yeah that sounds like Rome.
Traditional games, anyone?
This thread is all about solo games and campaigns. Midnight reading edition.>old thread >>96761554Resources: https://rentry.org/srpgghttps://infinityweavers.link/re-up/solo-rp-toolkitMore threads:https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/search/subject/%2Fsrpgg%2F/Thread Questions: How do you try to surprise yourself in solo games?
>>97242753Do you really need a ruleset for Solo RP? Or can you basically just journal with dice? I mean I guess fundamentally there's no rules but you know what I mean.
>>97242605>>97242838I suggest reading pic related. Don't bother with the variations, but obviously, feel free to change things to your liking if you think something isn't working.I can upload it for you if you don't mind PDFs
Since Zozer has been mentioned, does anyone here have experience with Crisis Creator and if it functions in playing modern spy games? The description does mention that it includes options and materials to play intelligence officers. Crisis Creator does include a version of Zozer's solo rules, the Modern War version of them was also released separately recently but as far as I know you might as well use resolution rules of sci-fi Solo, so I am mostly interested in tables and frameworks CC might provide.
>>97242605>>97243126I think CRGE is a bit more digestible personally, it's also free.
>>97242605Pick a system, any system. Get to know it well. You’ll get the hang of solo RPGing and what you’ll learn from playing a ton of one system will carry to any other. I’d suggest not starting with something you’ll have to supplement with a GM emulator. Play something designed for solo, like Ironsworn or Kal Arath or something else that piques your interest

>>97242400Definitely frostgrave. You could try a co-op one though. Rangers of shadowdeep has a story that might keep her more engaged and much less wizadry. 5 leagues from the borderlands could be fun if she enjoys the campaign aspect of it. Depends if she just wants to play and not think about it afterwards or wants a campaign experience.
>need to read one or more literal textbooks before being able to engage with the gamehonestly that's kinda crazy
>>97238819>offended by a player having fun wrongLmao at ur life and the giant pile of GM notes your players don't care about.
>>97240701No, players should not read more than the PHB for the game you are running. If your players are reading the MM and the DMG you are fucking up and get what you deserve.
>>97235374If you aren't the sort of person who enjoys reading, or you're unwilling to do it, then maybe you could join a different hobby. This isn't gatekeeping. This is you being unwilling to turn the damn doorknob.
Even if we're talking about the 5e, you don't need to read the whole phb, core mechanics are, what, *maybe* 50 pages? Everything else is just lists of shit.

Do people find this wizard apprentice attractive?
Why the FUCK is his power armor broken? The Badab War was 100 years ago. This dude leads a legion-sized band of space marine pirates and is one of the wealthiest and most powerful space marine lords in the setting, on par with chapter masters of the first founding chapters.WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT HAVE FIXED HIS POWER ARMOR. Does GW even know their own fucking setting anymore?

>>97242348I grew up in the hood, the sticks, the holler, and juvenile penitentiaries my whole upbringing. Customers don't rile me up at all. Been through much worse. The Walmart structure and upper management are the fucking bane of my existence, though. That said, customers have gotten worse. Doesn't help that the Walmart I work at is within the accessible "let's flee from Chicago and make ourselves a problem there instead" distance. Thankfully I live in Indiana, so we actually have more gun rights than Texas does. Plan on moving to the southern part of the state; the north has been overrun with illegals and criminals from Chicago and liberal potheads from Michigan. Columbus, IN seems nice.

>>97243188The LRMs used on ground vehicles are the exact same as LRMs used on aerospace fighters. The hexes stay the same but the distance of each hex is larger the higher up you go. Same for the ranges of direct fire weapons. Aerospace combat has to be figured into this equation because it is the highest common denominator. What happens in the other 10 seconds during ground combat can be simply chalked up to maneuvers.
>>97230214Dieselpunk seems to be stuck in the alternate history territory and that makes it stupidly limited. There is no reason that we couldn't have a dieselpunk setting set in a completely fictional world. The way I see it the most important aspect is a highly industrialized and militarized 1984-style dictatorship and that could exist in any setting.
>>97230970Mutant Chronicles?
>>97230970>>97234145That is partially due to dieselpunk advancing straight into 50's style atompunk. You pretty much need to stop the atomic age from starting while still allowing the Allies to win.

I refuse to believe Halo Flashpoint is even a 10th as successful as Mantic claims. In terms of online, easy to find metrics it has:3100 people as part of its sub(P)reddit.2100 or so people as part of Facebook Groups. No one discussing it on Twitter gets many likes/comments/retweets.No one big or well known talks about/plays it on Youtube.Yet it's one of the fastest growing and more popular tabletop games to come out recently?I don't buy it.I don't hate the system, but I am baffled by Mantic's ability to get away with lying about how successful this game is.

>>97243098It is, but it's not fast growing. It has an established player base for sure, but it's been out for over a decade. Same with MechWarrior and Frostgrave. Those exist, and they are big for non-gw games, but they aren't new, and they aren't fast growing.
