>Do you play any other TTRPGS?
Mainly D&D 3.5e, which I vastly prefer over 5e.

That's what some of my friends play.

>TQ
3.0 D&D. I remember making my first dungeon and playing with one friend. Good times.

>BTQ
I used to. The last game I played that wasn't 5e was Genesys. I've played a bunch of others. I kind of miss other games but my group knows 5e well and I wanted to test 5.5e. 5.5e is basically the same, maybe slightly better. What draws me to 5e is the original vision of it. A quite basic game that you can then change to your liking through modular rules. WoTC completely fumbled the ball giving us those modular rules but third party and just general house rules make it work. I steal a lot from 3.5 and 4e for my games.
>>
>What edition got you into D&D?
The first time I was supposed to play D&D, it was 3.5. My buddy had us roll characters when we were on spring break but we got too high to actually play and then just never started up again for whatever reason. After years of trying to find someone willing to DM, I finally decided to DM myself this past year with 5e 2024.
>>
>Playing Curse of Strahd as a Barbarian.
>Artificer party member is annoying as fuck. Constantly argues with the DM.
>Got mad that his character was being ignored and left the game mid session. Only to come back a minute later and argue with the DM in front of the rest of the party instead of doing this in private.
>Whatever, we're in the Amber temple now.
>I find some tombs, they make my Barbarian evil but only I know this.
>Tell the DM in private that it'd be a fun twist if I turn on the party when we defeat Strahd and I'd be one final bossfight. DM allows it.
>For whatever reason he thought it was a good idea to tell the artificer this information.
>Next session, artificer spends half an hour asking if I was evil and me repeatedly telling him no. Told him that even if I were evil why would I tell him that? I get mad and tell him to shut up. For the rest of the campaign he would sporadically ask me if I was evil like it was the funniest bit ever.
>In castle Ravenloft, we eventually meet Strahd and his brides. Our bard was charmed during this.
>I was in the middle of telling the brides to walk away from this fight or we'd kill them too. Just a cool character moment before the final fight.
>Artificer decides to interrupt me and tell me to not say that because our Bard was charmed and would attack us if he knew we were gonna threaten Strahd even though we were literally about to fight him.
>Oh well we defeat Strahd and his brides.
>I reveal that I'm evil and will now kill them all.
>Our Bard snapped out of his Charm and defeats me.
>Since the bard and I were in the campaign the longest I thought it'd be a nice character moment to have my Barbarian say his final words to him.

In all seriousness, how can you get yourself to enjoy playing games when /tg/ players are so insufferable, socially and aesthetically in real life
>try to play 40k
>it's all actual obese autists with animes T shirts and don't understand the concept of an inside voice
>try to play RPGs
>It's fat 40 year olds with goatee or ungroomed beard and shaved head, marvel T shirt and jorts and wearing those weird flat Irish hats
>visit LGS on card gaming night
>take one whiff and immediately turn around and leave

It's actually distressing because I want to actually get to play in the hobby I love so much, but it doesn't seem to be possible if you can't find normal people to play with

Sounds like a guy who likes his games enough to spend the time he spends driving from barrack to barrack or doing chores at home also thinking about the next session. My main game's also got a GM with a wife, two kids and a pretty busy job - probably not as busy as your GM, though - and out of the four players all are employed and one's also married and has children. I'm not married myself, for the record, but I am employed and have had a pretty busy year and a half at work. The current GM's view on successfully running a game with a lot of other things going on in life has been that spending those moments when your hands are busy but your brain doesn't have much to do thinking about the game and planning ahead.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

It depends. They're still occupying a universe with consistent physics, and they're still driven universal goals related to survival, including resource management and social interactions / group dynamics. This requires them to be able to communicate, and whatever that communication is, if they're sapient enough to be relevant as characters, then that communication is language by definition.
Basically you are confusing culture with psychology. They are not the same thing.

>Only time I hear this is when people bring up it's as a thing
It was well-known enough that "Even numbered Trek movies don't suck" was used as a tagline in an old Sci-Fi channel promoting a marathon of II, IV, and VI, back when it was the Sci-Fi channel. I've got a clear memory of it, at least. This would've been before 2009.

You can also see it from the 2013 Las Vegas Star Trek convention (which, NB, obviously predates Beyond or Section 31).

https://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/12/diehard-star-trek-fans-rank-the-best-and-worst-movies

Note that the only odd-numbered Trek film to be in the top half is Search for Spock (which is in fact usually regarded as the best of the bad ones, with its only real sin being that it lies between the absolute giants that are II and IV); all the rest are in the bottom half.

I really don't know how else to demonstrate this to you; my dad was commenting on it back in the '90s when I was a kid.

>Massive walls were built around Zone A, and the other quarantined zones as well, so we are not sure why the enemy felt the need to break into them since they will also have to break out at some point. However, a few commanders got worried that they may be targeting the contaminated zones for a reason, so now many companies from several different regiments, mine included, are entering to take a look around (also there is a convoy carrying hot chocolate cutting through Zone A for some reason)

quick explanation from Spencer anon
i figured using the Assprilla character to explain why Spencer could use the tags since Analstasia said only high ranking slaanesh hosts could use it
i used the joke about the TSA being an inverse of the regular TSA where slaanesh forces get their requests inspected to make sure its heinous shit or worth gifting not that Assprilla is high ranking again
didnt mean to cause confusion just meant to be a quick character reference since last time she was mentioned she was forced to work under Diane who was also a human turned daemonette so i thought it fit that she approve something to disrupt someone in a similar situation
sorry for confusion to rest of thread

Christian, definitely. Not really sure how Judaic it is, since they weren't the ones that conflated the serpent in the garden with an adversary to the creator. The serpent was literally just a talking snake before medieval Christians got to it.

Listen anon, when creating a form of media, an important part of the design process is considering the target audience. While different audiences respond to and empathise with different experiences, they identify most with things they have had personal experience in. Gamers will, generally speaking, like films about games more than the average jock. Now tie this in with the fact that humans are one species, and despite our many offshoots we all share universal behavioural patterns, like the feeling of being a higher rank than another, and racial experiences, such as admiring a female butt, or the joy of parenthood. Such experiences are unique to each species, and so to stray too far from the human experience and into the unknown is to destroy your audience's ability to connect to the media piece.

This some planet of they hat type shit.

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.

I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.

Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies.

These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence.

This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.

Thanks for the thread, I told my usual ST about it but I'm also interested in maybe running it myself.

You have a lot of material to work with. Are you interested in running a vanilla Renegades game, the assumed default? A vanilla Devoted game? One of the Black Vans variant genres? Something else entirely?

What starting Standing/Threat Level were you considering?

Nice. I kind of wish they'd made it full tilt "build-a-monster" body horror, a bit like Nechronica. I know "symbiote" is supposed to let me build Eddie Brock but I'd rather it was telling you not so subtly to build Alex Mercer, y'know?

That's why I made an oWoD conversion of it.

I am afraid I do not see the issue. There is really nothing stopping you from flavoring your Mutant's abilities as grotesquely as possible and taking a high-Magnitude Conspicuous Appearance Scar. You could also take the Outsider Form if you want to be an actual alien.

The [PROTOTYPE] series is listed as one of the inspirations in Shallow Graves.

This is an affront to writing, cinema, and the natural order. The absolute bottom tier, below even whatever milking farm bestiality bullshit women read these days.

So.
I actually have no idea what the fuck is going on, I've only been half heartedly watching Shard and I think Nyanko and Argent have a breakdown over how damn awful it is.
The general gist of things seems to be that Mashu and Fujimaru need to retcon the game out of existence and make it so that the whole thing never happened. So like, Fujimaru goes back to being standard japanese salaryman or some shit, idk. He keeps Mashu tho, so at least there's that.

>The point I'm making is that there's an anon who unironically believes post-Root Maris would get strong cleaved to death by ORT and has been insisting that for the past couple days.
BASED and CORRECT. The ORIGIN of the universe wouldn't stand a CHANCE against a good CLEAVE.

The entire game was a simulation the whole time, made with the logic that if the simulation is good enough, it can be used to overwrite reality.

The whole plot was to destroy the universe and recreate it as earth, but with all the humans being P-Zombies that don't have inner thoughts. The plan was made by an autist who hated the idea of people not being exactly what they present themselves as
>>
>>97251545
Wow that's... worse than a retcon everything. It was all a dream indeed. Fuuuuck. You know after an ending like that, maybe it should end. Hell maybe it should have ended earlier.
