Thats a decent idea, i think heresy has a system like that, a core force org, then your added leaders or warlord add extra flexibility to army construction. Could be a good way to add some variance. I've always wanted a bike character to unlock more slots for bikes. Still doesn't help me with the immediate issue of balancing wargear, model, and unit costs, but I'll highly consider adding that in.

I've never actually looked into Battletech's tonnage system, but I'd assume it's similar to a points cost where the size of your mech is X tons, and each big gun you strap on to them is Y tons, up to a Z limit or something like that.

I've got 9 factions with 10 units plus 1 named character for each as a start. Each faction has 3 Leaders, 2 Troops, 2 Vanguard, 2 Mobile, and 2 Support units, and I've attempted to make sure that each faction from the start can at least do everything everyone else can.

Some Factions are much better at certain game aspects than others are; The super shooty army isn't the best in melee, but has units that can still hold their own. I tried to make sure that each faction leans into their own theme, but multiple playstyles can emerge from each faction based on what you like to play.

With leaders possibly offering different force org combinations, that opens up even more potential for army variance, but I still need a points system. I might just have to bite the bullet and figure out some arbitrary way to give costs to things. That'll bump up playtesting time a whole lot longer, for sure.

In my playtest games, I've had both players start with an equal number of bases for each side, and it's worked out decently well for a "half-sized" game, the armies are mostly equivalent in power at that size of game, but I don't think it'll fly for a hyper-elite army or horde army playstyle. If both players get 50 "bases" worth of models, the custodes player will overrun the genestealer cults player every time.

Tonnage is literally just how much the total unit weighs, and is completely worthless for balance because it only indicates what the target weight for that unit was when it was being designed, not whether it used that weight for anything practical or suitable for mech vs mech combat. Some designs are better suited to fight infantry or aircraft, and other designs are just bad both in and out of universe.

Part of a costing or force organization system that gets tricky is how accurate do you want it to be, how competitive do you want the game to be, how do you mitigate factors like terrain or asymmetrical mission types, is the balance supposed to be rough and players figure it out or built for randoms to be able to meet at a store and use a designated table?

I kind of envision some of their divisions as a mix between Syndicate/Progenitors and Null Mysteriis working on a more global scale. I think they could gel nicely with Network Zero and Null with the characters of Network Zero doing recon and interviewing the conscious monsters, Null Mysteriis doing more direct research and having Cherion commercialize the results in a serious way.
I don't know, I think there's potential in going that flavor than pure Pentex and mad science.

A Changeling doesn't always need a personal reason to do stuff. Kids dressing up as real horrific monsters instead of pretend ones might be a plan to gain the favour of Autumn by keeping real monsters in the mind of mortals.
Or the fae does it because it's funny to fuck with the Hunters, bonus points if it's ment as a reward but backfires completly.

A deranged autumn courtier might even have helped create the Slashers to get more candy by trick-or-treating.
Or to hold up their end of an arcane bargain with a higher power.

As for merchandising, that is a great idea. Money is a good motivator for Changelings and Hobgoblins. Creating masks and costumes from the mind altering substances of the Hedge could even have funny side effects like random transformations or bouts of insanity.

as soon as they start showing signs of magical aptitude, usually around 8 years old in the case of humans, though in families with a magical tradition it might start before in preparation for the actual manifestation of powers.
Besides those, only families with a high social status might induct their children into a mage order or hire a tutor to instruct them; commoner children that manifest powers usually won't be able to develop them unless their liege lord or some patron of high standing takes an interest to them. Those usually end up as hedge wizards at best and more usually as the village's cunning woman/man
Think that magic doesn't appear in awesome powers; no kid starts spontaneously casting fireball or prismatic ray or something of that kind, not even especially useful cantrips. They cast stuff like a handicapped version of mage hand or speak with animals but affecting only their pet, and just for a few seconds every month. It's easy to miss until they're much older if people aren't actively watching them in case they do have magic

- An exciting theme or narrative to contextualize why the little plastic men fight

The rules of the game need to be simple enough to use in play without becoming a burden. The more lookup tables you need to reference as part of every action, the worse the game plays. The more in-between steps that need to be resolved to handle something that only might happen in some fringe case every time you take that action, the worse the game plays.
Like, look at 40k. Attack, wound, armor, invulns... thats so many steps for a basic fucking attack that you need to roll over and over and over again. Its bloat and slows the game down to a crawl, especially since unless you have the tables memorized you are probably needing to reference the book for some of those outcomes.
You want resolution mechanics that do their job well with the minimum amount of bullshit getting in the way of it.

In addition, the mechanics need to applicable enough that their outcomes are not effective pre-determined. You do not want the game to be easily 'solved' where a given meta calcifies the game, and there also needs to be room for the players to do things that feel clever. They don't necessarily need to be actually be clever, nobody at the game table is Zhuge Liang, but part of the appeal of any strategy game is to come up with your own plan and see if it wins. If the logic of the game is too simple and straightforward, you remove elements of choice. For every strong strategy in the game, there needs to be a viable counter, and ideally that counter should be tactical rather than a unit-check. "I deployed Varmitguard Charnelcarriages, if only you had brought their natural predator the Spezzorgagiban Grenadiers you might have stood a chance" isn't strategy, its pay2win designed to force you to buy more models.
Instead, you should have things were unit placement trumps unit model in terms of importance. Let squads support each other for bonuses within a certain range, creating opportunities out of combinations that, if the enemy can disrupt them, denies you an advantage.

D&D "Druids" are a weird case.
A lot of their magic spells are the sort of thing you find in Celtic myth; transforming into animals and enchantments of various sorts being the most common, and these ARE powers that are credited to powerful Druids like Mog Roith, the taboos about not using metal aren't really, and Druids are in society known more for astonomy, keeping calendars for planting and harvest time, and performing blessings and curses, as well as being the ultimate source of legal codes.

In my honest opinion, "Druid" would be better off as a subclass of Cleric, thematically.

Also, what's with the exception for Scimitars?

I've found from the grapevine that Jes Goodwin is soon to retire from Games Workshop

He really is the king. His concept sketches and absolutely timeless work on mk7 Space Marines and the Eldar particularly are worthy of the highest praise.

His influence will be sorely missed, though with how miniatures are often 3+ years in the pipeline before being seen on shelves, his legacy will continue.

I think the Primaspect Warrior approach is too deeply embedded to go away by this point but at least GW seems to be slowly reintroducing/refreshing the pre-Primaris elements of the army, I wouldn't be surprised if we see new Tactical and Devastator squads in the near-ish future. If those get updated the range will have everything you need to make an old-style Marine army with entirely new/current units.

I'm really not looking forwards to the Rhino chassis vehicles being inevitably squatted though, they look miles better than their Primaris replacements.

The firstborn models are getting replaced, but I think they're going to be replaced with Primaris equivalents that will likely incorporate more of the old design elements than the initial few waves of Primaris releases did. 10th edition's Primaris releases have mostly been very heavily based on older models - the flamethrower guys from the starter box are the only ones following the usual Primaris formula off the top of my head, everything else is strongly based off of or is a direct refresh of older models. The recent Ultramarine releases especially are all basically direct updates of models from 4th/5th edition.

It is probably not too controversial to say that the art of modern rulebooks is made with female representation in mind.

These women are predominantly filling important roles, such as archmages, military officers, or nobles.
But how come there is barely any art that shows them in peril, or at a clear disadvantage? Regardless of their status.

Here’s a picture of my most recent Battle March game, my friend finally won with his Goblin Confederacy, I made a bit of a meme list and shoved a rune of immolation on my cannon bc he always goes straight for my artillery. Bloodbowl is god damned amazing fun. It's quick once you know the rules (90 mins most games), exciting and challenging. And I can't think of a valid competitor in the football aesthetic models. They are just fun to look at.

First, did you only print that one model? If yes, your leveling and everything with burn in layers is fine. If some stuff did not get printed, try the manual level app in the printer.
This looks like it could be the anti alias bug.

The motherboard has a problem with too many grey pixels in the same line, and moving from 9k to 16k enlarged the danger of that.

Ok bois, I need advice.
Good friend of mine's birthday is coming up.

He recently got a decent resin 3d printer and he's going nuts over it, printing 24/7, his girlfriend is starting to complain about the sudden appearance of resin minia of dubious taste in the house, etc.

I was thinking of maybe gifting him something "hobby related" but I am a total ignorant noob on 3d printing (all my minia comes from China recasters) so here it comes:

What the fuck can I give him as gift that it is 3d printing related?
Is UV curing station a trap?
Is there something fancy an aficionados would love?

An curing station is nice, but most often not that necessary. If you go that route, watch out for what size of printer your mate has, because the best thing is if you can just take the printed plate and put it directly into the cleaner, but some plates are larger than others.

I would maybe go with more resin. Maybe some interesting colors or those fancy engineering materials. There is one that cures almost like ceramics. Or some are like wax so you can cast it in metal afterwards. Maybe using those to make something for his girlfriend will mend the problems.
