>>97233610I can't wait to abuse pysics to skip over the water like a stone and reach escape velocity. We need to wait a bit for the travel, but we do have a surplrisingly good cast for ocean exploration. Not all of the monsters that live up there can fly, and gravity is still one of the biggest dangers of any game. We still need to level up a lot, because most of our people also can't fly.
After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session. Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away. And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.>4e books are ~10-15$ now. Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch. Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings? >4e thread I guess
>>97235255Look, I love 4e, and it is incredibly easy to run and play in 2025. But running it purely from physical copies is less than ideal. They don't include the errata, several useful books are unavailable, and the online compendiums have everything in one place for easy reference. It can be done, just make sure you use MM3 math for the enemies and have the errata handy. Buy what you can and print the remaining books, they are all available online for free. The generally recommended adventures are HS1 The Slaying Stone, Reavers of Harkenwold, Madness at Gardmore Abbey, and Thunderspire Labyrinth. For new to 4e players, I also generally recommend Prey for Smiley Bob.
>>97236233This is a fantastic suggestion, thank you I'm fine printing off a few adventures and some extra sheets and errata and stuff. >Im running this for some younger friends (I'm late 20's they're in college) and I plan to give the books away if the game takes off because they're broke kids and I prefer basic fantasy, 2e and 3.5 anyway. Also I just prefer to have the books to flip through in front of me.
>>97235698I've been using these retards since 2010, but I don't disagree that ose is good. However, I'm running a game for dudes that grew up on WoW, bg3 and RuneScape.

I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas. Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.

>>97236881Area: The Eastmarch (that is, the border region in the east)Family: House of AthalSeat of power: New Athaka (minor town, 3 associated fortified positions). Head of the house: margrave Boskas AthalOrigin: the eastmarch was conquered from the [insert enemy here] by the previous generation. The land was mostly settled by soldiers from that war. The margrave Boskas of Athal is a distinguished veteran of that war, known for having led a band of 250 men to keep the enemy from breaking through at [not Thermopylae] and thus granting time for the main army to circle the mountain and destroy the enemy forces. Those who volunteered that day and live are the minor knights (about 70) who settled the region as pioneers. For his service, margrave Athal was pledged ownership of the lands around the mountains. He now holds those lands against raiders and incursions by the previous owners. Economy: sheep, logging and limited mining. The mountains contain some iron, and the rivers that flow down the mountains allow for logging works and wool production alike to use river transport towards the nearby free city of [Whatever]. Military situation: the region is filled with veterans and their offspring. Few question the authority of the margrave. He has taken two fortresses, and built another at the site of [not Thermopylae] to round out the defense. While the fortresses and their garrisons are costly, the economy is somewhat bolstered by the newly forming cultivation of the land and trade with the nearby free city. Politics: the free city is split between excitement over the economic opportunities, and the fear of such a powerful military force on their doorstep. The original inhabitants are mostly glad to be freed of the previous owners, but have many gripes about ownership and rights as they used to be free tribes before the enemy rolled in. The margrave lacks funding, and hopes to secure it with either the crown or the free city.

>>97236672I'd say no because a magical hand weapon isn't allowed for parry to work, unless you have some special rule like Ensorcelled. Also you can't parry with a 2h weapon anyway.
>>97236900In previous (better) editions, the parry save was explicitly only afforded to a model if it was using a mundane hand weapon and a mundane shield. I say it's inconclusive because GW couldn't be bothered to specify.

>>97228517Recently I designed a new monster I'm calling a "Tangleberrie", its hard to tell from the art style but the intention is that it has a body made of vines. It's supposed to be relatively strong, but I haven't got stats or anything for it yet as of now, only finished the drawing yesterday, but I'm proud of it.

Any problems you have with Warhammer 40k/Games Workshop over the past few years, anon? Do you see it getting better or worse?
>>97228375>>97223560Agreed. I played 4th edition back in the day and had a lot of fun with it. Came back briefly during 8th edition after buying some Death Guard on a whim and have played a handful of games since. So many parts of the game that I enjoyed just don't exist anymore and everything seems to be at the whim of competitive gamers. I can't imagine being the kind of person that puts more stake into winning a game of toy soldiers than just having fun playing out battles and making pewpew noises when you roll dice to shoot. It's just not appealing to me in the same way anymore. The current 40k aesthetic is boring and cartoonish, but not cartoonish in the bombastic grimdark sense that I enjoyed. Most of the new sculpts are hideous and I don't ever want named dudes in my armies because then they cease to be /mydudes/. I never cared too much for the lore and haven't kept up with any of the newer developments. I've only read 4 40k novels and a handful of WHFB books over the last 20 years. If I were to interact with the 40k side of the hobby any more, it would be through Kill Team or some sort of Inquisimunda type thing. Narrative skirmishes and/or RPGs. I did play in a NuCromunda campaign a few years ago and had fun with it, but GW really goes out of their way to spread the rules for what should be a simple game across hundreds of dollars worth of books.
>>97236920Games Workshop focusing on the "lore" is why 40k sucks as much as it sucks right now.
I'm a lore casual, I mostly just play the game. When did the lore "get bad" and what was the straw that broke the camels back?
