On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.
>>97240164In my settings, all Oxygen breathing life forms are related, having been seeded by an Overgod figure. She also left behind spiritual organisms as well, which would evolve into Gods. Based upon whatever pattern they take, life begins to evolve destined to one day reach that pattern during ages of Sapience. So all the worlds with life + oxygen atmospheres share a great deal in common. Several races are bipedal and humanoid, with limbs, eyes and mouths where you would expect them to be on a human. Their DNA would line up with life on Earth. There are monstrous races as well, but you can see parallels with Earth life in their design, however gruesome or cool that might be.Being able to fuck an alien is an integral part of science fiction, from its very beginnings. It has always been with us, and it always will. A setting should always have at least one alien race that is sexually desirable. Sci-fi that deliberately tries to completely exclude fuckability is poor, tryhard, no-fun-allowed, and reminds me of the Virgin vs. Chad meme, where the Chad is having a blast creating hot aliens, and the Virgin is researching Tardigrades and Stygiomedusa.
>>97240355came here to post this.
>>97256343Very cool designs from what I have seen
Despite being kind of a shitpost with the rape stuff, Three Worlds Collide has a pretty interesting take where the physical attributes are alien, but the mentalities are sort of an uncanny valley in-between human and alien. The Babyeaters are giant insect-like crystals. They're slightly less advanced than humanity, but they're capable of space travel and literature. They're highly intelligent, have an honor-based culture, and have achieved world peace. They also eat their own children, as the name suggests. The Babyeaters give birth to extremely large litters, so they let only the strongest survive while eating the rest to conserve resources. As they became more intelligent, instinct transformed into culture - eating your own children became a moral duty and the greatest thing you could possibly do. The children are fully conscious and very much don't want to be eaten - in fact, they're digested alive for about a month until they finally die. And the Babyeaters do love their children, it's just that it's not as important as their duty to society. They also have an interesting concept of forgiveness, based on the scientific method - a mistake based on insufficient data can be forgiven, but a deliberately different interpretation of the same data absolutely can't.On the other end of the spectrum is the Superhappies, an extremely advanced race of highly luminescent blobs. If the Babyeaters are the chimps of the universe, the Superhappies are the bonobos - they're obsessed with pleasure, to the point where they literally communicate with sex. They also exchange emotions and memories doing this, creating a pseudo-hivemind, and are horrified when they learn that humans don't. They also don't have a concept of deception. When they learn about the Babyeaters, they're so traumatized that a specialist group of Superhappies that lack emotions, the Kiritsugus (yes, like the Fate character - I told you it was a shitpost), have to take over for a while.

Dubs and above turn into canon.
The setting is undergoing a Protestant Reformation in the south. The colder parts of the League are gravitating towards hardcore reformed denominations with predestination and strict communal hierarchies. The warmer parts either like the Church or just want to stop its political dominance, similar to England during the reign of Henry the VIII. The Papal State wants to maintain its dominance and plays up the threat of the Caliphate that is looking more and more like a paper tiger. >>97262323>2323Huh. Weird.
>>97263235>>97263338All of this started over religious disputes, both sides seeing the other as heretics whose interpretation of the Quran is flawed.

Elves turn into Ghosts, Wraiths and all sorts of different phantoms. The undeath curse reacts their fay blood, giving them ephemeral qualities, ability to float, pass through matter and disappear from sight. These undead elves are only somewhat intelligent and even more temperamental when they were in life, spending their un-life haunting the living, either out of wrath, hunger or for their own twisted version of amusement.
The South and Far East are home to a pestilent, entropy-worshipping renunciation cult that seeks help people escape the omni-present suffering that pervades the cycle of death & rebirth by magically lobotomizing them into functional but non-sapient and ego-less p-zombies. Their souls go on to join the "voidness", never seen again, even as ghostly whispers.

The concept of copying spells is rendered a bit underwhelming by the fact that every spell you could scribe is one you could have picked at level up.Imagine if you only ever catch pokémon that were starters or that you chose from after beating each Gym.If you want there to be rare or forgotten spells to discover, something I think is a fantasy arising from the mechanics, the DM needs to put in all of the work.

Im out of my depth hereTL;DR Im trying to learn how to run a setting I have no experience with. Looking for setting influence. -I would like some help with this concept, post apocalyptic science fantasy. The idea that the world was propelled forward by magic tremendously, but then cataclysmic events reset civilization, and now were living in the post era. Im used to running Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Lancer, but this new group has requested me to run fantasy for them. I agreed, but I told them I wanted to draw from influences that im familiar with, the closest comparison I can think of is the Televison Show Adventure Time where there was technology and then a fall, and now we have magic and some science tech. Disparate cities and no main governing body. -So, im looking to add to my influence, are there any pre existing settings ? Are there any fun things you've ever wanted to do along these lines ?Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97260477What game?
>>97260477The best Science Fantasy author of all time is Roger Zelazny. You can go w/ the first 5 of Amber Chronicles if you wanna do "alternate dimensions bring technology out of place." But he's got plenty of standalone novels that do similar things, too. Personally, I like Changeling and Madwand because they'd make a great campaign to wholesale rip off.
>>97263056different anon here, just don't try using the existing Amber RPG system. It is... fucking bizarre. It's diceless, chargen is done by bidding for stats, and the whole thing is exceedingly clunky and punishes not knowing exactly how to milk the system (and punishes not knowing what other players want in advance) far too heavily. It's a fascinating read but a bad system, if you know the type of game.
Honest to god I was expecting more cynicism toward Post Apocalyptic Science Fantasy for being too polluted. But its pretty kick ass how many of you have come forth with such helpful stuff, im really grateful fellas. Thank you.

What name did you give to your Alchemical? What Caste are they? Why are they called that?
>>97262482>>97262566What I mean is that we're perfectly accustomed to Exalted being able to no-sell guns, and even having some heroic mortals managing bullet dodging by the skin of their teeth. There may always be people weird about guns, but the game is never going to support guns being an equalizer between Exalted and mortals. The guns that are impressive to Exalted are the kind of Artifact guns and blasters in Shards of the Exalted Dream, and they're only deadly because one of the Chosen, a god, etc. is committing motes to them.
>>97262921I hope I don't come across as disagreeing. I'm just adding my thoughts that guns as they are IRL would take a lot away from the setting, but guns as they are in fantasy and westerns would be pretty okay by me. It's a hard thing to define.Revolvers? Okay.Machine Gun/Tommy Gun? Nope.Laser Gun? Sure, for Alchemicals.Gatling Gun? Nope.Mortars? Nope.Missiles? Nope.Long range laser canons? Sure.Sniper Rifle? Nope.Firestick that shoots super far? Sure, with charms.I don't know, I sure as heck wouldn't think of Creation as being bronze age. I'm not even sure what that means in the context of a fantasy setting with magic that's so prevalent.
>>97262998>I don't know, I sure as heck wouldn't think of Creation as being bronze age. Most of civilized Creation isn't in the Bronze age technologically. Sure there's probably some places where civilization collapsed, but most of the societies we see have probably pulled themselves into the Iron Age with weird gonzo leaps in strange places. Bronze Age is more of an aesthetic painted on.And for missiles, they had Thousand Forged Dragons for a rough equivalent.

>>97260787>i suggest you to preheat your resin in a bath of hot waterThat might help with initial build plate adhesion, but when the print gets to the bit that failed there the vat will have been back to room temperature for a good while already.
>>97260828i just have to assume it has to do with reflow of resin because of how the print failed but yeah if its temp probably cant be fixed by pre heating, only other thing that comes to mind for me is if the anon had to add more resin mid print and thats kinda where the failure happened, not enough resin to reflow for a couple of layers, some layers printed half way yadda yadda
>>97250366 Might have been the cold temperature impacting the bed. Putting a lid on the enclosure seems to have fixed it.
>>97257900 Damn, I've always side eyed the tank cleaning feature. I run older printers that have an LED test, which I figure later models just relabel. Anyway, I've always put my resin back in the bottle with a strainer to catch possible loose bits floating around, then lay my vat on folded paper towels for a little bit of give but still have the firm backing of the silicon mat and the hard backing of the table. From there, I level the scraper so it's flush and remove any stuck bits. I should note that I use a plastic scraper and the corners are rounded so they reduce the chance of stabbing into the FEP.I use a paper towel to wipe any uncured resin, expose that to UV light, and throw it away. The vat gets a quick IPA wipe down from there.

>>97263089>>97263044>>97262467as per the 3.5e FAQ:What exactly does the second effect of protection from evil do, anyway?[...] The key phrase that defines this particular effect of the spell is as follows: “ . . . the barrier blocks any attempt to . . . exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment (charm) effects and enchantment (compulsion) effects that grant the caster ongoing control over the subject . . .).”[...]The first part of this phrase describes the basic criteria by which the DM should judge protection from evil’s effect: If the incoming effect attempts to exercise mental control over the creature, protection from evil likely suppresses that effect. The parenthetical portion of the phrase provides two specific examples (pointed, obviously, at rules elements of the Player’s Handbook) to help judge what exactly is meant by that:1. Enchantment (charm) effects. Simple enough--protection from evil automatically suppresses any enchantment (charm) effect, such as charm person or enthrall.2. Enchantment (compulsion) effects that grant the caster ongoing control over the subject. This is where adjudication gets trickier, because you have to decide what “ongoing control” means. The Sage recommends a broad definition, which includes any non-instantaneous effect that prevents the target from exercising full control over its own actions.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97263308Personally, I would rule more narrowly than what the Sage advises. As a DM I draw a strong line between the spell granting the caster control of the player, and the spell itself controlling the player. A target rendered confused, as the spell, isn't more susceptible to the requests of the caster, unlike a charm target. Otherwise, Protection From Evil renders the target near-impervious to almost anything mind-affecting, which is too much for a 1st-level spell.
