>>97214289It depends on your top end. If your top end puts bullets in Hudie then HPD otherwise Ice Wall being a pseudo floodgate stops Hudiefags from playing their game and stopping Hudie from playing their game is a moral imperative for all moral humans no matter the method.
>>97214373Fine, this is what I played using just 2 of the Starter.
>>97212596You play it, K, and matador as splashes in other decks. Like you said, the engine doesn't actually work the way you think it should. You can play it in like, Mervanubis. Matador protects against board wipes, that's the main thing.
I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. >>97213058>I really like the consequences ACKS assigns to failing to pay, even though it apparently goes kinda hog wild with the expenditures.Agreed, it doesn't demand you pay it. It's just you'll be less respected and reputable if you don't.And you know the interesting thing? I can easily see players actually leveraging it to their benefits if they thought about it.Imagine pulling the classic Robin Hood 'Turn up at an archery competition wearing nothing but burlap only to dominate the shit out of everyone for the prize' just through your own cunning rather than DM fiat.
>>97214732haven't really played 5e for years, I play savge worlds with my main group. >Surprise segments with a duration that is affected by dexterity and armour/encumbrance, action declarations, charging, spell interruptions, initiative after the charge being dictated by weapon length rather than initiative roll, morale checks, fighters with multiple attacks per round (from the 7th level onward) always attacking before initiative is even rolled, grappling and overbearing, and so on?guess not, I'll check with my the AD&D GM about that but I don't think many of these are in BX correct? aside from moral and surprise anyway I ask because while I like the ideas presented by the OSR about exploration, resource management and player skill & freedom. My main highlight in any game is a good tactical combat which I guess I like in savage worlds.

How do we fix Steampunk?
>>97196423>How do we fix Steampunk?Play it straight. The genre's pool of published works is about 85% "subversions" with "plucky foid/groid protagonists fighting against The Oppressive System" which is why it dissolved into Tumblr Soup so quickly. You actually need at least one of the major colonial powers to be the unironic good guys totally justified in bringing Progress and Science and Basic Hygiene to the fuzzy-wuzzies. In an American setting this is incredibly easy to do by keeping the injuns the howling savages they were IRL and adding some neat alt-tech. In a British setting this is also incredibly easy to do by channeling your modern 21st century rage at the Pajeet Menace back at their ancestors and have Queen Victoria chastising her administrators for not suppressing them more effectively, or by looking at the fall of Rhodesia and South Africa to understand what those colonists were up against.
>>97200644wtf it was?pre WWI Europe meets Chinese Warlords cross-over?
>>97211225>Aneurysm: Of Steamworks And Magick Obscura
>>97206086Ah but you can't do that either, because unless you turned them into societies of super-geniuses living in steampunk Wakandas and all the white cultures were backwards shitholes(afterall, without all the wealth and knowledge and people and heckin genius we STOLE from the poor wholesome chungus natives, we'd be NOTHING) the same people who'd shit on you for depicting colonialism would also throw a hissy about you depicting primitive people as, well, primitive. And even if you did the Native Wakanda vs Dimwit Luddite YTs, you better have at least 70% nignogs(and a token Amerindian) on your company's staff because otherwise you'll be "appropriating the culture of the oppressed" or whatever. My point is there's no way to win, not until we go back to simply rejecting the premise that depiction and endorsement are synonymous, and also the premise that people of one culture aren't "allowed" to depict, draw from, or make comment upon another.
We had a perfect Steampunk universe once, with slight elements of Aetherpunk and "Tech vs. Wilds" concepts, but PP ruined it.
