>>97201870It was a lot more than a minor story change to give more prevalence to one guy and changing Uro's character into a hot woman. Basically the entire campaign's premise and all the central aspects of the setting were completely rewritten, with only the PCs and popular snapshots of the campaign (Uro killing the GM's GMPC waifu, Nasu beating Uro through fiat logic the whole table agreed with) remaining.IIRC you can still find a translation of the Red Dragon campaign online and it's pretty much universally agreed that the campaign was a fun romp, but the rewrite into Chaos Dragon sucked so much ass nobody knows how it got greenlit at all.
>>97197459Anon, Lodoss' staying power is purely based on its aesthetics and the cute elf girls. Even back in the day nobody pretended in was a well-written show. It's purely oldfag nostalgia to pretend it's a good show in all aspects just to be elitists, with Ergo Proxy being its sci-fi counterpart.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:>n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0>Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128>Need a starter dungeon? >>97206024As a few things when I make a setting and region. I make sure to have at least 4 major cities/hubs with something you can only get there. From a Blacksmith who can make high-tier gear, a enchanter, etc. Maybe even make one of them a small town and it's known cause of them or something. So going there the only thing you can do is that.2nd when you make dungeons, BBEGs, and other major hooks I make it something that can go on without them. So if they don't take care of a goblin camp in a cave. It become a big problem for the region and where you had maybe at most 2 dozen goblins to deal with. Now it's over a 100 and have casters and they know how to fight and defend.Push downtime activities, especially for stuff at the end or beginning of a session. Maybe someone making a new weapon, crafting some potions or scrolls, training, etc. When they get back let them find out how well they did and all. So you have a reason for time to pass in the setting.Don't let players be the center of the world and let the world turn on it's own. Let things happen and be talked about that isn't about the PCs or their quests and all. You think it might be pointless but make the world feel a bit more lived in and real. Especially at lower levels.
>>97216989>So if they don't take care of a goblin camp in a cave. It become a big problem for the region and where you had maybe at most 2 dozen goblins to deal with. Now it's over a 100 and have casters and they know how to fight and defend. Thanks for sharing. It's definitely more of a "force players to do shit" style of campaign than is my style, but it can definitely be loads of fun both to run and to play in.Also not a fan of magic shoppes, but once you have rules for magical research, magic item crafting, and for the demographics of high-level NPCs in place, it can be hard to justify the fact that they DON'T exist in a natural way.
>>97217193Well the idea is you have limits on what you can do. So the players have choose what they should do first or what should the not bother with. If it's feels like their only one thing to do it might get bland, however if you have to choose on taking out a goblin nest, or bandit camp. The other problem might get bigger later or might get away and you might need to hunt for them harder than when you knew the area they're currently holed up at.Also, the special shops don't have to be shops but more of this guy can help you make a +2 magic sword. Or a old wizard that skilled in a magic you want to learn that might teach you. Stuff like that, maybe they make you hunt for items or prove you worth teaching. However at the end of the day. Think of games like Skyrim, BOTW/TOTK, etc. Don't make it one or two paths. Just leave hook everywhere and when the players grab one start focusing on that. Maybe have one or two going on in the background so when they do pick that it's not the same level 1 bandit camp and all.
Currently reading the OSRIC 3 player's guide and the Monk looks like a completely mess until you realize it's completely fixed by returning the Monk minimum score requirements to STR 15, DEX 15, WIS 15 and CON 11.Not bad Finch. Not bad.
>>97217234Shouldn't have to "fix" anything. I want OSRIC to be an AD&D retroclone, not interested in Matt's House Rules or having to go through the rulebook looking for what I need to undo to actually play AD&D. Those changes are a deal breaker for me.

I figured shell shocked slack jaw defectors would be strapped for cash. But Im talking about posting on mobile. It gives a catchy not required and then fails to post stating that captcha was filled incorrectly.
>>97215931>But Im talking about posting on mobile. Then it depends on which mobile app you're using. It needs to be updated to properly load the new captcha. Update your app. You do understand that it works on a "one of these things is not like the other" basis, and that you have to wait for the cooldown timer to hit 0 and show "Done", right?
Is there any kind of random NPC generator for Rifts?
This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want. This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.
>>97215773Nimow this is what im talking about. Ive already got an idea for this.>long hallway with a 4 way intersection.>path ahead has illusionary wall slam down making them think its blocked>peppers ghost boulder appears down the left hallway>right hallway the party is being funneled into has a pit trap directly next to it

>>97216067>class-specific XP awardsThat's an optional rule, fishfag. I'm asking about the OFFICIAL rules: Are they good or bad? It's hilarious how you're trying to hijack /osrg/ purportedly to discuss AD&D 2e and then you refuse to discuss it.
>>97215565The Item compendiums are such a weird relic of a different time. They wouldn't just list the item, they'd also say which adventure they came from, for what I can only assume is so that a DM who wanted to implement a particular item could purchase that adventure and have their players stumble upon it, because the idea of just dropping an item into a campaign would be too much of a stretch of the imagination.
